Primeval renewed
« on: September 29, 2009, 03:28:44 PM »
I remember seeing someone bemoaning the fact that Primeval had been cancelled, but couldn't find the thread, so apologies for starting another one.

This has just been posted on the internal website at work:

Hit drama Primeval will return to UK television screens for two new series from 2011, thanks to a ground-breaking deal between ITV, multichannel broadcaster UKTV and producers Impossible Pictures.

The new series will be showrun once again by Adrian Hodges and will feature the return of stars from the previous series, including Hannah Spearritt, Andrew Lee Potts and Jason Flemyng, alongside the acclaimed special effects created by the award-winning team at Framestore CFC.

The premieres of series 4 and series 5 of Primeval will be split between ITV1 and UKTV's new entertainment pay TV channel, Watch.

ITV1 will be the first to broadcast series 4 in early 2011, while Watch will premiere series 5 later that year. ITV1 will then broadcast series 5.

Impossible Pictures has worked closely with BBC Worldwide to implement a new funding strategy for the series, in which BBC America, which has acquired previous series for broadcast in the US, joins Germany's Pro7 as a co-production partner for the new episodes.

Innovative partnership
Tim Haines, Creative Director of Impossible Pictures Ltd, said: "I am thrilled that ITV has agreed to this new deal, which will allow Impossible Pictures to produce another 13 episodes of Primeval.

"The confidence demonstrated in the programme's continued success here and abroad will help us bring more big screen action and a whole host of new creatures roaring back into people's living rooms."

Laura Mackie, Director of ITV Drama Commissioning, said: "We're delighted to have agreed this new deal with Impossible to return Primeval to ITV1.

"The innovative nature of this partnership will allow the show to maintain its high production values and deliver the fantastic programme that our viewers know and love."

Quality!

I'm not a huge fan, but I thought their attitude stank. It's a good fun series, and we need more like it not less.

It was Karsten's pilot marathon btw, but ta for posting. :D

Funny, as in the other thread that source up to just earlier this week indicated the "ongoing cancellation" (not yet uncancelled).

Huh, maybe I'd give series 2 a chance after all.

Just finished watching series 3 (Karsten, you ever gave series 2, and maybe 3, that chance...?) and, since they end on that massive cliffhanger, was wondering what happened to this?

Found a thread at IMDb that semi-sonfirms that series 4 will be made, but it's from January. I am not linking it, since I wish I hadn't read it, it's spoilers galore :( Anyway, ultimately found the link to the official site and it seems that it will continue next year :D

Maybe one day, when there's nothing else on. But since my stack is rather growing than shrinking I doubt it'll be anytime soon.

Lol I know it's an unpopular opinion but I am a lifelong Who hater. I think it's badly written, overacted and an embarrassment to british tv! :p

If you're talking about old Who, then I would at least say I wasn't a fan. I always respected it as a kid, but didn't enjoy its clunkiness. But since the relaunch it's a different beast!

I do really like Primeval, but it's not even on Who's radar as a threat.

Hey I'm not saying Primeval would ever get anywhere near the amount of love and cult following as DW, just that I cringe slightly less when I watch it :P
Personally when I watch Dr Who, I feel acutely aware that these are actors reciting a script and attempting to portray a character in a specific way. It's just a bit too try-hard for my liking, if you get what I'm trying to say.
