Nothing in Common
Because of his talent, charm and wisecracking sense of humor, David Basner (Tom Hanks) is a self-made man on the fast track. He loves his job, his bank account is healthy, and women find him irresistible. Then his father Max (Jackie Gleason, in his final film performance) calls to give David the news that he and David's mother Lorraine (Eva Marie Saint) are calling it quits after 35 years. Now, besides the pressures of his own busy life, David has the new responsibilities of taking care of his crotchety dad and emotionally supporting his mother. Through these experiences, David gains a new understanding and appreciation of his parents, with whom he thought he had nothing in common.

NOTHING IN COMMON is a funny, heart-warming film that struck a chord with audiences (who made it a hit) and showcases the charismatic performance of a young Tom Hanks on his way to Oscar®-winning* superstardom (1993 Best Actor, Philadelphia; 1994 Best Actor, Forrest Gump).
Joe Somebody
Joe Scheffer (funnyman Tim Allen - Galaxy Quest, The Santa Clause) is a mild-mannered single dad who's overworked and underappreciated at the office.  But when the company bully knocks him down in front of his daughter, the Nobody decides to become Joe Somebody - and kick some butt! With hilariously helpful training from a kung-foolish martial arts pro (Jim Belushi), Joe just might score a knockout in this irresistible family comedy filled with "non-stop laughs"! (Wireless Magazine)

Always
Steven Spielberg directs this heartwarming romantic adventure USA Today calls a “winner.” Pete Sandrich (Richard Dreyfuss) is a legendary pilot with a passion for daredevil fire fighting. However Dorinda (Holly Hunter), the woman he loves, and Al (John Goodman), Pete’s best friend, know that legends can’t take risks forever.

After sacrificing himself to save Al, the ace pilot faces his most challenging mission: helping Dorinda move on with her life.

Breathtaking cinematography and exhilarating aerial choreography highlight this compelling adventure that co-stars Brad Johnson and features a special appearance by Audrey Hepburn.
Red

With his identity compromised, Frank reassembles his old team Joe (Freeman), Marvin (Malkovich) and Victoria (Mirren) and sets out to prove that they still have a few tricks up their sleeves. Stand back and watch the bullets fly in this explosive action-comedy that critics call "A rip-roaring good time". (Kevin Steincross, Fox-TV).
Van Helsing
Legendary monster hunter Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) is summoned to mysterious Transylvania on a mission that will thrust him into a sweeping battle against the forces of darkness! With non-stop action and electrifying special effects, VAN HELSING is an adrenaline-powered motion picture event Roger Ebert calls "Spectacular!"
Wanted

Enter sizzling-hot Fox (Angelina Jolie), who crashes into his life and introduces him to the Fraternity, a secret society of assassins, led by the enigmatic Sloan (Morgan Freeman). Seems Wes's long-lost father was killed while working for the Fraternity and Wes has been selected to target the rogue member who murdered him. But before he can complete his assignment, Wes must first uncover the dark secrets behind the Fraternity in order to determine his own destiny.
Laurel Canyon
Academy Award® winner Frances McDormand ('Almost Famous', 'Fargo') stars in the sexy and witty story of a hard-living, free-thinking, rock-and-roll record producer who finds herself unexpectedly sharing a house with her straight-laced son and his super-conservative bride-to-be. Written and directed by Lisa Cholodenko (award-winning director of 'High Art') and also starring Christian Bale ('American Psycho'), Kate Beckinsale ('Pearl Harbor'), Natascha McElhene ('Solaris') and Alessandro Nivola ('Jurassic Park III').
Hook
A high-flying adventure from the magic of Steven Spielberg, HOOK stars Robin Williams as a grown-up Peter Pan and Dustin Hoffman as the infamous Captain Hook.

Joining the fun is Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell, Bob Hoskins as the pirate Smee, and Maggie Smith as Granny Wendy Darling, who must convince the middle-aged lawyer Peter Banning that he was once the legendary Peter Pan. And so the adventure begins anew, with Peter off to Neverland to save his two children from Captain Hook. Along the way, he rediscovers the power of imagination, friendship, and magic. A classic tale updated for children of all ages, HOOK, nominated for five 1991 Academy Awards® including Best Visual Effects, is "a 10. A film that will entertain generations, generations from now." (Gary Franklin KABC-TV)
The Man from Laramie
An intensely satisfying drama of rugged primitive justice, THE MAN FROM LARAMIE marked the final, and finest, collaboration of one of the most important teams in Western films: director Anthony Mann and star Jimmy Stewart. Together this perfectly-matched pair provided audiences with eight classic pictures, including Winchester '73 and Stategic Air Command.

Under Mann's superb direction, Stewart departs from his well-loved "ordinary hero" role and gives a riveting performance as a resolute vigilante obsessed with finding the man responsible for his brother's death. Among the suspects are an arrogant cattle baron (Donald Crisp), his sadistic son (Alex Nicol) and his ranch foreman (Arthur Kennedy, in the best performance of his career). One explosive confrontation, in which Stewart is dragged by a wild horse and shot in the hand at close range, is one of movie history's most memorable sequences. Among the first Western's filmed in CinemaScope, THE MAN FROM LARAMIE uses the wide-screen technology to emphasize the scope and power of this harrowing action-drama, making it a perfect example of the Western as America's epic art form.
Desperado
He came back to settle the score with someone. Anyone. EVERYONE.

Director Robert Rodriguez follows up his legendary debut film, El Mariachi, with this sexy sequel about a mysterious guitar player searching for vengeance against the men who murdered his girlfriend. A stylish shoot-em-up film described as a south-of-the-border Pulp Fiction.
Salt
Evelyn Salt, a trusted and loyal CIA operative, goes on the run when a Russian defector convinces her superiors that she's a double agent sent to assassinate the President of the United States. As the intense manhunt heats up, Salt uses all her skills as a covert operative to elude capture and uncovers a secret so powerful it could change the course of world history. Angelina Jolie stars in this action-packed thriller that will keep you guessing until the end.
The Spitfire Grill
Percy Talbott (Alison Elliott) has had few choices in her twentysomething life, but she'll make the most of this one. She's chosen Gilead, Maine, as her new home. The town's Spitfire Grill has offered her a second chance. It's not just the burnt toast at the diner, owned by feisty Hannah (Academy Award winner Ellen Burstyn), that has folks wondering about Percy. It's that she's been in prison the past five years.

This 1996 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award winner embraces viewers with its tender spirit. Moving performances, Lee David Zlotoff's sensitive script and direction and the glowing New England landscape coalesce into a movie of genuine and generous feeling. Redemption is served at 'The Spitfire Grill'.
Crossing Delancy
Single, attractive Isabelle ("Izzy") Grossman has a rent-controlled uptown apartment and a blooming career in publishing. She also has Bubbie, a tradition-minded grandmother who's hired a matchmaker to find a husband for Izzy. There's already a prospect: the corner pickle seller?!?

Amy Irving as Izzy is the radiant center of this witty charmer, and her co-stars strike comic sparks galore as old-world ways rub against new-world woes: Peter Riegert as the pickle man, Jeroen Krabbe as his rival and Sylvia Miles as the matchmaker. A veteran stage performer, 74-year-old Reizl Bozyk is an ideal Bubbie, blithely snapping off one-liners and stealing scenes in "a joy of a comedy" (Jay Carr, The Boston Globe).
The Replacements
Underdogs become top dogs in this fun-filled, rough-and-fumble comedy that's "the best football movie of the last few years" (Larry Stewart, Los Angles Times). Keanu Reeves plays Shane Falco, a washed-out all-American QB who guides a team of misfits assembled by veteran coach Jimmy McGinty (Gene Hackman) to replace striking pro players. A motor-mouth receiver (Orlando Jones), a merciless linebacker (Jon Favreau), a nicotine-wired kicker (Rhys Ifans) and more line up alongside Falco for a drive to the playoffs. For sultry support, there's cheerleader Annabelle Farrell (Brooke Langton) and her ex-stripper squad. "Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory lasts forever," Falco tells his team. It's a game plan that works to perfection.
Eagle Eye
Prepare for a rollercoaster ride of mind-blowing action in this Blu-ray Special Edition complete with high-octane special features, including an alternate ending and much more!

Executive Producer Steven Spielberg delivers the ultimate race-against-time thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat! Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) and Michelle Monaghan (Mission: Impossible III) star as strangers ripped from their ordinary lives when they are "activated" as part or a high-tech assassination plot. Through blistering chases and shocking twists they try to escape – but where do you go when the enemy is everywhere?
The Time Machine
The Time Machine explodes with pulse-pounding action in a visually stunning film the critics are calling "a thrilling, heart-stopping adventure."*

Desperate to alter the course of time, a visionary scientist invents a revolutionary machine that propels him 800,000 years into the future. There he discovers that humans have evolved into two groups -- the hunters and the hunted. Now he must fight to save himself, and all of mankind, in a final desperate battle.

This spectacular thrill ride of a movie stars Guy Pearce, Orlando Jones and Academy Award® winner Jeremy Irons† in a remarkable film featuring "dazzling effects that will wow you."**

*Bill Bregoli, Westwood One Radio.
**Neil Rosen, NY1.
†1990 Best Actor, Reversal of Fortune.
Six Days Seven Nights
Big-screen favorite Harrison Ford stars in this nonstop adventure hit about a dream vacation that turns into a hilarious tropical nightmare! A gruff, rough-hewn cargo pilot living in the islands, Quinn Harris (Ford) hates tourists...though he's not above making a fast buck from a sharp-tongued New Yorker, Robin Monroe (sexy Anne Heche – Volcano, Wag The Dog), when she's desperate for a quick flight to Tahiti! But this already uneasy relationship suddenly takes a nosedive when his weather-beaten old plane is forced down in a storm! Now, stranded together on a deserted isle, Quinn and Robin quickly discover all the perils of paradise. As this mismatched pair find themselves facing danger at every turn, you're sure to find their misfortunes fueling one of Hollywood's most entertaining action-comedy hits in years!
Mumford
From Academy Award®-nominated writer/director* Lawrence Kasdan (Body Heat, The Big Chill) comes this endearing romantic comedy.  Starring a first-rate ensemble cast—including Ted Danson (Saving Private Ryan), Martin Short (Father Of The Bride), Mary McDonnell (Independence Day), Jason Lee (Dogma) and Alfre Woodard (Down In The Delta)—Mumford is sure to win your heart with its charm and wit.

When a would-be psychologist, curiously named Dr. Mumford (Loren Dean, Enemy Of The State) comes to the idyllic town of the same name, and offers his talent for listening and a disarming frankness, the town's quirkiest citizens scramble for a seat on his couch. As he lightens hearts darkened by old secrets—including those of the beautiful and troubled Sofie Crisp (Hope Davis, Arlington Road)—no one realizes he's hiding a whopper of his own, or that he's fallen head over heels for one of his patients!

Filled with personality disorders, surprises, offbeat alliances and some hilarious fantasies, Mumford is just what the laugh doctor ordered.

*1983, Best Original Screenplay, The Big Chill
Something Wicked This Way Comes
One of Ray Bradbury's most popular and intriguing novels of good and evil comes to life in this spine-tingling motion picture. On a grim and gusty October day, two young boys encounter a distressed man who foretells of danger blowing their way. Soon after, the town is visited by a seductive stranger named Mr. Dark and his Pandemonium Carnival. Terrifying things begin to happen when the adventurous boys stumble onto the carnival's deadly and destructive secret! Beware: SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES... and frightening surprises follow!
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
The first in a trilogy of films based on the enduring masterpiece The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who – along with the Wizard Gandalf and 13 Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield – is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome Dragon Smaug. Their journey will take them into the Wild, through treacherous lands inhabited by Goblins, Orcs and deadly Wargs, as well as mysterious and sinister figure known only as the Necromancer. Along the path, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of ingenuity and courage that surprise even himself, he also gains possession of a "precious" ring tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways he cannot begin to imagine.
Houdini
Tony Curtis gives a winning performance as the great Houdini, the struggling circus performer who emerged as the world's most captivating magician and escape artist. From his beginnings as a "wild man" carnival act to the internationally famous feat of escaping from a locked trunk in an ice-jammed river, Houdini effectively captures the amazing life and courage of this fascinating man. Also stars the beautiful Janet Leigh as Houdini's supportive wife who lovingly stood by his side throughout his legendary career.
The Goodbye Girl
Paula MacFadden knows: in romance, actors all follow the same stage instruction: Exit. Without warning, her actor boyfriend split today for a movie role and sublet their manhattan apartment. The new tenant's name: Elliot Garfield. Profession: Actor.

Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason deliver comedy, zingy repartee and bitter-to-best romance in The Goodbye Girl, a lustrous charmer featuring Dreyfuss' Academy Award® winning Best Actor performance. Neil Simon's screenplay deftly combines battle-of-the-sexes appeal with an off-Broadway subplot whose scenes "are the funniest since Mel Brooks staged Springtime for Hitler [in The Producers]" (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times). You'll laugh, cry and cheer. Just say hello to this magical movie.

Don't let the cover fools you... The Island is probably the worst movie in that collection. It didn't made any impressions on me and it took me a couple of time to watch it. I even think I fell asleep because I can't remember that much about that film or what it was about.

That one who was released the same day is much better, a nice surprise in fact ;D

Yes, I am expecting it to be the worst of that bunch. I hesitated, but after finding a few reviews that said it's quite o.k. I decided to add it to my collection. I have this faint memory I may have seen this before, and maybe of Michael Caine's schlocky films one of the better ones...

Death Valley is on my Wish List and will be ordered at some point.

Received and watched the UK blu-ray of The Long Riders this morning, out in June. Some nice extras on this set which I'm viewing now, but movie is still cut by 4 seconds for a horse trip. Second Sight also cleaned up the print used on the MGM blu-ray.
