Criminal Minds: Season 8 Evil is a State of Mind. The thoughtful drama stars Matthew Gray Gubler as Dr. Spencer Reid, Shemar Moore as Derek Morgan, A.J. Cook as Jennifer 'JJ' Jareau, Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia, Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss, Thomas Gibson as Aaron 'Hotch' Hotchner and at various times, Lola Glaudini as Elle Greenaway, Mandy Patinkin as Jason Gideon, and Joe Mantegna as David Rossi. CRIMINAL MINDS follows the men and women of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), an elite team of FBI profilers who get inside the heads of hardened criminals to discover what makes them tick. Also, Reid's phone calls to a mystery woman have the team intrigued. Guest star: Anne Dudek TV.Com Episode Info 3.0 Okay episode .. nothing exciting or unnerving.  Oh .. and we Oregonians are not really like this <G> 168 - Criminal Minds - S08E06 - The Apprenticeship The BAU travels to Santa Monica when burned bodies of homeless people begin showing up by the famous pier. Also, Rossi reconnects with his Marine Corps sergeant from Vietnam. Guest star: Meshach Taylor TV.Com Episode Info 3.0 Interesting but not great.  I do like the ending 170 - Criminal Minds - S08E08 - The Wheels on the Bus The BAU team goes in pursuit of a missing school bus full of high school children outside the Washington, D.C. area, and it becomes a race against time for them to bring them home safely. Recurring character: Nicholas Brendon as Kevin Lynch Guest stars: David Gallagher, Andrew James Allen, Brittany Curran and Devon Werkheiser TV.Com Episode Info 3.0 Another Ok one.  Think maybe they have hit a wall. 171 - Criminal Minds - S08E09 - Magnificent Light When a recent attendee at a popular motivational speaker’s conference in Seattle is murdered, the BAU looks at the speaker as the main suspect, but they have to refocus their investigation when the speaker himself goes missing. Also, Garcia is puzzled when Morgan declines to attend a dinner honoring an old family friend. Guest star: Raphael Sbarge TV.Com Episode Info 3.5 This one is better than the last couple.  Don't know where they come up with these mental deseases .. must be made up.

Movies Being Watched --

Butterfly Pia Zadora makes a stunning debut in this hot-blooded thriller of murder and revenge. Pouty and irresistible, she plays the part of naughty Kady, who makes a surprise visit to her long-lost father, Jess (Stacy Keach), by dropping in at the deserted silver mine he is caretaking. Provocative and lustful, she teases him until both give way to temptation. Together in sin, Kady and Jess dream of wealth as they mine for silver, but vultures with dreams of their own lurk in the background, watching their every move. Wikipedia Film Info 3.5 Staring     Thoughts: First, I don't think that Pia Zadora is that much worse an acress than a lot of those that we have now.  With the PR machines we have now many would have considered her a diva .. That being said ... this isn't a very good film.  I think it could have been much better with some script tweaking and probably better direction.  The basic premise isn't bad ..

Triangle From horror writer and director Christopher Smith (Severance and Creep) comes a unique concept psychological thriller that turns the genre on it's head. When Jess (Melissa George, "Grey's Anatomy") sets sail on a yacht with a group of friends, she cannot shake the feeling that there is something wrong. Her suspicions are realized when the yacht hits a storm in the Bermuda Triangle and the group is forced to board a passing ocean liner to get to safety. The ship appears deserted, but Jess is convinced she’s been on board before. They soon realize they are not alone. Someone is intent on hunting them down, one by one. Wikipedia Film Info 3.5 Staring Melissa George Liam Hemsworth Rachael Carpani Thoughts: First, I am not a horror fan .. I got over that as a kid.  Not that i mind having the bejesus scared out of me but just not really my cup of tea now. Having said that .. i really like this movie.  It isn't a hacker/slasher film.  It takes watching to see what is going on.  The Mobious Strip effect is well done .. always trying to figure out how she/they will get out of it. Melissa George did a very good job in this one.  Bravo.

	Source Code Jake Gyllenhaal stars in this mind-bending action thriller about an experimental government program used to prevent a deadly terrorist attack in downtown Chicago. Wikipedia Film Info 4.0 Staring Jake Gyllenhaal Michelle Monaghan Vera Farmiga Jeffrey Wright Russell Peters as Max Denoff Cas Anvar Michael Arden Scott Bakula Frédérick De Grandpré Thoughts: I really like this one.  Of course Jake Gyllenhaal was brilliant.  From the first time I saw him in October Sky and then in Donnie Darko i have really been impress with his work.  And Michelle Monagham was very good as the girl on the train and Vera Farmiga was like wise as good. Tight script and lots of twists to make it enjoyable.  The ending was also a good twist.
	The Nightmare Before Christmas Enter an extraordinary world filled with magic and wonder -- where every holiday has its own special land ... and imaginative, one-of-a-kind characters!  The Nightmare Before Christmas tells the heartfelt tale of Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town and all things that go bump in the night.  Bored with the same old tricks and treats, he yearns for something more and soon stumbles upon the glorious magic of Christmas Town!  Jack decided to bring this joyful holiday back to Halloween Town.  But as his dream to fill Santa's shoes unravels, it's up to Sally, the rag doll who loves him, to stitch things back together. Wikipedia Film Info 4.5 Staring Danny Elfman Chris Sarandon Catherine O'Hara William Hickey Glenn Shadix Ken Page Thoughts: This receives the highest score i really give a film (don't think i have ever given a 5.0 .. and only a few 4.5).  It is not often that a film comes out that includes such extraordinary imagination and creativity. All cylinders fire in this one for producer Tim Burton and director (and often overlooked) Henry Selick. The score was written by Danny Elfman who, like Tim Burton, when ON is really magical.  Whether as part of Oingo Boingo or as a film composer.  With credits like Batman or Pee Wee's Great Adventure you can't go wrong.  For a GREAT sampling of his film work try the cd Music from a Darkened Theater.  This is a 1990 release so there is a lot of newer stuff to be heard also. Finally we come to the cast ... There is not a let-down anywhere in the casting (or script or .. ) of this film.  Although Jack Skellington is spoken by Chris Sarandon (yes Prince Humperdinck of the classic The Princess Bride) he is very good in the role.  But of course Danny Elfman takes command of the role when the singing goes on. Catherine O'Hara, though it was a surprise to me that it was her, is brilliant as Sally.  And Oogie Boogie is simply brilliant played by Ken Page. Oh my .. how much could i rave about this one.  It isn't for the very young but should be fine for 'stable' kids 8-10 and over.  Especially us older kids ... like me.

Wikipedia Film Info 4.5 Staring the voices of Peter Robbins Chris Shea Tracy Stratford Kathy Steinberg Chris Doran Geoffrey Ornstein Karen Mendelson Sally Dryer Ann Altieri Bill Melendez Thoughts: What can be said about this .. if you have seen it you know the wonder of all the beloved characters created by Charles Schultz.  Week after week, waiting for the Sunday Funny Papers to see what was going to happen with Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Snoopy and Woodstock along with the rest of the crew. Add to that the wonderful music of jazz musician Vince Guaraldi and the Vince Guaraldi Trio brings just the perfect combination of characters and atmosphere.  I was lucky to be brought up in a home with lots of various forms of music being played .. classical, blues, swing, jazz and pop ... but for many this was probably the first instance of listening to jazz.  Probably brought a lot of people to it. This 1965 special was followed by 2 other specials (well more actually but only 2 really worth watching).  1966's "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", 1973's "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving".  Also worth noting is 1973's "Happy New Year, Charlie Brown!", though by this time it was more just making money by CBS than anything else. Again, like "A Nightmare Before Christmas" above, this one gets a 4.5 for it's originality and creativity .. WARNING!! If you are anything like me and along with loving great things like "A Charlie Brown Christmas" I also like to see rips on things i think sacred (must be from too much Frank Zappa) .. and so in that vain .. try a search of the NET for "A Charlie Brown Kwanzaa".  It is off the wall and now a days thought to be totally racist .. but it is pretty funny if you are old enough to remember days and people like this. But you have been forewarned.
	A Flintstones Christmas Carol There’s just one shopping day until Christmas!  Fred is so wrapped up in his acting debut as Scrooge in the Bedrock production of A Christmas Carol that he’s completely forgotten to buy any gifts.  And worse, he’s left baby Pebbles stranded at Cave Care Center!  But wife Wilma and a few familiar ghosts perform a true Christmas miracle, helping hubby Fred remember the true meaning of the season.  Join Barney, Betty, Bamm-Bamm and Dino in this hilarious, stone-age version of the magical holiday classic. Ward Russi Taylor Don Messick John Stephenson Howard Morris Will Ryan Marsha Clark Joan Gerber Thoughts: I have not seen this for a long time .. and I have to say this is not one of my favorite Flintstones bits.  It is a fun rendition of A Christmas Carol and in it not only Scrooge learns a lesson but Fred does too. That being said, in the entire series of the cartoon, Wilma is a bedrock (no pun intended) of the family .. long suffering of Fred's antics.  But here she is simply portrayed as a bitch.  Not the character i remember. Other than that this is a fairly good bit and I am sure that kids will enjoy it.  I know my 2.5 year old grandson seemed to be enjoying it.

I also enjoyed both Source Code and Triangle. With Triangle the only thing that annoyed me a little were the budget restrictions when it came to the effects but I dug it all the same.

I believe Tom and Jon also enjoyed Triangle, besides me. I thought it was well thought out and executed and even the ending, usually a problematic thing with this sort of film, was quite satisfactory.

With an outstanding cast this film really pulls off a tough story.  I really like the filming though it is certainly evident that this is a British project.  And director Richard Lester's work is evident here. It is with good humor that the great actors here play their roles as aging players.  And what a great cast it is with the likes of Robert Shaw and the great Nicol Williamson.  Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn do a wonderful job of past lovers who come back together after 20 years. Overall this is a very good watch and should be seen by anyone who loves the Robin Hood fantasy.

Wikipedia Film Info 3.5 Staring Elena Anaya Natasha Yarovenko Enrico Lo Verso Najwa Nimri Thoughts:First, the blurb above from DVDP says "Like the erotic classic LAST TANGO IN PARIS" but i must say this film is nothing like The Last Tango in Paris. "The Last Tango in Paris" becomes violent .. vicious.  Not so this film. I am not sure what to say about this film.  On one hand it is visually a very erotic watch.  Two beautiful women who find each other and have a passionate short affair.  One the other hand it is a very good emotional travel to the depths of intimacy .. where one surrenders all self to the other. I really like the filming and direction of this film.  And the two actresses Elena Anaya and Natasha Yarovenko are simply wonderful in this one.  Beautiful, both physically and emotionally (at least in the film) .. both very brave to play these roles. Just a note .. this is visually soft porn.  Nothing hard or violent in this film. I would strongly suggest this film to anyone who enjoys great emotional travels and i not afraid of a little (or a lot) of nudity.

Rango Get ready to tango with RANGO, a winner with critics and audiences that's "like nothing you've ever seen before" (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone). Johnny Depp is spectacular as Rango, a kooky pet chameleon who gets tossed into a wild and raucous town in desperate need of a hero. Refreshingly original with eye-popping animations, RANGO is "loads of fun and genuinely funny" (Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times). Wikipedia Film Info 3.5 Staring Johnny Depp Isla Fisher Abigail Breslin Alfred Molina Bill Nighy Harry Dean Stanton Ray Winstone Timothy Olyphant Ned Beatty Thoughts: This is a fun film.  It is not on the level of Monsters, Inc. or even Up .. but it is a very fun watch. Good characters and a very fun storyline.  Great cast as noted above so all things considered I really like this one.  Not sure why i am only giving it a 3.5 but to me it lacks a bit .. no real connection to the characters for me.

Wikipedia Film Info Staring: John Candy Maureen O'Hara Ally Sheedy Anthony Quinn Thoughts: I haven't seen this film in a really long time.  Possibly when it first came out.  I simply love John Candy in this one.  I think we lost a great talent when he died and we are worse for it.  Ally Sheedy is also brilliant in this.  She and Candy really seemed to have some chemistry in this film.  I have always liked the films with Ally Sheedy in them ... well at least her performances in them (see High Art for the gritty side of her performances).  And I don't want to forget the great performance by Maureen O'Hara.  In her last feature role (and after many years retired), this is great .. she is fiesty here like I have not seen her since The Quiet Man or possibly McLintok!.  And though not in it very much, Anthony Quinn is as always a force on the screen. With a good supporting cast, this film is a great feel good film.  Good writing with sometimes supurb dialog and good direction from the great Chris Columbus. Yes, this is one film I am happy to give a 4 to.
	Working Girl Nominated for 6 Academy Awards®, director Mike Nichols' witty, romantic look at life in the corporate jungle stars MELANIE GRIFFITH as Tess McGill, an ambitious secretary with a unique approach for climbing the ladder to success. When her classy, but villainess boss (SIGOURNEY WEAVER) breaks a leg skiing, Tess simply takes over her office, her apartment, even her wardrobe. She then creates a deal with a handsome investment banker (HARRISON FORD) that will either take her straight to the top- or finish her off for good. Wikipedia Film Info Staring: Melanie Griffith Harrison Ford Sigourney Weaver Alec Baldwin Joan Cusack Philip Bosco Thoughts: One of my favorite Melanie Griffith film (along with Milk Money, this one is a great hoot.  Energy between Harrison Ford and Melanie Griffith is great and believable.  Griffith, just coming off several really bad films really shows that the problems with the other films had nothing to do with her.  Harrison Ford was just coming off a bunch of blockbusters with the last several Witness, The Mosquito Coast and Frantic being very serious dramatic efforts.  This one loosened up his little more humorous side. Sigourney Weaver, coming off Ghostbusters[/ur], [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliens_(film)]Aliens and Gorillas in the Mist: The Story of Dian Fossey really shows her comedic chops here.  And she can really play the bitch. This film has a great supporting case in Alec Baldwin, Joan Cusack and Philip Bosco. This is another great feelgood film and is recommended to anyone.
	Nothing But Trouble Chevy Chase, Demi Moore, John Candy and Dan Aykroyd are nothing but uproarious in this cockeyed comedy (written and directed by Aykroyd) packing more ghoulish glee than Beetlejuice. Welcome to Valkenvania, the Twilight Zone of speed traps. One wrong turn off the New Jersey Turnpike and stock market whiz Chase and investment lawyer Moore end up there. One minor driving violation and they're hauled off by Valkenvania's finest (Candy) to the part-courtroom, part-funhouse of 106-year-old Justice of the Peace Alvin Valkenheiser (Aykroyd). From frying pan to fire, Nothing But Trouble (with Aykroyd and Candy in two tasty roles each) is a howl. Wikipedia Film Info Staring: Chevy Chase Dan Aykroyd John Candy Demi Moore Thoughts: This is a Chevy Chase film.  Or a Dan Aykroyd film, after all he directed it.  Chevy Chase always plays to the excess (see 1981's Modern Problems).  But Aykroyd being director really needed to rein in some of the confusions.  And Demi Moore?? I like some of her stuff but she really has no comedic talent.  At least it doesn't show here. This could have been a much better film but it isn't.  There are some funny bits and those are the only saving grace of this film.  John Candy is good in both roles (sheriff and his sister). Having said all that I have to say that this is a fun watch if you are in the mood for total nonsense.  If you can get through films like Modern Problems and/or Doctor Detroit you will like this. I have seen it before and will watch it again but not too soon.
	The Hudsucker Proxy Mailroom clerk Norville Barnes is a rube, a schmoe, a grade-A ding-dong – just what Hudsucker Industries wants in a president! With him at the top, the stock will hit bottom...and the fat cats on the board can take over. But Norville (Tim Robbins) has his own spiffy little plan. And if a snoopy reporter (Jennifer Jason Leigh) doesn't put the kibosh on the Hudsucker flimflam and finagling big cheese Sidney J. Mussburger (Paul Newman) doesn't squash him, Norville's idea will put a smile on the hips of all America! The Hudsucker Proxy will plaster a smile on you, too. With a nod to the rapid-fire movies of Frank Capra and Preston Sturges and lots of visual flair, filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen (Fargo, The Big Lebowski) craft a comic Hiyah Bub! to business success. You'll love the Hud! Wikipedia Film Info Staring: Tim Robbins Jennifer Jason Leigh Paul Newman Charles Durning Thoughts: What a great opening ... the Great Bill Cobbs narrates the story.  He has one of those voices you just love to listen to. Norville Barnes (Tim Robbins) is looking for a job, in what appears to be 40's New York.  Meanwhile a board meeting of the great Hudsucker Corporation is going on where an 'accountant' type person is drowning on ending with "In short .. we're loaded".  Smiling, Waring Hudsucker (Charles Durning) climbs onto his chair and then the table .. takes a few steps and runs right out the window plummeting a bazillion floors to the street below.  On the way down he wipes a tear out of his eye. "Waring Hudsucker was never an easy man top figure out.  He built this company with his bare hands.  Every step he took .. was a step up.  Except, of course his last one." With a start like this you might worry that the best has happened .. but this film has no "it's too slow" bits.  From the fall to the street, to the express elevator ride to the top 'with a blue letter' this film goes like listening to the conversation between Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell in His Girl Friday. Being a Coen Brothers film, with writing credit including Sam Raimi,  'The Hudsucker Proxy' gives great 'quirky' characters portrayed by a great cast.  With writing starting in 1981, before their first credit, filming started the end of 1992.  Coming off the films Miller's Crossing, the great Barton Fink and just before Fargo and The Big Lebowski.  The story and filming is first rate.  Paying homage to just about every great film from Metropolis to Meet John Doe and must watch His Girl Friday. Tim Robbins, just off The Shawshank Redemption, is fresh and great in his performance of Norville Barnes.  Wild, wacky and totally innocent imbecile.  Jennifer Jason Leigh, just off Single White Female and Short Cuts plays reporter Amy Archer.  Hard nosed,  fast talking and more man than woman, again with homage to 'His Girl Friday'.  Finally, Paul Newman is a brilliant choice as Sidney J. Mussburger.  A great heavy for the film. And a great supporting cast with Jim True-Frost, Bill Cobbs, Harry Bugin, Bruce Campbell, John Mahoney, Patrick Cranshaw, Sam Raimi and John Goodman.  Some great quirky actors for great quirky parts. 'The Hudsucker Proxy' was a box-office flop.  I might have been one of the 10 people who saw it <G>.  But I really like this one.  I have no problem suggesting this film to any of my friends. This is a visual feast, with great characters and a vision of capitalism that plays well.

I had not realized seeing her before until researching this film.  It is hard to believe that the beautiful girl here is the same 'little girl' that started as Violet Baudelaire in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (an under appreciated film from a great book series).  Of course that was 7 years earlier.  She is still beautiful and seems to have a good presense on the screen.  Even back to Ghost Ship her short bits were commanding. Along with Emily Browning is generally a good supporting cast.  Some of the filming is very luxurious and most all of it very good. I do like this film, though it does take a bit to get into it.  One that I am happy to own and will watch again.
	SetUp A group of friends plan out a detailed heist that turns deadly when one betrays the other by taking off with the goods. Taking matters into his own hands, Sonny seeks out his revenge teaming up with the most dangerous mob boss in town to get back what is rightfully his. Fine cast including the ever beautiful Mira Solvino (not just a beauty but also a pretty fine actress).  Jeremy Northam and Josh Brolin round out the primarys with very good bits by Charles S. Dutton (always a hoot) and Giancarlo Giannini who always turns in a fine performance. A hearty recommend on this one .. though the following 2 films are not as good.
	Abduction TAYLOR LAUTNER explodes on-screen as a young man whose secret past is set to collide with a dangerous reality. After uncovering a deadly lie, Nathan (LAUTNER) is propelled on a lethal, no-holds-barred mission to learn the truth. Aided by a devoted family friend (SIGOURNEY WEAVER), Nathan's hunt for the facts pits him against ruthless assassins and questionable allies. 3.5 Wikipedia Film Info Staring: Taylor Lautnerv Lily Collins Alfred Molina Jason Isaacs Maria Bello Sigourney Weaver Michael Nyqvist Dermot Mulroney Thoughts: This isnt a bad little film.  Taylor Lautner, who of course played Jacob Black in the Twilight Franchise.  I like him in this.  He is always a little *stiff* but enjoyable.  Lily Collins, from The Blind Side, Priest, Mirror Mirror and the upcoming The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones puts in a very nice performance.  Just her thrid role she puts in a very gutsy performance. With a good supporting cast including Alfred Molina, Sigourney Weaver and Dermont Mulroney this has a the bits need to have an excellent film.  With a little bit of script change and maybe a little different filming this would be a very good film. Happy to recommend this to those with an open mind.

As his new identity becomes compromised Jeremy is forced to take an unexpected course of action in order to get is life back and save the lives of those he loves. 3.0 Wikipedia Film Info Staring: Josh Duhamel Rosario Dawson Bruce Willis Vincent D'Onofrio 50 Cent Thoughts: Pretty good action film with Josh Duamel and Vincent D'Onofrio pulling the weight.  I have always like D'Onofrio as the bad guy ever since his role in The Cell.  There were other great roles but this one stands out for me.   Although the storyline is a little standard, i really like the way it was done. Happy to recomment this one.

Both Josh Charles and Andrea Roth are servicable in their roles. If you like strictly LOW BUDGET action adventure then this one is for you.  (why did i give it a 3?  Rutger Hauer)

Not just how hot she was but once again she seemed to have presence.  Especially for a first staring role.  I don't think she has gotten the roles she should have but what she has done shows some spots of brilliance. Good supporting cast, but pretty much Jennifer Beals on her own. Another recommend.

Shia LaBeouf pulls off another very good performance.  I can only imagine how hard it would be to be in an action film.  But in an action film where you are playing against *nothing* that would have to be very very hard.  And LaBeouf appears to have this down to a science.  I have liked him in several other things and find him to be a very good actor.  Capable of great roles. There is a great cast here.  With Rosie Huntington-Whiteley taking over the romantic role from Megan Fox, I don't think they have lost anytbhing.  She seems to pull it off quite well.  And there are several new faces along with the old cast.  Frances McDormand plays a great goverment bitch and Patrick Dempsey is a great bad guy in this one. If you like high action and a fan of Transformers then this is a good film to watch.

The cast is very good.  Jason Statham shows some of his stuff in this one of his earlier roles.  And of course the great Delroy Lindo.  What a great character actor he is.   This film is also fun because it deals with the concept of multiple dimensions as opposed to time.  So no paradox problems here.  Also interesting as it takes on a bit of the Highlander story line where one takes on the power of the one he slays.  Here it is similar .. though different Overall a good high paced action film with some fun twists and turns.  A good one to recommend.

It is a good watch if you like Tommy Lee Jones as I do.  If not then I would suggest you pass this one by.  It doesn't really offer anything except a way to pass some time.

We have Demi Moore in her first *real* role.  Young, sexy she plays the role well when she learns of her father's romance with her friend.  We also have Michelle Johnson in her first role as the *lolita-like* to Michael Caine. All in all this is a very fun watch.  Caine at time seems wooden and Michelle Johnson is *okay* but not really believable.  At times the humor is forced.  I am not sure why I am giving it a 3.5 instead of a 3 but maybe it is Michael Caine. If you haven't seen it .. watch it.
	Better than Chocolate "BETTER THAN CHOCOLATE" is a sexy romp of love and lust with surprising results. Maggie (Karyn Dwyer) meets the woman of her dreams, Kim (Christina Cox), just hours before her mother, Lila (Wendy Crewson), and brother, Paul (Kevin Mundy), move in with her. When the four end up sharing a loft. Maggie believes she must keep her affair a secret but it is Maggie's clandestine romance that inadvertently introduces her family to a host of new experiences, all of which are potentially better than chocolate. 2.5 Wikipedia Film Info Staring: Wendy Crewson Karyn Dwyer Christina Cox Thoughts: I had read that this one was a good film.  Winning numerous rewards at festivals etc.  But this was a little to shlocky for me.  Maybe without the original buildup I would give it a higher score and maybe I will have to watch this one again .. but it until then. This should be on you watch before buying list

If you liked Jet Li in The One, you may like him in Kiss of the Dragon also. His best are the Once Upon a Time in China movies though.

I do like Jet Li.  Like most of america probably came into contact with him from Lethal Weapon 4 from the great Lethal Weapon Franchise.  Have liked him in most everything I have seen him in ... including as you mentioned "Kiss of the Dragon" which was very good, and "Once Upon a Time in China".  He can, at times, show a softer side which i like.  I love flawed heroes <G>

Edited:  i also really liked him in Unleashed.  Pretty wide range of emotions in that one.

But after four years in exile, Vincent secretly returns intent on rescuing the woman he loves from her dangerous fate. 3.5 Wikipedia Film Info Staring: James Franco Julianne Nicholson Josh Lucas Martin Donovan Thoughts: This is a good film with fine performances from James Franco, Julianne Nicholson and Josh Lucas.  The first time I saw Julianne Nicholson was when she was staring in Law & Order: Criminal Intent.  I find her facinating.  She has at times a 'tom-boy' type charm and then very feminine.  With hypnotic red hair/complextion (mostly) and beautiful face ... with just a touch of Alfred E. Newman. Josh Lucas, not to be forgotten, is also good in this one. Though pretty standard it is a good watch.
	Puncture Mike Weiss (Chris Evans) is a talented young Houston lawyer and a functioning drug addict. Paul Danziger (co-director Mark Kassen), his longtime friend and partner, is the straight-laced and responsible yin to Mike's yang. Their mom-and-pop personal injury law firm is getting by, but things really get interesting when they decide to take on a case involving Vicky (Vinessa Shaw), a local ER nurse, who is pricked by a contaminated needle on the job. As Weiss and Danziger dig deeper into the case, a health care and pharmaceutical conspiracy teeters on exposure and heavyweight attorneys move in on the defense. Out of their league but invested in their own principles, the mounting pressure of the case pushes the two underdog lawyers and their business to the breaking point. 3.0 Wikipedia Film Info Staring: Chris Evans Mark Kassen Vinessa Shaw Brett Cullen Michael Biehn Marshall Bell Thoughts: I like this one probably better than I should have.  A terribly flawed lawyer trying to do the right thing against the odds.  This is "based" on a true story and is a story that everyone should know about.  When "the-powers-that-be" hold off such an important concept simply to make money everyone should be outraged. Thought provoking movie and a pretty good watch.
	Shooting Gallery (aka Poolhall Prophets) Jericho Hudson (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) is a street kid with a gift for shooting pool. He finds himselfi n the middle of a dangerous hustle when he's played as a pawn in a contest of wits and Nine Ball between two legendary pool hustlers, Cue Ball Carl Bridges and Tenderloin Tony, and a corrupt Vice cop, Timothy Mortensen. With the help of his rounder girlfriend, Jezebel (Roselyn Sanchez), Jericho puts his own bold hustle into motion, revealing that he too is driven by unknown and vengeful motives. Pulling a "long frame" on Cue Ball Carl and Mortensen, he maneuvers these two dangerous men towards each other with explosive results. The question is, will he life to tell the story? 3.0 Wikipedia Film Info Staring: Freddie Prinze, Jr. Ving Rhames Callum Keith Rennie Angus Macfadyen Roselyn Sanchez Thoughts: Not a terrible film .. but not a really good film either.  The cast seems very good with Freddie Prinze, Jr, Ving Rhames and Callum Keith Rennie it should/could have been better.  The flow of the film was not bad.  So I am not sure why it isn't better.  Not a great story line but serviceable.  Possibly because of the low budget there just wasn't time to make the film better. Not a bad watch and I will watch it again.  But don't pay a lot for it.
	Escape From Alaska An oil refinery explodes in a small Alaskan town triggering a massive avalanche killing a group of skiers. Now, three years later, the refinery has been reconstructed with the addition of a new pipeline. Dr. Lia Freeman, an environmental inspector and sole survivor of the avalanche, is sent to give final approval to the project. Through the course of her inspections, she becomes convinced that the avalanche risk is now greater than before. After sounding the alarm with nothing happening, Dr. Freeman is labeled an alarmist. He has no superpowers to battle the evil he sees – only his fierce intelligence, his years of combat experience and, above all, his iron determination to avenge those wronged by society's villains. 3.0 Wikipedia Film Info Staring: Thomas Jane John Travolta Will Patton Roy Scheider Laura Harring Ben Foster Rebecca Romijn Thoughts: This isn't a bad film.  It is based on a Marvel comic book series Punisher.  Not having read the series I come to the film with no preconceptions nor expectations.  From all that I have read, Thomas Jane worked very hard to build up for the role.  I think that Thomas Jane does a serviceable-to-good job as Frank Castle / The Punisher.  I enjoyed John Travolta as the bad guy and Will Patton' performance was also quite good. Overall the storyline and script were good and enjoyable.  No real gaps in logic. I will watch this again and am happy it is in the collection.  A good recommend to anyone who likes Action/Hero films with heavy dose of revenge.  No CGI here really just gritty dark action.

The Man Who Came to Dinner Famed author Sheridan Whiteside possesses a tongue dipped in venom and a brain that can crack The New York Times crossword in four minutes. He proceeds to plunge the household into chaos, ruling the place the czar and meddling in everyone's love life. Monty Woolley reprises his Broadway triumph as the imperious Whiteside in this delightful, lightning-paced farce. A who's who of Hollywood talents portray a who's who of thinly veiled real-life luminaries ranging from Gertrude Lawrence to Harpo Marx. And Bette Davis shines in an uncharacteristic role as Whiteside's unflappable secretary. The Man Who Came to Dinner: it's feast of wit and sophistication. 3.5 Wikipedia Film Info Staring: Monty Woolley Bette Davis Ann Sheridan Richard Travis Jimmy Durante Grant Mitchell Billie Burke Thoughts: Another great film from the 40's (1942).  With a great cast lead by Monty Wolley.  If you haven't seen anything with Monty Wolley in it you owe it to yourself to do so.  A couple of my favorites are this one and Holy Matrimony, Irish Eyes Are Smiling, Night and Day, The Bishops Wife, and As Young as You Feel.  Although he doesn't STAR in all the films his presence is always welcomed and the films turn out to be quite good. Of course the rest of the cast is also quite good.  Betty Davis is very good, as usual, as a powerful 'in control' woman who loses some control.  Ann Sheridan is wonderful as the 'femme fatale'.  Richard Travis plays the sappy object of affection for Betty Davis.  With Jimmy Durante popping in for a couple of scenes.  Grant Mitchel and Billie Burke (ahh billie burke how much fun she is) are great as the home owners that Monty is sponging off of. All in all this is great fun.  Great example of the comedy of the 40's.  Fully recommended.

Jimmy Durante shines when he sings "Jingle Bells" and other well-loved Christmas carols in the evocative voice that made him one of America's recording legends. 3.5 Wikipedia Film Info Staring: Jimmy Durante Queenie Smith     Terry Moore Tom Drake Frank Orth Sara Haden Thoughts: Another one that slipped by for Christmas.  "A Christmas Wish", also known by 'The Great Rupert' stars Jimmy Durante, not a great actor, is very good in this role of a 40's showman just trying to get by.  He and his wife, played by Queenie Smith, and his daughter, played by Terry Moore move into a home vacated by 'Rupert' the squirrels owner (actually evicted by Frank Orth character) plays tricks on The Dingle family and the Amendola family. This is a fun bit of christmas fluff.  The big thing here is the stop-motion done by the brilliant George Pal. Overall it is a christmas watch I look forward to.
	Trapped in Paradise Nicolas Cage, Dana Carvey and Jon Lovitz are the larcenous Firpo brothers. Bill (Cage) is a good-hearted guy doing his best to keep pathological Dave (Lovitz) and kleptomaniac Alvin (Carvey) out of trouble. But the two small-time crooks lure their brother into robbing a bank in the small town of Paradise, Pennsylvania, where pulling off the heist is a snap compared to getting out of town after a snowstorm hits. And, the brothers soon discover that all their big-city smarts are useless against the unsuspecting, good-hearted townsfolk who shower them with kindness at every turn. 3.5 Wikipedia Film Info Staring: Nicolas Cage Jon Lovitz Dana Carvey Mädchen Amick Florence Stanley Donald Moffat Angela Paton Thoughts: This is one of my favorite Christmas films (must be 20-30 favorites by now) and look forward to the watch every year...even though I usually watch it during the year too. Nicolas Cage, Jon Lovitz and Dana Carvey are great as bungling brothers.  Though Jon Lovitz and Dana Carvey normally wear on me, i think the combination of the 3 and the inclusion of so many good actors really helps to make their performances more palitable. The storyline is good with great fun ... jokes and physical bits abound.  And with great supporting actors like Vic Manni, Frank Pesce, John Ashton and John Bergantine (only known performance) this is a completly formed cast. If you haven't seen this one i strongly recommend that you see it.

This film is well scripted and well directed.  Action scenes go smoothly and dialog connects well.  Although the film *seems* to drag at times, I think that is more due to what we have come to expect than any problem with this film. All the supporting actors do their job very well. George Clooney plays a very flawed character here. Not some well intentioned contract assassin.  I really like this one and recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it.

Lou Diamond Phillips, Kelly Brook and Ron Perlman co-star. 3.0 [img] Wikipedia Film Info Staring: Christopher Lambert Kelly Brook Lou Diamond Phillips Ron Perlman Thoughts: This was a Christmas present, along with several others, and upon seeing the 'stars' was kind of dubious.  From the cover it looked like a very low budget film and with stars like Ron Perlman, Kelly Brook and Christoper Lambert how could it be any really good. But I was very pleasently surprised.  It isn't great rocket science as the plot is a litle thin but overall the film is pretty good.  Christopher Lambert gives a better than average performance (for christoper lambert) and is a character you care about.  Not sure that I buy Kelly Brook for a scientist but then again her promotion might be for other facits she has. Ron Perlman is really good as the bad guy in this one.  You really want to hate him and you really hope he gets his. Overall it is a pretty fun film.  When you learn that the film was done on a total of $8 million it doesn't seem so bad.  A recommendation ... if you are going to buy this one find it used or in a BARGAIN bin.
