MOVIE / DVD INFO:

Title: Saw II (2005)

Genre: Horror
Director: Darren Lynn Bousman
Rating: 18+
Length: 1h33
Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.78:1
Audio: English
Subtitles: English / Spanish

Stars:
Tobin Bell
Shawnee Smith
Donnie Wahlberg
Erik Knudsen
Franky G

Plot:
Jigsaw is back. The briliant, disturbed mastermind returns for another round of horrifying life-or-death games. When a new murder victim is discovered with all signs of Jigsaw's hand, Detective Eric Matthews begins a full investigation and apprehends Jigsaw with little effort. But for Jigsaw, getting caught is just another part of his plan. Eight more of his victims are already fighting for their lives and now it's time for Matthews to join the game...

My Thoughts:
Good but not as good as the original was. This is mostly due to 2 factors. Firstly too many characters who aren't really develloped and are uni-dimensional from beginning to end. Secondly the M.O. is changed people aren't tested because they "disrespect their live" but for the enjoyment of the killer. Part of this is explain at the end but it wasn't a good explication for me. Last thing, who would have believed in 1988 that a NKOTB member would became an actor years later...

MOVIE / DVD INFO:

Title: Saw III (2006)

Genre: Horror
Director: Darren Lynn Bousman
Rating: 18+
Length: 1h53
Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.78:1
Audio: English
Subtitles: English / Spanish

Stars:
Tobin Bell
Shawnee Smith
Angus Macfadyen
Bahar Soomekh
Donnie Wahlberg

Plot:
Jigsaw has disappeared.

With his new apprentice Amanda (Shawnee Smith), the puppet-master behind the cruel, intricate games that have terrified a community and baffled police has once again eluded capture and vanished. While city detectives scramble to locate him, Doctor Lynn Denlon (Bahar Soomekh) and Jeff (Angus Macfadyen) are unaware that they are about to become the latest pawns on his vicious chessboard.

My Thoughts:
Looks like the criticisms I did for the previous part wasn't only in my mind. The movie cut the number of protagonists to two again a doctor and one father who did lost his son. This is for the best of course as this time we see some character development (at least for the father). The concept of forgiveness is the one used in this part and this is well done as we feel the battles the grieving father must face. Some of the game are over the top (ok most of them), but this part have the first two effects that made me feel unconfortable watching them (of course I won't describe, but I really feel the pain when Eric Matthews escaped his trap). Even better some of my criticism of the original are explain here too.

As good as the first part was, but I can't understand why a sequel (except for the monetary reasons of course).

MOVIE / DVD INFO:

Title: Saw IV (2007)

Genre: Horror
Director: Darren Lynn Bousman
Rating: NR
Length: 1h35
Video: Full Frame
Audio: English
Subtitles: English / Spanish

Stars:
Tobin Bell
Costas Mandylor
Scott Patterson
Betsy Russell
Lyriq Bent

Plot:
When Swat commander Rigg is abducted and thrust into a game, the last officer untouched by Jigsaw has but ninety minutes to overcome a series of demnted traps and save an old friend...or face the deadly consequences.

My Thoughts:
OK what the hell happened here? I don't understand nothing of what happen in this (even if I've seen the three precedent parts today). It's like 10 person play the game at the same time... If I want to be honest I can't give a rating for this one...

Pete or anyone else who did watch this one, please tell me what the movie is all about... maybe I'm stupid but I don't have a clue who play the game and who is the master of the game.

At least now I know that I must wait to get the part 5 before watching the part 6. Imagine if I've watched them in chronogical order and I'm lost what it would be if I jump one :stars:

I quite liked part 1 and put up with the sequel, but I detested part 3 and didn't bother from there. You've piqued my interest in part 4 though!

well, maybe...   No, actually, I wondered that because you liked part 3 and I'd felt it was just bogged down in the same boring routine, did they try something new with part 4 that might win me over. I really suspect not though.  :P

Jimmy... as for part 4... I really would have to watch it again. Been so long since I watched these movies!

Pete, I just checked and your review of Saw 4 is indexed. I should have remembered because you rated it a huge 4.5 which caused us to have a brief discussion about how it compared with the others...

Yeah... but since I try to keep storylines out of the reviews for the most parts (I am hugely against any type of spoilers)...that wasn't enough to remind myself of the storyline to give Jimmy an answer. :(

Not sure this is already what you are looking for; it's been a while since I have last seen it but I always kind of liked this idea:

BTW, I am with Pete on this. I often forget plot details even more quickly than I like, especially the endings. Of course, this makes for awkward second viewings, as memory will usually flush in while seeing it :slaphead:
