Take Wonderfalls for example... they ordered (and made) 13 episodes. And they cancel the series after the 4th episode! So what do we get? a DVD Set with all 13 episodes (advertising 9 Unaired episodes)... and turns out to be a very entertaining series that should have lasted much longer!

The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Firefly, Wonderfalls, Tru Calling, Space: Above and Beyond.... the list is growing.

Harsh Realm and The Lone Gunmen (X-Files spin-off) was also FOX.

Oh I agree with you that they are always coming up with some great shows... but what good is that if they are not willing to give it a far chance?

Well, I consider 2 seasons (TSCC) a fair chance. And as I said recently in the Dexter review, I actually prefer shorter runs or even a cancellation over shows that go on and on. For network shows, that is even more true. Who really needs 9(?) seasons of X Files. Or 7+ seasons of 24.

Then there is Firefly. Yes Fox, misthreated the show. But what we have in the end is a short and mostly brilliant run that ends on an artistic high note. To me, the movie Serenity was already a let-down, comparatively. Who knows how much Firefly S4 would have sucked, with Marti Noxon taking over and Joss Whedon working on Dollhouse.

Interesting. Yesterday, I said pretty much the same thing: http://www.kryptonsite.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5440687&postcount=117

Great minds...   Although, I have to say that I found Smallville cringeworthy pretty much from the beginning. That 50/50 thing again.

I personally enjoy a good long series...

I enjoyed every bit of The X-Files... while not as good... I even enjoyed it after Mulder was replaced.

I enjoyed every second of Charmed... all 8 seasons! Though the gorgeous girls helps!  :drooling:

I enjoyed all 11 seasons of M*A*S*H

All 9 seasons of JAG was fun

But that don't take away from the  fact that some series does go on too long. Just like I think it was time to put an end to Smallville a season or 2 ago. To me it is a per case type thing. Some shows has what it takes to go many years... but others you wonder how it made it past the first season.

On a side note, Holly Mary Combs has a small role in Hal Hartley's Simple Men.
... and I really should get that marathon started. :bag:

Ok I just watched the last episode of this series... this will not do! Biggest cliff-hanger ever! Unfortunately this just makes me hate FOX all the more.

Karsten, you post such comments now in two threads, whcih makes me wonder whether I should get the second season at all.

How did you like the first season, in comparison? I enjoyed the first season a lot, would I be more likely to ewnjoy season 2 in that case?

I'm not Karsten, but I have seen both seasons now. As I wrote in my non-spoilery review, the show got much better in its second season.

What you call a cliffhanger IMHO works well as a season (or series) ending. I'm not sure I really like it as a starting point for a new season and I can see it actually be a reason for the cancellation. On the other hand, I was sceptic before each season of TSCC, so maybe Friedman & Co would have proven me wrong a third time.

They will never have a chance to prove you wrong either. Not now, and it looks like Dollhouse is heading in the same direction.
