Anybody Ever See The Old Sheena TV Series?
« on: December 01, 2009, 09:01:43 PM »
I was glancing around Amazon.com today, looking up some random DVDs and I came across a listing for the Sheena TV series of the 1950s that starred Irish McCalla.  I've heard of this several times and seen a few photos but I've never actually seen a second episode and wondered if it would be worth getting.  I saw a couple different listings for it.  One was a 2-disc set which got a very poor review...it said it looked worse than a bad VHS dub.  I didn't notice what company released that.  The other is from Alpha...I've seen a few Alpha titles...some are decent, or okay, some less so.  They have 3 volumes at $7.99 or so each or for about $14 you can get all 3 volumes boxed together.  One review I saw said the picture was okay but the sound was a bit soft, so much so that it's hard to hear much of the actual dialogue in a few episodes.  From what I read, it seems the series lasted one season only and these 3 volumes may contain all the episodes but they are not published in order...and are not even in the order that they are listed on the DVD cases.  So I'm not decided yet but from the iffy review I am not rushing headlong towards this possible purchase.  :-\

Yes, Virginia, there was a Sheena

I rechecked and now I don't think this is the complete series.  The boxed set has 15 episodes which would not be the complete series after all.  Not unless it had a shorter season than I expect.  It came out in 1955 and, like Superman, was syndicated.  Oh, and the company that released the other Sheena DVD set that got a horrible review was Synergy.

I'm surprise Pete, a serie was even aired in 2000 for 2 seasons with Geena Lee Nolin in the title role.

Too bad that the set quality doesn't look really good, I want to watch this since I've seen Irish McCalla in She Demons. Not the greatest actress, she was ok in this film but a little bit annoying (of course, the fact that she looks good help).

I completely forgot about the Gena Lee Nolin version...d'oh!  Alpha, the company I was talking about, must have been feeling generous.  Most of the TV show discs they release have 4 episodes but these seem to have 5.  Holy Generosity, Batman!
