SO SO SORRY! For the pain.  I myself have suffered a Fractured L1/L2 Vertebrae and am on very powerful pain killers and muscle relaxers.  I find a comfy chair and good movie to distract my mind and body are almost as good as the best pain killers though.

Good Luck and Good Thoughts going your way.

Tim

Sorry you're in pain Emma. No good stories here to help you feel better. I do hope you feel better soon though. I will say it's much better to hurt yourself at your age then mine. The older you get the longer it takes to heal (if ever).

I had an interesting one years ago. Lifted a box wrong, up above my head, trying to make a safe stack of 7 laser printers an awesome stack of 8! I felt two pops in my neck and thought nothing of it. But over the coming days, I was getting pins and needles in my right arm and eventually it went numb. Doc found a trapped nerve and literally got me in a head lock to pop them back! All was fine, I thought.

However, fitting in with what Kathy said, I'd torn the shoulder muscle and because it's always moving, it couldn't heal. Rest it long enough, it would heal, but would have no movement into it felt like it ripped again. :-[ Over the next year or so, my arm gradually got weaker and weaker, until it became painful. I went to an Osteopath who tried  massage and made it worse. I went back, and she... did nothing. Well it felt like nothing... she just kept holding my arm in different places.

I thought I was being ripped off until it worked! She said my brain had basically "forgotten" I had an arm and wasn't bothering to signal it properly. All she needed to do was wake up the nerves. This is a "boy" thing apparently as it tends to only happen to males in that respect.

Since then I always have an occasional ache or something sets it off, but I find Chinese Balls help. Stop sniggering. :redcard: They are metal balls with chimes inside and you just roll them around in your hand and the chimes sort of tap your palm. Works like acupuncture apparently.

It would be too easy to respond to this one.  :tease:

So I went to the doctors and after some, examining and making me lift my arms up and down and lean against walls and all sorts of things. including being told I have bad posture the doctor comes out with "...I think this is possibly the worst set of strained muscles I have ever seen...WHAT DID YOU LIFT?"

So, he put a couple of those tubular bandages on my arms and gave me a persecution for some co-codamol, he said if the swelling doesn't go down by Monday to go to the hospital... and to try putting a heat pack on them for 10 minutes.

I sent you a pm but I see you answered my question. I'm not surprised at the diagnosis. Once you injured yourself, instead of resting, you most likely did further damage by using that area at work. I hope the medications make it more tolerable. You can do the alternative pain relief strategies I outlined to help you in your recovery.

You can help your body to heal. The Cleveland Clinic outlines the specific nutritional needs that will optimal wound healing. If you consume these things, they will give gives your body the tools it needs to repair injuries.

The most important things you can do for yourself is to increase your consumption of protein, vitamin A, vitamin C and zinc. Green tea with honey is also used by many as a way to stay healthy and as a healing treatment.

Here is an article I found that goes into greater detail and outlines the nutritional guidelines that will speed your recovery:

http://my.clevelandclinic.org/healthy_living/nutrition/hic_nutrition_guidelines_to_improve_wound_healing.aspx

Edit: One other thought, some people claim that a warm glass of milk helps sleep. You might also call your pharmacist and see if you can take a combination of acetaminophen and diphenhydramine (tylenol pm or the like) at bedtime to help you sleep. You need to find out if you need to wait, and how long, to take the tylenol pm after your pain pill.

I am sorry, and don't mean it badly, but then don't.  Watch movies! Rest your arm!

If you must, use a recodring device to save your reviews for later.

I currently have a somewhat painful eye infection, it's gross, I'm pretty sure I look like something out of Dawn of the Dead right now. The last two mornings I have woken up only to discover that I could no longer open my left eye of my own free will as the eyelids had sealed themselves overnight. A very strange experience that was, I eventually pried them open, and while it was gross, and slightly painful it never escaped me how funny the whole situation was.
