Just watched disc one of the first season and was not expecting it to be as funny as it is. How are later seasons in comparison?

In my opinion the quality of the show remains the same throughout. I have seen the first four seasons so far. Strangely I haven't bought further seasons yet. But I plan to.

It has its ups and downs.  But it's still good.

And the end date is 2013.  The final episode is Thursday.
