The Purple Rose of Cairo
UPC 811956-020321 | United States 1985 | 82 minutes | Twilight Time

Depressed during the Depression, a downtrodden housewife/waitress (Mia Farrow) finds her world turned upside down when her favorite movie star (Jeff Daniels) literally steps down from the screen with decidedly romantic intentions. Writer-director Woody Allen's The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) is a touching tragi-comedy about the dangers of confusing dreams with reality, gorgeously rendered by the great cinematographer Gordon Willis.

Shot by the great Stanley Kubrick collaborator, cinematographer John Alcott, and highlighted by one of nonpareil composer Jerry Goldsmith's greatest scores, the film also features thrilling supporting performances from Ed Harris (as an amoral mercenary) and Jean-Louis Trintignant (as a charming if deadly spy).

Nashville

This cornerstone of 1970s American moviemaking from Robert Altman is a panoramic view of the country's political and cultural landscapes, set in the nation's music capital, Nashville weaves the stories of twenty-four characters—from country star to wannabe to reporter to waitress—into a cinematic tapestry that is equal parts comedy, tragedy, and musical. Many members of the astonishing cast wrote their own songs and performed them live on location, which lends another layer to the film's quirky authenticity. Altman's ability to get to the heart of American life via its eccentric byways was never put to better use than in this grand, rollicking triumph, which barrels forward to an unforgettable conclusion.

Virus
UPC 3-259190-268791 | United States 1999 | 95 minutes | Universal Pictures

Jamie Lee Curtis, William Baldwin and Donald Sutherland star in this all action sci-fi thriller. The special effects are awesome as the crew of a haggard tug take on an alien life form. This life form holds the ship hostage, feeds on electricity and thrives on developing new ways of killing the "virus" known as man.

Squadra Antiscippo
UPC 8-032807-014821 | Italy 1976 | 95 minutes | Raro Video

Almost Human
UPC 5-060162-234007 | Italy 1974 | 95 minutes | Shameless Screen Entertainment

Maestro of mayhem Umberto Lenzi (Cannibal Ferox, Oasis of Fear) takes you on a tour of Italy's mean streets with this hyper-violent, ultra-sleazy, 1970's crime classic. Shameless Screen Entertainment proudly presents Almost Human restored and uncut.

Tomas Milan (Designated Victim) stars as Giulio Sacchi, an unhinged petty crook who aspires to criminal greatness. With his gang of assorted weirdoes in tow Sacchi shanghais the pretty young daughter of a wealthy businessman, but hardboiled cop Grandi (Henry Silva - Escape From the Bronx) is in hot pursuit. The dogged detective is all that stands between the gang and the ransom but he'll need to be quick because his dastardly foe may not be able to resist the nubile body of his teenage hostage!

Almost Human is a fast paced Lenzi crime thriller that features music from Ennio Morricone and a level of sleaziness that's atypical for the genre. If you like your cops badass and your villains badder, this is a high octane, edge-of-the-seat experience you will not want to miss!

The Expendables 3
UPC 5-055761-903508 | United States 2014 | 131 minutes | Lions Gate Home Entertainment

In The Expendables 3, Barney faces off with an old enemy and must fight old blood with new blood, bringing in a new era of Expendables who are younger and faster. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.

I'm All Right Jack
UPC 5-055201-828385 | United Kingdom 1959 | 105 minutes | StudioCanal

Winning BAFTAs for Best British Screenplay and Best British Actor (PETER SELLERS), I'M ALL RIGHT JACK is popularly considered to be the best of John and Roy Boulting's social satires.

Sellers plays both Sir John Kennaway and the tragic-comic trade union leader Fred Kite. The result is laugh-out-loud comedy with a satiric edge, lampooning the then-burning issue of industrial relations. Bertram Tracepurcel (DENNIS PRICE) plans to make a fortune from a missile contract, a scheme that involves manipulating his innocent nephew Stanley Windrush (IAN CARMICHAEL) into acting as the catalyst in an escalating labour dispute, from which the socialist Mr. Kite is only too keen to make capital.

Featuring a superb supporting cast including TERRY-THOMAS, RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH, JOHN LE MESURIER, IRENE HANDL and MARGARET RUTHERFORD, this is an ingenious comedy about the British workplace and self-serving hypocrisy. A sequel to 1956's A Private's Progress, the film is bought roaringly to life by Sellers' astonishing turn as the Stalinist unionist.

Cheaper by the Dozen
UPC 5-039036-030953 | United States 1950 | 82 minutes | 20th Century Fox

In this touching yet hilarious comedy, CLIFTON WEBB stars as Frank Bunker Gilbreth, a turn-of-the-century efficiency expert who tries to apply his exacting work standards to raising his children - all 12 of them! Based on the bestseller by children of the real Mr. Gilbreth, this charming film co-stars Myrna Loy as Gilbreth's patient wife Lillian. Narrated by the Gilbreth's oldest daughter Ann (JEANNE CRAIN), CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN is an entertaining, charming film that follows this unique family throughout their life together.

The Stolen Assignment
UPC 5-027626-423940 | United Kingdom 1955 | 60 minutes | Network, StudioCanal

Directed by future Hammer stalwart Terence Fisher, this entertaining, light-hearted crime thriller centres around the adventures of sleuthing reporters Mike Billings (John Bentley) and Jenny Drew (Hy Hazell) as they try to unravel the alibi of a suspected murderer... Stolen Assignment is presented here in a brand-new transfer from the original film elements in its as-exhibited theatrical aspect ratio.

Henry Crossley is an artist whose wife is spending a week's holiday with her aunt. But when her aunt comes to see him, worried because her niece has not arrived, a police investigation into her disappearance begins. It seems that Henry was fully occupied at the time his wife went missing; but is his alibi completely truthful?

The Long Goodbye
UPC 5-027035-010717 | United States 1973 | 112 minutes | Arrow Academy, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM)

When private eye Philip Marlowe (Elliott Gould) is visited by an old friend, this sets in train a series of events in which he’s hired to search for a missing novelist (Sterling Hayden) and finds himself on the wrong side of vicious gangsters.

So far so faithful to Raymond Chandler, but Robert Altman’s inspired adaptation of the writer’s most personal novel takes his legendary detective and relocates him to the selfish, hedonistic culture of 1970s Hollywood, where he finds that his old-fashioned notions of honour and loyalty carry little weight, and even his smoking (universal in film noir) is now frowned upon.

Widely misunderstood at the time, The Long Goodbye is now regarded as one of Altman’s best films and one of the outstanding American films of its era, with Gould’s shambling, cat-obsessed Marlowe ranking alongside more outwardly faithful interpretations by Humphrey Bogart and Robert Mitchum.

LaGuerta, Dexter's estranged sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) tries to cope with her guilt in her brother's crimes, while an emotionally vulnerable Dexter comes face-to-face with a psychopathologist who knows the code that has motivated his every murder. Filled with the dark twists and revelations that Dexter fans relish, season eight finishes Dexter's twisted journey with a bloody amazing send-off that will haunt fans forever.

Batman: The Complete Series

Feb 21st - €39.00 @ Amazon.de (paid partially via gift certificate)

Out of This World: Season 1 & 2

Feb 21st - €4.99 @ Amazon.de (paid partially via gift certificate)

The last one was a dud. About half of the episodes are missing because of missing music rights. And the intro was changed for the same reason.
