Title: Stay Alive (2006)

Genre: Horror
Director: William Brent Bell
Rating: NR
Length: 1h41
Video: Widescreen 2.35:1
Audio: English
Subtitles: English, French and Spanish

Stars:
Jon Foster
Samaire Armstrong
Frankie Muniz
Jimmi Simpson
Sophia Bush

Plot:
The blood runs deep in this unrated director's cut of Stay Alive, the mind-bending thriller about a killer video game. The real world and the game world gruesomely collide when a group of friends play Stay Alive, a mysterious underground videogame that kills the gamer whose character dies in play. In a death-defying race against time, the survivors must solve the mystery of the game while desperately trying to stay alive. More spine-chilling gore and action, plus all-new, never-before-seen material — including a new character and subplot — push this version way over the edge of what could be seen in theatres.

My Thoughts:
The idea of this film isn't a bad one, even if I'm sure I've seen something else based on the same idea but...

Try to fix your mind for crying out loud. At one point you must die in the game to die in real life, after you can die without dying in the game, sometimes the game start alone and you die anyway and sometimes the game cheat and you die... Without that the film would have been ok, not that good as the CGI is awfull and the acting really bad (without mentionning the flower thingy who is incredibly dumb) but as it was poorly written the result is a weak illogic films.

The theatrical version is supposed to be worst, so I hope it isn't the one you own

But don't take my words as gospel as I tend to be very critical with the "new" movies, so maybe you'll like it.

Title: Cemetery Girls (1973)

Genre: Horror
Director: Javier Aguirre
Rating: R
Length: 1h25
Video: Widescreen 1.78:1
Audio: English
Subtitles: English

Stars:
Paul Naschy
Rosanna Yanni
Haydée Politoff
Mirta Miller
José Manuel Martín

Plot:
While traveling by wagon, a quartet of beautiful women discuss Dracula mythos on the way through the Carpathian Mountains. After losing a wagon wheel, the four unwavering women are stranded at the sanitarium of the eccentric Dr. Wendell aka Count Dracula. One of them will be Dracula's lover. Prepare for the shocking conclusion of Cemetery Girls.

My Thoughts:
In the early seventies there was two countries putting on the market serious vampire movies and those country are of course England and Spain. Contrary to most english production this one is set in modern times (at least modern seventies Spain countryside). First thing I must say is that the dubbing job is better than what we are use to for the italian movie, the dialogue make sense and is not ridiculous (but the lips movement doesn't fit many times). Also I like the story as it isn't just a "Dracula must kill" type of story. I must say also that for me Paul Naschy is how Dracula is supposed to look like : a relatively young attractive man and not an old fart or an odd looking guy with an accent. Also, wich is important, this the first time the uncensored english version is available on DVD from a theatrical print.

Title: Vampire Hookers (1979)

Genre: Horror
Director: Cirio H. Santiago
Rating: R
Length: 1h19
Video: Widescreen 1.78:1
Audio: English
Subtitles: None

Stars:
John Carradine
Bruce Fairbairn
Trey Wilson
Karen Stride
Lenka Novak

Plot:
Horror legend John Carradine stars as John Richmond, a smooth-talking vampire with a bevy of sexy negligeed vampires who lure unsuspecting sailors to their crypt for a small blood donation.

My Thoughts:
I wouldn't call that one a classic, but it have is charm even if it's a really dumb movie. Of course 95% of the jokes aren't that funny, but I got a couple of good laugh (wich is better than most comedy do for me). Anyway this film worth a watch because of John Carradine (even if it is a little bit sad to see him suffer so much from arthritis) and the endless love scene between Fairbairn and the three vampire girls (those vampires sure nice tan line for women who haven't seen the sun for more than 100 years).

Of course as a stand alone that would be waste of money, but as a double features this isn't a problem.

No trailer, but I know Pete will appreciate the closing credit

Title: Massacre at Central High (1976)

Genre: Horror
Director: Rene Daalder
Rating: R
Length: 1h28
Video: Full Frame
Audio: English
Subtitles: None

Stars:
Derrel Maury
Andrew Stevens
Robert Carradine
Kimberly Beck
Ray Underwood

Plot:
David, a new student at Central High School who is shocked at the degree of control wielded by three preppie thugs who run the school with an iron fist. At first befriended by Mark (Andrew Stevens), David is soon the victim of bullying when Mark believes that he is courting his girlfriend, Teresa (Kimberly Beck), and points him out to the "ruling class." The worst is still to come, however, when David threatens the pecking order by foiling the three boys' attempted gang rape of a female student and has his leg crushed for his efforts.

My Thoughts:
This one is more a drama than an horror film even if it was marketed as one. It's a low budget production and it is obvious, but it isn't the kind of thing that bother me when I watch a film. In fact I must give one thing, this film was ahead of his time by the subject treated. I like also the moral of this movie, but I won't say what it is as it would spoil the film. As you can see many familliar faces are in this film : Andrew Stevens (The Terror Within, The Boys in Company C, Dallas,...), Robert Carradine (Revenge of the Nerds, Blackout, ...), Kimberly Beck (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter) and Cheryl Smith who was in a ton of films in the seventies. Another thing I've notice is that we don't see any adults almost untill the end of the film (the first one appear after 1h10 more or less). Like I said it isn't the best film ever made but it worth a watch and since the film is in the public domain it's easy to find it (on the negative side that means that we are stuck with bad fullframe video source).

Title: Night Warning (1983)

Genre: Horror
Director: William Asher
Rating: R
Length: 1h33
Video: Full Frame
Audio: English
Subtitles: None

Stars:
Jimmy McNichol
Susan Tyrrell
Bo Svenson
Marcia Lewis
Julia Duffy

Plot:
An orphaned teenager finds himself being dominated by his aunt who's hell-bent on keeping him with her...at all costs.

My Thoughts:
I've read a lot about this one trought the years, so I can say that my expectations were quite high. They were sure met, what a disturbing film... Not disturbing in the sense of a bloody violent showing, but in the sense of a creepy vibe as the story develops (that aunt is sure fricking insane). A really great Oscar worthy performance from Susan Tyrrell who sadly die in june this year. I can't wait to see release the special edition Code Red is working on for years when the behind the scene shit will stop.

Title: The Forsaken (2001)

Genre: Horror
Director: J.S. Cardone
Rating: R
Length: 1h31
Video: Widescreen 1.85:1
Audio: English and French
Subtitles: Chinese, English, French, Korean and Thai

Stars:
Kerr Smith
Brendan Fehr
Izabella Miko
Johnathon Schaech
Phina Oruche

Plot:
Sean (Kerr Smith) is in a race against time that will determine his fate for the rest of his life as he becomes infected with a virus that will eventually turn him into a blood-sucking, flesh eating vampire.

A cross-country road trip takes a dangerous detour when driver-for-hire Sean (Kerr Smith) picks up Nick, a hitchhiker (Brendan Fehr) who is on the trail of a band of vampires. At a roadside diner, the encounter a crazed and helpless woman, a recent victim of a vampire feeding, and Sean becomes infected. Now, the three must race against time to track down and kill the source of the virus: a centuries-old vampire with superhuman strength and an appetite for blood.

A hard-driving, adrenaline-pumping thriller in the infectious tradition of THE LOST BOYS and JOHN CARPENTER'S VAMPIRES, THE FORSAKEN will scare the daylights out of you!

My Thoughts:
Seriously on wich planet or alternate dimension of our planet this is comparable to The Lost Boys or John Carpenter Vampire's? There is nothing good in this film at all... The acting is incredibly bad, we don't give a damn about any of the characters (the fire flashy vampires, the hitchiker and the looser car delivery man are as much anoying, whoever die I didn't care one bit), the editing is annoying as fuck (seriously what the point of the fast forward for nothing or the badly done fast cuts), the generic boring nu metal crap is unbearable, the script is full of hole (why the "vampire" give a damn about those two guys in the first place???) and the fail open ending for a sequel.

But it must be that bad if the Fashion Wire Daily finds it terrifying... common they are a trustworthy source of quality. Isn't it pathetic when you must quote a critic from an internet fashion magazine

Title: Forced Entry (1975)

Genre: Horror
Director: Jim Sotos
Rating: R
Length: 1h29
Video: Full Frame
Audio: English
Subtitles: None

Stars:
Tanya Roberts
Ron Max
Nancy Allen
Brian Freilino
Vasco Valladeres

Plot:
A serial rapist stalks and murders prostitutes.

My Thoughts:
For an unofficial remake of Shaun Costello's Forced Entry this is incredibly boring... Nothing really happen (there only two attacks poorly done before the not so great finale) and most of the film is monologue after monologues by the "serial rapist" (I put it in coma as he rape no one...).

Huge deception as I had a lot of expectations for this movie...

No clue why they say it's from 2010 as it's from the 1975 movie
It wasn't released on DVD two years ago, but obviously it was remastered (of course it was Code Red own that movie) and look way better than what I have. The movie is no good but the trailer sure make it looks it was.

Sad that I don't speak italian as the original version is on YouTube and they talk normally... at least Laura can check it in her language if she always come arround here

Title: Demons 2 (1986)

Genre: Horror
Director: Lamberto Bava
Rating: NR
Length: 1h31
Video: Widescreen 1.66:1
Audio: English
Subtitles: None

Stars:
David Edwin Knight
Nancy Brilli
Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni
Bobby Rhodes
Asia Argento

Plot:
The story continues as a birthday party in a high-security apartment building (with bullet-proof windows) is interrupted when the birthday girl is transformed into a vicious demon by watching a horror movie on TV. The evil spirits quickly possess many of the building's tenants who begin to prey on their neighbors. The remaining residents have no way of escaping the hungry demons and are forced to battle them in order to survive.

My Thoughts:
One of those rare case where the sequel is as good as the original. Everything that was fun in Demons is back, but this time the demons take over an housing tower via a TV broadcast. Even better the dubbing is less silly... not that you will not hear some line that doesn't make sense

Bobby Rhodes, Lino Salemme and Eliana Miglio are back playing different characters. This is also the first movie of Asia Argento.

Oh, there a silly cute little demon (gremlin) too

Really you can't have a bad time with this film and the first one... too bad the third one is not related to the others.
