Reading this Doctor Who hate killed me a little on the inside. I must say though, at least Rhona admits to having watched Dr Who and can state reasons for why she doesn't like it (even if most of us don't agree with it). There is nothing that I hate more than when people judge something when they haven't seen or read it. I recently had an argument with someone who kept saying that they hated a particular cartoon that I love saying it was stupid. When I asked them what in particular they hated they admitted to never having watched an episode. Hearing that left me in a some what of a fit of rage. So while I don't agree with Rhona's Dr Who hate I at least thank her for giving a valid reason.

Never watch the show so I can't judge it, but the robot make me laugh. I'm not sure if it was the effect desired by the maker of this TV show

I forgot which, but besides being in 2 movies (Forbidden Planet and The Invisible Boy) I believe Robbi also played in a TV series (which is where the picture would be from, I believe).

To be honest im not a fan of the BBC Saturday evening family viewing, Robin Hood, Dr Who .... the other one I can't remember....

Robin Hood because it just doesn't feel right, Im hoping this new films remedies this for me... I just don't feel Robin Hood is ever right 0_o no matter how much I like some of the movies...

and Dr Who.... where do I begin? Ok so, the firs Dr Who I watched was the Baker era, I loved it as a kid.... this newer series (Christopher Eccelston (Sp) David Tennent and Matt (uhh....something)) Why does the world always have to be ending? :/ and another thing, because they only have single episodes stories often it feels like everything has been squished into the episode. Its just to eager to please! you know? all these bad in jokes and bad dialogue :S I think it deserves to be darker... more Torchwood maybe?

Yes, it looks cheap. Most monsters are obvious CGI, but some look great.

IMO the show goes very directly for a B-movie style, with cheesy dialogue, including the cheap effects, stupid character behaviour as well as artificially prolonged suspense. But, 90% of the time that works really way and I find it to be excellent "popcorn TV".

Who is definitely painted in broad strokes, using some outrageous contrivances and yes, the world tends to be ending quite often. But it's about character and mood. They nail the poignancy every time and the Doctor as a character is one of the very best in TV.

And the monsters can be genuinely scary. The Dalek's look daft, but they're written to have such incredible power. Literally, the only thing that could defeat a Dalek was stairs! Even that isn't true any more.

Things are hardly ever squished though. All the "world ending" plots tend to go over doubles at least. This series is shaping up very nicely, with each episode stand-alone, monster-of-the-week, but each of those monsters contributes to the overall arc.

Make it as dark as Torchwood? Odd suggestion, considering the point of Torchwood is a more adult view of the Who universe. Hence the much smaller viewing figures!

That said, Who had more than its fair share. He's a doomed character and some of the things he's had to leave behind are devastating. Tennant's final story was a cracker. A shiver went up my spine when Wilf tapped on the glass... "can you let me out?". It was beautifully done.

Robin Hood is ok (Merlin is great fun though!), but I pray the BBC doesn't alter it's methods. We've so badly needed this. Before Who came back, our TV was heading for a hell of reality crap and repeats with only American shows to look forward to.

I saw some Dr. Who years ago..no idea who was playing the doctor at that point.  I think he had blond curly hair.  Anyway, I liked what I saw at that time.  I haven't seen any of the newer stuff.  I guess I've been a bit...overwhelmed with how long the show has been on and not knowing where to start.
