I wasn't trying to convince you to change anything on how you do stuff. But I did want you to realize it may not be as well known and understood as you thought it was... as I for one never understood that way personally. And if it confuses me... you know it will confuse other people as well. I am definitely not the only person in the world it would confuse.

It may be a professional hazard. I am used now to the yyyymmdd approach, because I am always using it for stuff related to computers. E.g. it is a great way to have a proper sorting for image folders (vacation, birthdays, etc. folders) or other documents (like team meeting protocols).

That's why I always use the short or long name for the month. So If I write 19 Aug 09 or August 19, 2009 it should be clear to everyone what I mean.

I have to say I agree... Now that I would think is understood by everyone here. I mean if they are here they understand English. At least reading it.... as virtually every post here is in English. So either one of those mentioned would easily and quickly be understood by everyone here.

I can understand that... but that don't mean it is understood as well by the human brain. Especially if they are not familiar with that way. Where I use my computer for very little other then surfing the net it just doesn't occur to me that way.

I didn't mean to open a can of worms.  Why don't we just thank Karsten for doing it so quickly.

I would have loved to do it but I'm no longer an administrator  :tease:

I definitely thank him!

and for the record... I have no problem with what format anyone decides to use for dates. I just know that any of the all number formats can cause confusion for some people is all. But don't let that effect the way you post... I would never ask anyone to change anything they are comfortable with.

The date is a good thing to have, but -and I know I'm wading in late- this "International Format" rubbish has always made me laugh because it's only American's who use it!  I know Tom says he prefers year first, and it is sensible for data sorting, but for display, I'd want the British, French and apparently German proper way of DD/MM/YY.

I agree with Tom's example, but I was rather certain that 2009-05-02 should be clear to everyone ???
