I really love Monsters Inc. and Cars (both PiXAR)

And since you're European: My childhood favourites: Astérix

They are both types of movies that cover such a huge spectrum... What animated and comedy movies have you enjoyed in the past? It'll make it easier to give you some recommendations in the right direction of what you enjoy.

Hmmm, I'm not big on animated movies so I'll leave recommendations for that.

Comedy wise:
Bulworth
Very Bad Things
Hot Tub Time Machine
Sex Drive
Shaun of the Dead
Hot Fuzz
Bad Teacher
Old School
Dodgeball
Juno
Naked Gun
Hot Shots
Wayne's World
The Jerk
Horrible Bosses
Black Dynamite
Kingpin
A Fish Called Wanda
Fierce Creatures
The Seven Year Itch
Carry On (series of films)
Marx Brothers stuff

These are all off the top of my head and cover quite a range of types of comedy.

I can never really make a top genre list, but I would recommend any I noted.

Based on your horror tastes, I think you would love Shaun of the Dead the most out of those and I would also chuck in Severance and Zombieland.

Very Bad Things is very dark, but very very funny. Hot Tub Time Machine and Sex Drive are both very funny but geared more at a general audience.

I love Juno but it is one of those love/hate 'hipster' movies.

Never Again

I thought this movie was hysterical.

There are some, how should I put it?, risque moments so only get it if you like a good dirty joke.

For comedies, I agree that "Shaun of the Dead" is a must see. Especially as you are a horror guy.
Some other great must-see comedies:
Monty Python's "Life of Brian"
Truman Show
Kick-Ass
Galaxy Quest

For animated. I love some Disney movies like "Tangled". And I love most of the Pixar stuff like "Wall-E", "Ratatouille" and "The Incredibles".

If you are not adverse to try some Japanese animation (which they are masters in), I really can recommend The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Also most of the Studio Ghibli stuff (see Dave's Studio Ghibli Reviews)

Oh now I understand, you mean comedy apart from animation. I thought you meant comedies in animation form.

The an additional animation I like, is Titan A.E.

On the other side, it completely depends what kind of humour you appreciate. Even light comedy ranges from romantic misunderstandings to "flute in certain female body parts" humour.

And that doesn't even include dark humour movies.

I.. I.. I like alot of different stuff when it comes to humor, i can appreciate everything from romantic misunderstaninds to "dirty humor"
to Jim Carrey and Ace Ventura you know? :)
The stuff i dont appreciate that much is "chick flicks" like Nothing Hill, Billy Elliot, Dirty Dancing.. Those kinds

Being from the nerd generation, I always liked Kevin Smith's New Jersey series, which started with Clerks, then Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back & Clerks II

I'd suggest you get Mallrats or Dogma. If you like the style, get the rest.

People who I find to be totally un-funny is Ben Stiller to me. I just don't see the appeal. Also the Road Trip / Euro Trip movies didn't do anything for me.

I really like the American Pie movies because I grew fond of the characters. I even liked some of the American Pie Presents: "sequels" (these are movies in the AP universe but without the normal characters).

And if we're going for 80s classics: You can't do much wrong with something with Bill Murray and/or Dan Aykroyd.
