First Snow of the Season...
« on: December 17, 2010, 01:13:07 AM »
We got a couple inches out there (which is a lot for around here).... and what happens? My sister-in-law gets into a car accident. From what we have been able to find out it was the other driver's fault... but it totaled her car... luckily she seems to be OK with only minor injuries... but she is still at the hospital and they are running tests as I type this.

It is always something to worry about! I so hate this time of the year!

I'm so sorry to hear about her accident Pete. Keep us updated on how she is doing. Accidents are nasty things and if the car is totaled it sounds as though it were pretty bad.

Sorry to hear about the accident, I've heard that snow can be hard to drive in. Not that I'd know haha, I've only ever seen it once and that was in the gutters on the streets of Russia. I've never seen it in Australia.

Sorry to hear that Pete. I have never understood why people wait and wait and wait before installing their winter tire, but it's maybe because the winter usually happens in october where I live (but like everywhere else the temperature is weird this year... 5 days ago it was raining and now we have snow everywhere).

Hope the other driver was insure (Is it obligatory also in the USA?) and that she will be ok.

Thanks... We haven't heard anything more... we are hoping it will just be a test and release type thing... but then again it wouldn't hurt for her to spend the night just to be on the safe side.

From what we were told the car was really smashed up and she was trapped inside.  They had to take the "Jaws of Life" and tear off the door and roof of the car to get her out.

OMG.  I hope she is ok.

Some people are idiots when it comes to driving in the winter.

This morning (sorry, I didn't have my camera with me) I had to shovel 8 inches of snow off my car and driving on my small town streets was "interesting".

I just talked to my brother... my sis-in-law will be fine. All tests came out good... and she was just treated and released last night. Though I am sure she will be feeling it big time this morning.

Pete, I was sorry to hear about your sister-in-law's accident...but was definitely glad to hear she only sustained very minor injuries.  We tend to get a pretty good amount of snow here in West Virginia.  I've not heard of any major weather-related accidents yet, though.

Thanks... As I said... I am sure she is feeling it this morning. But of course she is worrying more about her car then she is herself. No matter how much we tell her the car is just a thing (granted an important thing... but still just a thing)... it could have been a lot worse.

School closed today do to yesterday's snow. So Britt got to start her Christmas vacation early. She now don't return to school for just over 2 weeks. So I let her sleep in today. She don't even know that her aunt is OK yet as far as I know (She was still up when I went to bed last night).

I'm glad to hear she is home from the hospital. Please tell her to take care - it is not unusual for the body to take a few days, or even years, to feel the full effects of such trauma.
