I don't really remember. As far as I remember only one scene had noticably bad quality. But it had a reason. It was a scene which was needed, but it was never shot. Only for a screentest. You probably already know it, because it was part of the special features of the first movie. It's the scene where Lois tricks Clark confessing to be Superman by pointing a gun at him.
I think there was a few more scenes with lower quality, since the spacial effects had not been finished at the time and they had to patch things up now.

But yes, the use of a scene from the screen-tests is the most distracting...

But it don't sound like it is too bad at least. I am really looking forward to checking it out! :)

Thinking about it again, I think the second power you listed is also gone. As for third, I always thought of it that it was an illusion created by the fortress of solitude.

The second one... the white beams from the finger... I don't think that had anything to do with the fortress. Remember.... they used it early on too. When they used it to lift that guy up in the air. And the kid said "Please Mister, put my dad down!"

No, the second didn't have anything to do with the fortress. But I think it is gone in the Donner cut.
The third with the multiple Supermen are some kind of holograms created by the fortress. At least that is what I always thought it was.
Notice how the villains are surprised by this. If it was a power, they would also have it.

But they did have it... remember? General Zod said "Psych Him!" and they used the power first. Then Superman used the power. And the one standing by Lois said to her... something like "I used to play this game at school... never was very good at it."

It helps that I just watched Superman II the other day!  Memory still fairly fresh.

My bad. I don't remember them using it.
Taking a quick look at this comparison of both cuts, that power is also gone.
Maybe because it has been five years since I saw the theatrical cut and I saw the Donner cut twice since then, I don't remember it anymore.

I am definitely expecting to enjoy the Donner cut much more then the theatrical. But I think I will still enjoy the theatrical cut every now and then... for what it is. I am just glad it is different enough to make the purchase worth while.

This is how I had always understood this a well.

Anyone hear anything good (or bad) about this weeks release of The Ten Commandments? Always loved that film. If done right it could be amazing in HD
DVD Talk gave it a perfect score (only half a star subtracted for the fiolm itself). I am tempted to get the regular version myself.
Thanks for the review, Achim! I got the limited edition gift set. The discs are housed inside the "ten comandment tablets".  :-\ There's a front panel and a back panel that are separate. They interlock when put together. The front houses 2 discs while the back houses 4 discs. On the back, there are 2 discs on each side with a flip out panel that's kind of hard to manipulate.

A replacement case for shelf storage seems like a good idea for this one.

That seems like a cool yet terrible packaging.

There is 6 discs to the set...? Is the movie on 3...? Or are there digital copies and DVDs as well?

Here's a breakdown:

2. BD 1956 Part 2/Special Features
3. BD 1923 Version
4. DVD 1956 Part 1
5. DVD 1956 Part 2
6. DVD Special Features

I think the Donner cut of Superman II is far better than the theatrical.  In some places it is just subtle differences..but those differences are enough to make the movie stronger.  Several things are just handled better in the Donner cut..especially when Lois confronts Clark about being Superman.  The improvements to the story far outweigh the issues with the video quality.

2. BD 1956 Part 2/Special Features
3. BD 1923 Version
4. DVD 1956 Part 1
5. DVD 1956 Part 2
6. DVD Special Features
Thanks James. That confirms to me that going for the regular version will be good enough for me. I don't need the DVDs, can do without the 1923 version and still probably get most the Special Features(?).

EDIT:
Correction after checking the review again.
