Canadians, watch DD's shipping prices.
« on: April 27, 2008, 02:56:42 AM »
I just placed an order with DD for 7 movies worth 67$. At checkout time I was surprised by the 80$ total so I took a close look and noticed that shipping charges are 12.95$. I checked my previous orders with them with ranged from 29$ to 96$ in value and I have always paid 5.95$ for shipping so I check their shipping rates and they are changed. It now goes as follows.

Up to $25.00$5.95
$25.01 - $50.00$8.95
$50.01 - $100.00$12.95
$100.01 to $150.00$16.95
$150.01 to $200.00$23.95
$200.01 to $250.00$29.95
$250.01 to $300.00$37.95
More than $300.00$99.95

If Canada Posts is to charge you customs and taxes above this, it looks like DD is no longer a very good place to buy for canadians.  I certainly won't complete my order before taking the time to see how much it would cost me in Canada, especially if I consider that with DD it can take up to 3 weeks before I get them.

I order from Deep Discount very rarely : I found them slow as hell and I always pay the taxes at the border, if the shipping is change this way no more order from me. The shipping is suppose to be charge by disc or by the weight and certainly not by the price.

Amazon, Xploited and Caiman will be more than happy to keep my business

Why do you continue to use Deep Discount? With all this Amazon is more cheaper

Same items from amazon.ca comes to 122$+tax.  Amazon.ca may be cheaper for us if we buy at regular price but it seems that DD's sales are still a good deal for us.  Except for "The Sea Inside" which was at regular price, all movies were under 10$ when they're all at around 15$ on Amazon except one.

The bottom line is even though our dollar is at par with the USD, we're still paying prices like when it was worth 85 cents.

Check marketplace, usually the price are good (unless you want an oop criterion dvd ). The shipping is just a little bit over 3$ by dvd.

The shipping is just a little bit over 3$ by dvd.

And this is what keeps me from buying too much from Marketplace. I'd rather combine order and pay roughly 15-20$ per DVD with no shipping and them being new with the possibility to return them if bad, than 9.99$+3$ for each DVD with the risk of being stuck with a defective.
