I watched a few trailers such as this one:

But I am not convinced yet. I fear that it will turn out to be yet another Canadian-Forest-of-the-Week show.

Don't get me wrong I really liked SG-1. But 10 years was enough. I watched the first season of SGA and a few episodes of season 2 but the interest was gone. And what I heard about it (Replicators again...) didn't really make me want to watch more.

But when SGU airs, sure, I will watch at least a couple of episodes to make up my mind.

I feel the same way was Karsten, I loved SG-1 though wasn't so keen on the last couple of series, and never really got into Altantis. I'll give Universe a go but won't expect too much from it.
All too often I think TV producers, when they consider a spin-off, think how can they repackage the old series rather than considering what new things they can do with the series mythology.

That's "we" as in my wife and oldest son.  The younger one (7) probably won't be interested.

We (my wife and I) call it Planet Vancouver. ;D

I hope it's an all new show based around a stargate.  If the Replicators show up again, then someone needs to be smacked.  I hate when new shows recycle bad guys from previous incarnations.

Starts in about 35 minutes. I'll probably catch it late tonight (still working) or in the morning. As most of you know I am a big fan of the entire series. I'm very happy to see SG-Anything back.

My cable carrie started carrying Syfy-HD just as SG Atlantis was over. I think I got to see just the last couple of episodes in HD  :voodoo: Hopefully now this series will make up for some of that.  ;D

EDIT: .... Planet Vancouver  :hysterical:

SGU @ Wikipedia
SGU @ IMDb

Chevron 9 encoded. Chevron 9 ... locked. On a planet some 21 light years from Earth an SG team has discovered a Stargate that's not hooked into the normal Stargate system. They've discovered that it can be encoded with 9 symbols, instead of the usual 7 (or 8 to reach Atlantis in the Pegasus galaxy). But the planet is under attack and the core reaches a critical point which will tear the planet apart. They have no choice but to jump forward ... only to find themselves on an ancient Ancients spaceship that travels through space quite a few galaxies away from home.

So far I've only seen two thirds of the three-parter pilot. On the one hand this could be the kind of show Star Trek: Voyager never was but that depends on how they solve their shortages of basically everything. But I also have a problem: Except for Eli I don't really like any of the characters on this ship, especially not the "leader", Dr. Rush. He only seems to care about this discovery and not about the people around him. Maybe it's a premature evaluation but he comes across as rather unlikeable character - and not in a House way.
Of course I will watch the third part and a few more episodes but their main concern must be to give these characters personalities.

New episodes return a week from today.

Still have mixed emotions about the show. I hope they find their identity soon. To me they are trying to do more of a Battlestar Galactica type show centered around the characters and their drama, with the whole Stargate side of it only there as a backdrop to tell their story.

I haven't given up yet and wont through the rest of the season but they need to turn it up a bit to get me to came back next year.
