Recommendations wanted
« on: December 28, 2010, 06:24:13 PM »
As you may have noticed, I am currently in a roll watching Asian romantic movies.
Can anyone recommend me further Asian romantic comedies or dramas (preferably Japanese or Korean)?

Thanks, Emma. It is exactly the kind of movie I am looking for. Though I have seen and reviewed already. You must have missed it.

How about Shinobi? It's romance and martial arts (think Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, but with darker ninja visuals).

Thanks, but I also have seen this one already
I had bought it because it stars Yukie Nakama, who is the lead actress in the live-action Gokusen TV series and movie (which I revisited this month).

Then I suggest Bichunmoo.

Thanks. I have put it on my wishlist. There is a Blu-ray available in Germany. Amazon recommended me also "Blood & Flowers" and "Sword with no Name" after I had put it on my wishlist. Does anyone know these?

I would recommend "Blood & Bones",  "Hana-bi" and "Shiri"!

As chance would have it, I have just now ordered "Shiri" after stumbling across it while browsing Amazon.de. "Hana-bi" I saw at the last AsiaFilmFest. It was a good movie but not something I have to own on DVD. Here my review.

Other Asian movies I just ordered:
Bin-jip
My Wife Is a Gangster
Nobody Knows

What about a newer Hong Kong production with Jackie Chan: "San suk si gin" (German title: "Stadt der Gewalt")
Not a typical Chan movie but more a drama IMHO!

I am not sure if it is something for me. At the last FantasyFilmFest I saw a newer Hong Kong production with Jackie Chan and found it boring. Also I try to avoid Hong Kong movies. Just a personal preference, but I am more used to the Japanese and Korean language than Cantonese and Mandarin. I cannot seem to enjoy them as much.

No idea about Blood & Flowers amazon UK only list the German Blu but I have Sword with no Name in my TBW pile. I will move that up and watch it within the next couple of days.
