I can't believe how badly Portugal played today. This isn't looking good.

Glad to see Uruguay beat South Africa. I hope South Africa is eliminated in the first round, then everyone can stick their vuvuzela in their arse and fart out taps.  ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the U.S. beats Algeria and England doesn't beat Slovenia by 2 goals, England is out.

What's so amusing? Algeria is the weakest of the 4 teams, and England can't seem to find the net so far.

Let's face it, if it weren't for the referee's phantom call, USA wins that game today and England would be up shit's creek without a paddle.

That's what's so amusing! I don't like football and I live in a country that lives and breathes it.

In my lifetime, I've seen England teams win the Rugby and the Ashes. We rule the world by a considerable margin in rowing and other sailing events. More recently at the Olympics our athletes showed the rest of the world just how a bike should be ridden too. We have real, viable talent.

But does anyone talk about these achievements? Do they bollocks. Footie, footie, footie, 24/7. We're a footballing nation apparently and it digs deep into our social history. The real joke is though... our team are spectacularly shit! I find that irony just hilarious.

Apparently the English Premiership is one of the most respected leagues in the world. We can boast Beckham's and Rooney's and again, apparently, they are about as good as footballers can get. But do we ever win anything?

Not a bloody sausage.

And it pisses me off that everyone suddenly remembers poor old St. George and plasters the flag across everything so much that it becomes tacky and cheap. Yet try and fly the flag (cross or Union) when England aren't playing football and it's considered offensive and gets removed.

Can you imagine the USA widely taking the view that flying the national flag is offensive and should be banned? Well that's how it is in England, unless 11 useless clapped out overpaid pansies are running around wheezing.

We don't deserve to go through. This is the worst I've seen them play in a long time and they've had some truly bad periods.

You mean, minus the America's Cup, don't you?

Nah, that doesn't count!  ;) We just send the reserves to that to show willing...   I mean Olympic level, covering multiple disciplines.

I really don't care about football, I don't even really know how to play (besides the basics) and even I can say that the last game sucked. Whats the point?

as for St George flags, my neighbours have there flag up all the time and its not taken down.... Is it offensive to be proud of your country? the UK has gone mad, although I don't think the Sun newspaper helps, it fuels the fire by posting crap like "You can Wear England shirts in London city centre"

The world has gone mad.

Even Ice Hockey.... my city, Coventry our Ice Hockey team is the most successful Ice Hockey team in the UK, winning 7 major trophies in the last 5 years.... Football sucks, they play badly because they get paid so much they don't need to care. Pay them less, tell them to suck it up and get over it... and if they leave, who cares... we can find other players.
