If I'm not mistaken, the Temple of Mara is on your left, off of the main business center in Riften when coming from the city doors. There are some steps before the door. If you've found the entrance to the Thieves' Guild, it is right above it (I mean the "back" entrance from the cemetary, not the one from the sewers).

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Temple_of_Mara

---

I'm currently doing the College of Winterhold quest line (mages) and it's laughably easy as an assassin! The whole quest line is tailored for Mages (obviously), so it's incredibly easy for me to sneak up to every enemy and just assassinate them. Just to give you an idea, the toughest enemy so far in that quest line were two albino frostbite spiders! (took 2 sneaking arrows to kill them instead of one!)

Oh and Sneak at 90 is crazy powerful! At the end of one dungeon, the boss is behind a door and starts talking to you just as you enter. Conversation ends combat starts. She summons two flame atronachs, so I was a bit concerned as I'm quite squishy and fireballs really hurt. But do I notice? They're not doing anything! I am back in sneak! Didn't have to move or do anything - the eye just closed right there! So I took out my trusty Elven Bow and two arrows later, they were all dead.

I started the Winterhold quests but got distracted; go figure  I thinki did the early quest where you follow the one Mage to the dungeon for artifact collecting. It was a fun quest, but I haven't continued beyond that.

I noticed Sneak getting good around 70. I once found myself behind an enemy I hadn't seen, almost bumping into him. Then my two daggers took him down  Or during my firt quest for the Guild of Thieves (seriously tailored for sneaking!) where I sneaked passed a guard looking at me! He got up, literally walked by me and sat down again after a minute. Then I continued right under his nose  (in the mission you are supposed not to kill anyone...)

I play as a witching archer, basically, with lots of sneaking going on. Although I mostly still prefer the bow over the up close approach.

Just mastered Sneak! I'm now level 100 in Sneak .. I still have a few perks to get in Sneak, but I'm not sure I actually want them.. There's so many other perks that seem more useful than those higher sneak perks. We'll see..

Now I'm trying to get Illusion higher, but even now at level 60 with a few perk, I can cast Calm on most enemies and just casually walk up to them to kill them .. and I still don't have the x30 gloves! hehehe ;)

I'll say it right here: Assassin completely destroys the game balance.

I am at 81 now myself. It's getting more and more efficient, if people are busy I just walk them. I agree, some of the later perks don't seem all that great. I forgot if I took the one to avoid triggering pressure plates, but anything beyond that seems less useful than other stuff I can take (Arching, Destruction...)

What are those gloves...? The bracers the guy in the video mentioned, or another item than can be found?

So basically only dragons pose a serious threat to you at this point?

How about Lydia or other followers. Trouble seems to be that their sneak doesn't level up, they are always found out early :( Of course, once she starts fighting I can still get my bonus strike in, since I am still hidden to the enemy.

My game is really acting up now. I had to restart a certain section three times last night because it kept freezing :weep: Path 1.4 for PS3 can't come too soon.

I keep intending to return to Skyrim, but after managing to lose someone ("I'll show you how to get out of the village!",  she said,  and then didn't bloody wait for me,  the silly cow) I stopped off in Arkham City and the traffic is a bitch. I can't find the road back to Skyrim for the time being...

I ended up taking the light foot and roll perks in sneak .. both are quite underwhelming! I haven't triggered a pressure plate in forever - you can actually see them from miles away if you pay attention, and being an assassin well duh! - and roll is just that, a roll. What's the point? I can close the gap running in about 1 second more than a roll, and they still don't detect me. I'll agree though that the crouch to stop combat would come in handy here and there, but it's not worth the other prereq perks to get it.

Now, Archery at 100 with Paralyze? I-N-S-A-N-E!!

Dark Brotherhood "Shrouded Armor". You get it for either joining the DB or
(click to show/hide)
. The boots give you constant "muffle" effect, the gloves give 2x backstab damage (which stacks with the 15x perk for total 30x), the headgear gives +20% bow damage - as if assassins weren't overpowered already ;)

So basically only dragons pose a serious threat to you at this point?

Not even dragons pose that much of a threat anymore (well, unless they get physical). I've level alchemy some, and I can make Fire and Frost resist potions that are pretty powerful, so I can resist a talking dragon for a while .. until it moves in and tries to bite me.

Bears and Trolls used to be a much bigger threat than dragons, but now I can just cast Calm and I'm scots free.

How about Lydia or other followers. Trouble seems to be that their sneak doesn't level up, they are always found out early :( Of course, once she starts fighting I can still get my bonus strike in, since I am still hidden to the enemy.

I don't use followers much anymore. Basically, I get Lydia to follow me around, but when I enter a dungeon, I tell her to wait for me at entrance then clear out the dungeon alone. I basically use her as a pack mule (especially with the little glitch I found - unlimited carrying capacity FTW!) and as canon fodder when a dragon / dragon priest attacks.

Hope that new patch will fix it for you. I'd hate to hear from you that you had to abandon the game because it became unplayable..

How close are you to completing the "main story"? Have you chosen a side in the Empire vs Stormcloak conflict?

To be fair, Arkham Asylum is quite addictive as well. I still have some Riddler stuff to do (mostly only to get few more trophies) but luckily finished the story before Skyrim came out. Maybe I should just tell you the ending so you can move on  Well, in fact, the story was not that special to me, but the game is just fun to play! While I never liked the combat that much, as I mentioned before, the stealth section were very enjoyable.

The Sneak tree has two sides. I'll have to chack again what's on the right, maybe that will be more usefull than those on the left. I hadn't taken the pressure plates thing yet; that and the rolling thing don'r interest me either. But the running perk as well as the combat stop would be interesting.

My Fire spell deals with them quite alright so far.

Yeah, I do the same, especially since Lyfia always rushes into battle too easily. You may try to be an assassin, but she'll have noe of that.

I heard about the glitch, even saw it described somewhere, but forgot again, so haven't used it yet.

I was thinking to upgrade the Pickpocketing tree a little bit, to get the higher carrying capacity for myself.

That reminds me, it is highly annying to have all these items in my inventory that are quest related, so they cannot been removed. :( E.g., I started collecting the strange gems(?), which is 24 at 0.5 each, so until I can get rid of them I'll carry around up to 11 just with those useless things!

And talking about useless(?) stuff. What are the dragon bones and scales good for? I always carry them to he forge etc. but they never seem to be available to be used with something.

Well, patch 1.3 is only now being released, but I think the fixes are not for the lag stuff. 1.4 is supposedly in the works, with many PS3 fixes. Yesterday was fine, only froze twice. It's not quite as bad as New vegas yet, and I played that all the way to the end.

There is a story being told...? Seriously though, I am not entirely sure. I mentioned before how I abondoned the mage college, currently working on the thieves' quests. Yesterday I accidentally joined the Imperials, not realizing it was a definitive choice of sorts. haven't even done much for Ulfric yet, so I don't have the invitiation to join them yet.

Once I join, how much further to the end would it be? Is it a definitve end, like Fallout 3 or New Vegas, or can we just move on this time.

Never underestimate the power of Alchemy and a well placed poisioned arrow or sword hit ;)

Well, as you describe it, they have contacted you ;) I think you have to sleep in your home or something any inn, and then they abduct you and the DB quests start. I'm actually on my way to Windhelm now to start the DB quest line.

Infinite pack mule takes care of that ;) But yeah, I know what you mean. You should be able to drop it in an owned chest until you find the person for the item, and then just have to go fetch it from the chest. I've a few of those special gem, and some of the instrument for the bard's guild, but I haven't started either quest! and that's not counting the [whatever-gem] dragon claw that I have stuck in my inventory saying it is "quest related" yet i've done the the quest! Oh well..

They're completely useless ... until you level up smithing enough to be able to make Dragon Armor! So if you are not leveling smithing at all, you can just sell them. Actually, even if you are leveling smithing and plan on making some dragon armor, you can still sell them. After all, dragons are infinite. just go dragon hunting when you need them. (and they fetch a pretty good price with general goods traders)

Remember how we were talking about leveling up wrong and painting yourself in a corner by raising "useless" skill making the game way harder than it should be?

I have those, not at last based on your reommendations. Assassin's Blade is great for those über-bosses, provided the let you sneak up and don't magically notice you few meters away.

Ever since I turned werewolf and don't get sleeping bonuses I don't sleep anymore. :slaphead: I 'll try it at the next chance. I am wrapping up the Azura's Star quest, which is quite challenging to say the least.

This is why I started to work on my back catalog, as I xperienced the same. Now I am trying to get rid of some if ties older quests/items.

I suppose that will be Heavy Armor... I am tiring to be a Light Armor guy, so the dragon armor would probably just something I can sell.

I've done the Windcaller quest, quite enjoyable I thought. So it would appear you are quite a vi behind me, actually, as far as story quests are concerned.

But in general we are all the same, quickly switching to side quests at every opportunity

There's two types of dragon armor. Dragonbone makes heavy. Dragonscale makes light ;)

I created a new character just for kicks and tried the unarmed thing. Got bored before I even left the first cave! Back to my Assassin! Much more fun ;)

I noticed last night that ranged attacks with the bow can be trouble with high level enemies, especially if they are self healing mages. The assassin approach is so much better then. I can't wait to get to Sneak 100 from my current 85.

When I stopped playing last night I had just started I fight with three Mage types, heavily firing ice and fire at me. Not sure yet how I'll get out of that :o may have to level up some more first, maybe with the Dark Brotherhood :hmmmm: I watched a video of that fight and the guy who made that seemed to stack protective potions...?

Now that my Sneak is at 100, I find I barely if ever use my bow. I can sneak up to anyone undetected, and if I can get the invisibility spell from Illusion, I'll be unbeatable even against groups! ;)

You know, I read a bit about the Dark Brotherhood quests .. that line is insane for assassins! I should've done it much earlier! You get a perfect set of armor tailored for sneaky assassin - and that looks really cool! you get a horse that can't be killed! i mean, it's the holy grail of quest lines! ;)

So it's good I started the DB quest line this weekend... I am at the point where I am supposed to listen a little closer ;) A horse would be cool;can you believe I haven't used a horse yet at all...? Well, I tried it once, riding it for 100m, but since it was stolen and they came after me I actually gave it back :-[ But isn't Lydia the problem then, that she cannot use a horse herself...? Can the horse carry stuff at least?

I like using my bow, but against tougher enemies it can be a bit tedious. But hide and seek is fun at times. I know the recipe for Invisibilty potion now, which might be the equivalent to the spell fore those who don't invest in Illusion at all. So far the potion I make lasts for 24 seconds.

I didn't pay enough attention to my Destruction for a while, so that feels currently a bit nerfed. Will have to use that as much as I can in the next time, as I quite like that as an alternative in battle.
