Topic: I don't get it... How stupid is the school system around here!?!

Here recently Brittany has been reading the book Angela's Ashes in school. This morning I had to sign a form allowing her to see the movie... because it is an R rated movie and they need permission from the parents.

So far no problem. Makes sense. I of course sign it for her. I admit I didn't read the paper as she told me what it is and I can more then easily trust her. But then Britt points out something that really has me scratching my head!...

I have signed a form allowing her to see an R rated movie (Brittany is 16 BTW). But what are they doing? Even with all the parents having to sign a release for the kids to see it... they are skipping all the parts that makes it an R rated movie!

So my question is what is the point of having us sign for them to see it... if they aren't actually going to see it anyway!?! Can anyone out there explain this to me? Am I the one that is out there... or does this sound a bit nuts to you as well?

Yes that sound kind of ridiculous to me. I don't even understand the reason why they skip the R rated part since, unless I'm wrong, R in the US means that you need an adult with you to see it (if you give the ok it sound like the same to me). I guess that was quite a waste of time for Brittany and the other young adult (common at 16 we are young adults...) to see a film this way.

When I think that when I was at the elementary school the school shown us a film with bare breast... But after the third time they stop the projection

Anyway in place of this we played two hours or so outside and at 10 years old it was way more fun to do that than watching naked girls

Like some said at Invelos... sounds like they were covering their own butts. I just think the signed papers would have been enough to do that!

In that case the best would have been to not show it and suggest to the students to watch the film with their parents at home. Even if watching a film with our parents when we are 16 years old isn't that exciting for most

This is true. Though I am one of the lucky ones. Brittany likes to watch movies with me.

The whole thing becomes even more absurd when you take into consideration that no one from school asked for your consent to reading the novel the film is based on.

Who Knows Jon... I just double checked filmratings.com and it says...

Rated R for sexual content and some language.

No wonder, because it's "Rated R for sexual content and some language". Prude America has a problem with it, but no problem whatsoever showing violence.

When I handed in the form I told my teacher about what my father said this mourning. She didn't even try to defend herself, she just added the fact that cutting out those parts also helped with a time restraint. That makes sense, but she still didn't our question  .......

That is simple. She couldn't defend the school's actions... because it don't make any sense and she knows it.

In the Province of Quebec it is rated G so everybody can see it

They don't know you can watch a film in more than one part in the US high school? We did that often when I was at the CEGEP in french and philosophy classes.
