Oh yeah, I know of at least 2. Tom and I.

Actually, if you browse my review for reviews thread of the last few months, you'll notice there's a quite a bit of Anime in there ;)

Things I've watched recently that i liked?

Galaxy Angel: Completely silly and over the top. But it's pure fun!
Gad Guard: A nice little mecha story.
Ah! My Goddess: Fun little romance story.
Azumanga Daioh: Really fun series!
Full Metal Panic!: Awesome show! Great action, great fun!

There's also my all time favorite trifecta:

And I haven't said anything yet about Evangelion, or Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop, FLCL....

I used to watch Anime all the time, and in the least offensive way possible :S I think I grew out of it.... At the time I watched it alot it was the "cool" thing to do at school... that makes me cringe now haha.

Although saying that, I watched a few anime series recently that I really enjoyed.

Gantz Outlaw Star and Wolfs Rain

I enjoyed Tenchi Muyo a few years back

I never likes Naruto or Bleach or any of those new animes like that :S I just can't get into them, and with all that filler they are turning in to DragonBall Z Which I enjoyed immensely aged 10 :/ looked like I loved watching Goku scream for an entire episode and not move ¬_¬

I have never enjoyed an anime in my life - in fact I recently sold most of the few anime dvds I owned on e-bay because of this.
Just never understood the appeal

I really like Naruto but I know what you mean about the fillers, they drive me insane. Also DragonBall Z is one I've never watched.

That's cool Rich, I suppose my love of anime comes from my love of animation in general. I have spent years trying to watch animated films and series from as many countries in the world that I can. After doing this I realise that while I love American animation they are really behind, even today in what can be accomplished. America for the most part (not entirley) treat animation as a genre, and not a medium which is what it should be. In anime theres everything from kids shows, to horror, mystery, crime, drama, comedy etc. And a lot of them are aimed at adults. I think this is one of the reasons I love anime the most. Not only Japan as well but this is something many European countries have also been doing for years with animation.
I am aware that America has animated shows aimed at adults but they are usually rare and of poor qaulity. It also took the Western world a lot longer to get to this stage than countries like Japan.

You aren't the only one... A friend of mine had given me some on dvd-r a long time ago and I haven't watched them entirely even if I had this for more than 3 years... I've watched some of the adult variety on the web years ago and I was not impress also (too weird for my taste)...

Count me in as not caring for anime as well. About the only one I could stand were the first few episodes of Cowboy Bebop.

I'm surprised at these replies. Anime is far too wide a subject to write it off. Spirited Away and Grave of the Fireflies are two that no-one thinks of as Anime, but technically are.

My favourites of more typical fare are Akira and Ghost In The Shell.

Grave of the Fireflies
I've bought this one after I've read the Sebastien's review for it, but haven't watch it yet. The only one I've watched entirelly was about a witch cult (or something like this) in a school and like I've said it was way too weird even for me. The movie had hermaphrodite teacher, a pokemon like character, a well enhanced huge demon, many scary looking creature, a cute heroine in school girl uniform, ... All the story was filled with sex and rape (even the pokemon looking character does it with the heroine) and doesn't really make sense.

Sure I like bizarre movie, but it was too over the top even for me.
Yeah I know it's the adult version of those anime, but I don't see myself watching kiddie stuff like Goldorak or Albator...

At the risk of making many enemies, I have no idea whats so great about Studi Ghibli :S don't care for it at all,  to me its like watching generic anime, its overrated. Ghost in the Shell and Akira, are also two films I see as being very overrated :S I don't see the appeal.

Studio Ghibli are the disney of Japanese anime... why? because alot of there films are highly overrated!

Critter, Animation is pretty much a genre, the definition of genre is Type or Class, if something is animated, then part of its genre classing is animated. for example Monster House is an animated - horror

Whilst you can say its a "medium" so are most other "genres" Comedy's can follow many a basic "artistic technique" but comedy is still classed as a genre  :tease:

Anyway, back on to Anime, Japanese anime, its very overrated due to the sudden influx of it being "cool" I was observing a class of 16 year old students today at college. :S all of them were talking about Pokemon and Digimon.... New Pokemon is so watered down compared to the original its ridiculous.

overall, whilst I have enjoyed Anime, I tend to watch things based on there story alone regardless of genre. I think people go disregard anime due to the way it looks without thinking about a story. even so, I can see why people wouldn't be able to watch and entire episode of an anime... some look worse then American animated shows like Family Guy (Of course, people can argue about South Park now, but its style is purposeful, unlike certain other shows.)

I have to be in the mood to watch anime, as I do to watch anything that isn't a comedy!

(Just my 2 cents, or pence as I like in the UK)

I was complete "anime avoider" as I like to call it until about two years ago. A former collegue of mine was a big anime fan and he got me into it. Before that I never watched them, because I didn't like the style. But thankfully I was introduced to them, because there are really great ones. I must say I have never watched Dragonball or Naruto. Those don't seem like series I would enjoy.

Here a few of my anime reviews:
The Adventures of Mini-Goddess
Ah My Goddess!: Season 1
Azumanga Daioh!
Full Metal Panic? FUMOFFU
Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid
Genshiken
Gokusen
GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka
Gunslinger Girl
Haibane Renmei
If I See You In My Dreams
Kamichu!
Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Midori Days
Oh My Goddess! OVA
Rocket Girls
Suzuka

Back before DVD, I had a couple on laserdisc...let me see if I still have those... (runs off to collection)...

Well, I couldn't find them but they may be in there hiding somewhere.  I need to go through all my lasers and pitch the ones I've since bought DVD copies of.  I remember having one called, I believe, Cutie Honey which was about a female robot with special powers.  She would change into different outfits, getting momentarily naked as she did so.  I also had one called something like Supergirl or Superwoman...not based on the DC character...about a super-powered female crimefighter always getting into trouble because she damaged lots of property and then had to pay for her damages (I hate being poor!)...   Those are the only ones that come to mind...I also have some Italian cartoons but that's for another thread at another time...

Disney wish they were the Ghibli of American animation! :P On one hand I haven't seen enough to form a general opinion, but the thing I appreciate about Miyazaki is the stuff I barely understand; the intricate detail relating to Japanese history and culture. All the weird demons and creatures are authentic folk tales.

In more straightforward terms, I find them far superior to modern Disney (excluding Pixar) because they don't treat kids like idiots who need sugary songs to understand something. They are powerful and often dark tales like proper kids stories used to be.

And onto Akira and Ghost In The Shell... well, I have no need because I'm right and you're wrong!  :tease: But seriously, I first saw Ghost around the time of The Matrix and thought it was a much better constructed story. It dropped you in the middle without endless exposition and treated the viewer like an intelligent adult, rather than an ADD afflicted nerd.

So there.
