My point was it's a story about Al Capone, but it's not the story about Al Capone.

I'm with you Thomas .. i really enjoy this one.  I liked Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and especially Charlize Theron.  For me she can be off-putting sometimes but she was deliciously evil in this one.  Loved the overall script and visuals.  Basically a very good film

Thank you

I enjoyed it when I saw it in the theater.  Theron was wonderful as the Queen.  I just didn't think that Stewart was right for the part of Snow White.

Movies are often about "catching the bad guy", but then follow the good guys on their quest. This is the same thing. Having said that, the Capone scenes with De Niro are easily among the best scenes the film has to offer. I used to call this De Niro's "cameo period", as he played in several films with supporting roles only (this and Angel Heart come to mind).

But maybe knowing the TV series before seeing the film would have helped to keep the expectations on target.

My Review:
I hadnt seen this one in ages, and today suddenly wanted to check it out again for some reason. And it was as good as i rememberd it to be. First of, the transfer to HD is great. The picture and sound is amazing. And ofc the movie is a great and intense thriller with a great Mr.Douglas as the crazy cop. And Sharon Stone as a coldblooded killer (?) ;) I think i could watch this over and over again. Just a true masterpiece, and ofc highly recommanded!

Subtitles: English, Spanish

Plot:
Frank (Elijah Wood, The Lord of the Rings) leads a deceptively peaceful life: to the outside world, he's a withdrawn and somewhat eccentric owner of a mannequin store. When a young artist named Anna (Nora Arnezeder, Safe House) appears one day at Frank's shop and asks for his help with her new exhibition, Frank develops an obsession with her that threatens to completely destroy his already fragile psyche. Soon the streets become unsafe for any woman after dark as this newly-awakened maniac begins to stalk and kill. My Review:
Uhm, that was just weird.. I actually bought this movie because of Elijah Wood as a creepy serialkiller. Havent seen him play any roles like that before. But the whole thing was just weird. The whole movie was filmed POV style from 'Elijah Wood's POV' not like a handheld camera like the Paranormal movies' just plain POV. I dont understand why they did that? Didnt work. And the story was weak. And they could have done so much more to make this horror movie a real good one. IMHO they failed. Keep away from this one!

I liked the trailer for The Call. After your review I may try to catch it on iTunes, I think I can rent it here in Taiwan for the equivalent of 2 Euro.

Quite like the original Maniac and ended up liking this remake more than I expected. For the story, I guess it helps to know the original maybe. For the POV, I know that going in so it wasn't a surprise and I actually thought they did that quite well.

Hm, for Maniac i havent seen the original. If it is anything like the remake i'm not sure i want to check it out. I guess i expected something like Maniac Cop (dont have any reason why i did) But it was interesting to see Elijah Wood as the bad guy. Not often for him.
And for 'The Call' check it out. Its worth your while ;)

Well, the original Maniac is from 1980 and features a great performance by Joe Spinell portraying the title character. It feels much slower in it's pace and has a few (less than the new film) standout gore moments created by a young Tom Savini. If 80s horror films are your cup of tea, I'd suggest to check it out.
