Weather
« on: December 12, 2009, 06:37:03 PM »
I'm wondering how the weather is where you are. 3 weeks ago I mowed the lawn for the last time. Buffalo and western New York had above average temperatures for the month of December until 2 days ago. We ended up getting hit with blizzard like snow in parts of NY. Hundreds of people on the thruway ended up getting stuck for almost 24 hours because the whipping wind caused zero visibility.

My niece, who lives only 10 minutes away, went out to her driveway and the snow was up to her waist. I live close to Lake Erie (which sometimes means I get slammed with snow!) and only got a few inches. I got up at 3am to shovel once and haven't had to do it again. Today the sun is shining and we are going to hit 40 again tomorrow.

Id love to see some snow!

I live pretty much in the middle of England, we are pretty cold and it looks like its going to rain as usual, we have an 8/1 chance of snow on christmas day apparently... I wouldn't count on it... we get our snow in February.

Up until a week it was still quite fall-ly around her - due to geographical reasons this region here is often the warmest spot in Germany. But now it's getting cold, especially the rain. Today it didn't rain but it was only 5°C (41°F) - at least it didn't rain.

But I fear next week I have to pull out my jacket out of the closet, until now I was only wearing a shirt.

Temperatures in Montreal have been well above normal so far in December, it went below freezing point for the first time only a few days ago. We had not had snow until last Wednesday when we were hit with 30 cm.  Today is a beautiful sunny day with -5°C (22°F).

Here it's mostly like Eric had written for Montreal, but it's colder (-14C today), with some wind but not too much and the snow had started to fall a couple of weeks ago (no snow storm yet, but it isn't the big panic here like it is at Montreal when it happens since we are used to it).

Of course being the practical guy that I usually am, I've cut my hair yesterday and it's really freezing outside with a military haircut

I'm always ready to defend Buffalo against its bad reputation for getting all the snow but...we beat you all! :tease:

I pretty much haven't left the house for a week and I'm working at night and sleep during the day - so I dunno about the weather. There was a bit of half-melted snow on my mailbox today, though.

We are having strange weather over here at the moment. One week it's been up to 39C degrees, boiling hot and dry while at other times it's been cold windy and raining. I just don't get it, we are apparently moving into a scorching summer however which I am not looking forward to.

I haven't seen any serious snow for 20 years maybe. In my 20s there was no heavy snow in northern Germany and Taiwan (where I was all through my 30s) has only snow on the highest mountains around here and whenever I was in Germany it was only a little (I understand in recent years it has become slightly better though).

Right now we have temperatures around 22C/75F and a few clouds taking some of the suns power.

But from what I've seen in the news this summer when it rains it rains and not just a little bit... I think I prefer our heavy snowing to that, of course maybe that would be different if I was the one plowing my driveway

I love the cold and snow - its fun to play in. I enjoy the changes in seasons but I prefer cold much more than hot weather. I went to Florida in the summer to help my mother move to her new house and I hated it. I don't care for air conditioning but it is a necessary evil for me there.

I bought a snow blower years ago but I don't think I used it a dozen times. I finally gave it to my brother last year since all it did was take up space in my garage. I do all the shoveling but I don't mind - no I actually like it. When it snows heavily you have to do it every hour or so. But, once the sun comes out, as long as your down to the cement the sun keeps it clear. I very seldom need salt so my snow stays clean and white and beautiful - well, except for the yellow snow my dogs water!

Oh yes, typhoons carry a lot of water. Lots of landslide in mountain areas and often many people die. It's always a troubled time.

It's already about 32C today and is forcast that it may get to about 39C (102F) in the middle of the day. I definatly know we have headed into that long hot Australian summer now.
