My Thoughts:
After the way season 1 ended... I couldn't wait to start season 2. I started the disc yesterday evening... and I just couldn't stop watching until I watched all five episodes on the disc last night. I am really getting hooked on this series! I was a little worried going into this show about all the comparison to Twilight that has been made. And yes, there is some comparisons that can be made here. But it is also so much more then that. And the is no sparkle the way there is with Twilight... one of my major complaints about the series of movies. Seriously, this is a teen drama that can get heavy at times... but it also has a storyline that can easily draw you in. I would say give it a chance... though it does take a handful of episodes to start to get into it. All I can say is I gave the series a chance... now I am glad I did.

Weekend Catch-Up
Finally back to borrowing my daughter's laptop while she is at school. It was a long weekend for me! I got a nice selection watched this past weekend... but I also watched a little of other things as well... so it isn't as much as it should have been.
Movies:
The Cabin in the Woods
- Enjoyed this one Quite a bit. Watched it twice... with and without the commentary. 4.5/5
Mega Piranha
- This one left me a bit flat. Wondered if I would make it through the entire movie 2/5
Wrong Turn
- Originally bought because it has Eliza Dushku... Definitely enjoyed it! 4/5
Room 33
- Low budget horror... but I enjoyed it... kept my interest through-out. 3.5/5
Wrong Turn 2: Dead End
- Good sequel... better then I was expecting from the Overview 4/5
TV Shows:
Vampire Diaries: Season 2 Disc 2
- 5 Episodes... still hooked. 4/5
Charles in Charge: Season 1: Trick or Treat
- A sitcom I enjoyed... but not that strong of a Halloween episode. 3.5/5
Charmed: Season 3: All Halliwell's Eve
- One of my favorite series... one of my favorite Halloween episodes. 4.5/5
Vampire Diaries: Season 2 Disc 3
- Another 5 episodes 4/5
True Blood: Season 1 Disc 3
- 3 more episodes... Almost done the first awesome season. Only 2 episodes to go. 4.5/5
The Walking Dead: Season 3 Ep. 1
- Yay! The Walking Dead is back! I found this to be an excellent start of the new season... can't wait for the next episode! 5/5

This Week
Well... I won't have access to Brittany's computer this week as much as I have here lately. This week Brittany has a 4 day weekend. Off from school Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. And she decided she will be going to her grandmother's house for the long weekend. So I will not have the computer at all for 4 days straight. Though I may be able to briefly pop on to by brothers here and there to try to keep up with what is going on around here.
While Britt is gone for the 4 day weekend I will be borrowing her Blu-ray player (It can hook to my standard CLT TV... but I know I won't get all benefits) So this coming weekend I plan to watch all my Blu-ray discs from the few Blu-ray DVD combo sets I have. Right now I have 4 titles on Blu-ray... 2 horror related 2 not. I have...
- Splice
- Red Riding Hood
- The Avengers
- The Three Stooges: The Movie
The only one of the above I have seen before is The Avengers... So tell me what you recommend... what order should I watch those 4 in?

Well you can't go wrong with "The Avengers" either .. probably best of the Marvel movies. "Red Riding Hood" is .. good but not great. Haven't seen the "The Three Stooges: The Movie". I have many of the originals and any bio tries I have seen fall short. But be sure to let us know how it is.

True Blood: The Complete First Season: Disc 5
TO LOVE IS TO BURY
Bill fulfills the tribunal's sentence. Sam and Sookie get closer while Bill is away.
YOU'LL BE THE DEATH OF ME
Sookie finds a link to the murders in Bon Temps — and ends up in the killer's crosshairs.
Stars:
Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse
Stephen Moyer as Bill Compton
Sam Trammell as Sam Merlotte
Ryan Kwanten as Jason Stackhouse
Rutina Wesley as Tara Thornton
My Thoughts:
I just completed revisiting the first season of this great series. I enjoyed it just as much this time around as I did the first time I saw it. The episodes on this disc not only brings the season 1 storyline to an end... but it also sets up the next season nicely.

Charmed: Season 8: Kill Billie: Vol. 1
After Billie freezes in fear upon seeing her demon target, The Dogan, she opens up to The Charmed Ones about a Halloween long ago when a demon kidnapped her sister.
Stars:
Alyssa Milano as Phoebe Haliwell
Rose McGowan as Paige Matthews
Holly Marie Combs as Piper Halliwelll
Kaley Cuoco as Billie
Brian Krause as Leo
My Thoughts:
Another Halloween episode of Charmed. This one I enjoyed quite a bit... but not as much as the season 2 episode. One of my favorite things about the final season of Charmed is the addition of Kaley Cuoco (
The Big Bang Theory
) to the cast. Over the years I have become a big fan of hers. In this episode Halloween was really no more then a backdrop... no real storyline involving Halloween.

The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Second Season: Disc 4
16: The House Guest
Elana, Stephan and Damon join forces with a treacherous ally: Katherine, out of the tomb and just as eager as they are to kill Klaus.
17: Know Thy Enemy
...but who's the enemy? Stunning betrayal impact lives (and a death). And at last Klaus appears, looking disturbingly familiar.
18: The Last Dance
Hippies. Peaceniks. Girl groups. JFK and Jackie. Everyone is going to the '60s dance in disguise. Including Klaus.
19: Klaus
Klaus reveals himself in his true form, commanding powers no one dreamed he possessed - powers that began with the shocking secret of his birth.
Stars:
Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert / Katherine Pierce
Paul Wesley as Stefan Salvatore
Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore
Steven R. McQueen as Jeremy Gilbert
Sara Canning as Jenna Sommers
My Thoughts:
I am so close to the end of season 2 now... and I am just as hooked on this series as I ever was! Once again this series is heavy on the teen drama. So if you can't get into that... you probably want to skip this show. But I found there is enough with the vampires, witches and werewolves that it keeps me hooked despite all the teen drama. Just 1 more disc (3 episodes) to go to finish off the second season. Hopefully I will be able to knock it out later today.

Plot:
In the dusty heart of the American southwest, innocent country boy Caleb Colton (Adrian Pasdar of MYSTERIOUS WAYS) is seduced by a beautiful girl (Jenny Wright) into joining a roving pack of vicious drifters led by the enigmatic Jesse (Lance Henriksen of THE TERMINATOR and ALIENS). But this is no ordinary band of outlaws; Caleb is now trapped in a nightmare of soulless evil that waits in the shadows, hellish mayhem that thrives on blood and absolute horror that begins NEAR DARK.
Bill Paxton (TWISTER) and Jenette Goldstein (ALIENS) co-star in this extraordinary shocker co-written and directed by Kathryn Bigelow (STRANGE DAYS) that Entertainment Weekly calls "ultrastylish, ultraviolent and altogether brilliant." This is more than simply the most ferociously original vampire movie of our generation; NEAR DARK is one of the best horror movies of all time.

My Thoughts:
This is a movie that has seemed to fly in under the radar for most people. I discovered it while I was working as a manager of the local video store.... and everyone I ever suggested it to never even heard of it. But yet of the MANY people that took a chance on this movie because of my recommendation... I don't remember ever hearing bad feedback. As far as I remember everyone enjoyed it!
One of the things I like about this movie is that even though while watching it there is no doubt in your mind this is a vampire movie... they never once use the word vampire in the movie... and you never once see a set of fangs. Another thing I like in this movie is the awesome bar fight scene. I have seen a few bar fight scenes in horror movies... and this is one of the best. Then you have the added bonus that one of the stars of this movie is Lance Henrikson.... a great genre actor.
Needless to say I was thrilled when I first heard this movie was coming out on DVD. I pre-ordered the title as soon as I was able to. And even better was the fact that the release is a 2-disc edition with a nice selection of extras. It is a film I have now watched countless times (between VHS, DVD and Cable). And is a film I try to watch every year in my October marathon. If you never seen this under-rated movie... I urge you to give it a chance... I really don't think you will be sorry.

The Brady Bunch: The Fourth Season: Fright Night
Jan (Eve Plumb) and Cindy (Susan Olsen) are jittery after spotting a "ghost" outside their window, but Marcia discovers that it's just a prank being played by the boys. So the girls retaliate by frightening the boys with some hauntings of their own in the attic. But the spooky shenanigans get out of hand when they all team up to try to scare the daylights out of Alice!
Stars:
Robert Reed as Mike Brady
Florence Henderson as Carol Brady
Ann B. Davis as Alice
Maureen McCormick as Marcia
Eve Plumb as Jan
My Thoughts:
As far as I know, this is the only Halloween episode of
The Brady Bunch
. Halloween isn't even mentioned in the episode. It is just a storyline of the kids having some spooky fun scaring each other. This isn't what I would call a favorite sitcom of mine. But it has grown on me. I am able to enjoy it.

Plot:
Legendary producer/director Dan Curtis (Dark Shadows, The Night Stalker) teams up with writers Richard Matheson (I Am Legend, The Twilight Zone) and William F. Nolan (Logan's Run, Burnt Offerings) to present three tales of horrific suspense in this made-for-television anthology that also showcases the tremendous acting talent of Karen Black (House of 1,000 Corpses, Easy Rider), who plays four distinct roles. In "Julie," an aggressive college student seduces and ultimately blackmails his seemingly shy English professor. In "Millicent and Therese," two polar-opposite sisters become increasingly hell-bent on the undoing of one another. And in "Amelia," a woman falls prey to a murderous Zuni fetish doll.

My Thoughts:
This is a TV movie from back in the '70s. Remembering back to when I was a manager of our local video store... this movie was in great demand. Unfortunately at the time I never got to see it myself as the store's copy disappeared and none of our distributors at the time could locate a new copy for us (this is back in the VHS days). So the first time I got to see this movie was when I first got it on DVD back in 2007. And I must say I enjoyed it very much!
The first story,
Julie
, Karen Black plays a College Professor who gets seduced and blackmailed (as the cover says). I liked how the student didn't have as much control over things as he thought he did. An enjoyable segment... but not my favorite.
The next story is
Millicent and Therese
where we have some sibling rivalry. This one, while I still enjoyed it, it wasn't as good as the first one. So this one has to be my least favorite segment of the movie.
The final story,
Amelia
, a woman falls prey to a murderous Zuni Fetish Doll. This is my favorite segment of the entire movie. It was very well done... especially for the time. And I just couldn't help but to get a kick out of that Zuni Fetish Doll. And as much as I liked that little guy... I must say the final scene is really what clinched this segment for me.
The DVD itself While good I am a little disappointed. The audio and video is just fine on my 24in standard TV. But I have a bit of a hard time with them calling this a special edition. All there is... is 2 featurettes and a commentary track. That seems to me a little slim to be calling it a special edition. But with that all said... I really enjoyed watching this movie again.

Plot:
A creepy, darkly comic celebration of the scariest night of the year from producer BRYAN SINGER (director of X-Men and Superman Returns) and writer-director MICHAEL DOUGHERTY (co-scripter of X2 and Superman Returns ). Trick 'R Treat takes the Creepshow/Tales from the Crypt approach to nefarious new depths with four interwoven tales set on Halloween night: a high school principal (DYLAN BAKER) moonlights as a vicious serial killer; the quest of a young virgin (ANNA PAQUIN) for that special someone takes a gruesome turn; a group of teens carries out a cruel prank with disastrous consequences; and a cantankerous old man (BRIAN COX) battles a mischievous trick-or-treating demon.
Extras:

Animated Short: Season's Greetings with Optional Commentary
My Thoughts:
I got this movie back in 2010 for my Halloween marathon that year. I watched (and enjoyed) it then... but for some reason never got around to watching it a second time so thought I would do so today. I always loved anthology horrors. While it is technically an anthology horror... it isn't the way I know anthologies at least. Instead of having 3 or 4 separate short stories along with a wraparound storyline... this one is done more like a regular movie with all the stories intertwined with each other. While not bad... I prefer the traditional format of an anthology. Now with that said... I did enjoy all the stories in it... even though I did have some of the stories figured out ahead of time. I liked the one with the girls finding dates. That storyline has Anna Paquin in it... who I find adorable. I have enjoyed her since I first saw her as Sookie in True Blood. I normally don't go for blondes... but in the case of Anna Paquin I think she looks better as a blonde. She is a brunette in this film. Over all I enjoyed it quite a bit. One I feel comfortable recommending.
