There has been a change! About half way up and 1/4 - 1/3 in from the left there used to be two police stations. Now there's a substantial building with a clocktower.

Yes, but that is the way down! We were at 274 two weeks ago and 275 one week ago.

Not quite.
We were at 275 when the fastburner Airforcelife3 passed us last week, 274 was and is out of reach for this year with our current growth-rate.
274 is a dead city (Kippsville), which I'm currently using for a pollution experiment. If you want to help me on this, use this link: http://kippsville.myminicity.com/ind/.
I want to see in how far pollution is affecting the population.

What do you mean exactly? You want to see how quickly people will leave if the pollution gets too bad? Wouldn't it be better to increase the number of factories, (no businesses, transport, or parks) and keep the population the same instead of increasing the population? I'd think factories cause more pollution than population, but then again I have no idea.

(I was wondering why were wanting us to promote a city that was ahead of us :laugh: )

I searched in the past for cities that were in bad shape just to see how different they would look. Here are a few that I ran across:

POP = Population; U = Unemployment; T = Transport; CR = Crime Rate; POL = Pollution

* Elyashpunye with a current message (from Nov 30) of people leaving due to traffic jams. POP=291;U=38%;T=52%;CR=0%;POL=0%
* regotihm -- POP=319;U=41%;T=64%;CR=6%;POL=0%
* PHPCurious -- POP=183;U=17%;T=71%;C=0%;P=0%

... and then there is my favorite find so far...
* Deufel House -- I visited it using the population link, and things are so screwed up in the city it didn't even add the inhabitant. It apparently wants other things to get fixed first :laugh:  POP=2729;U=25%;T=67%;CR=30%;POL=26%

???
That's exactly what my link will do ... increase industry and thereby pollution.

Oh, duh.

Somehow I thought I only saw the root (population) URL.

But wouldn't it be better to experiment on one of many others that isn't above us or, better yet, not in the same region?

Increasing their industry will decrease their transportation and increase their crime rate and pollution. This will cause people to leave and decrease their population. Also, if they try to increase their population without addressing the other problems first, they will still have people leave or other problems, like arson, that will decrease their revenue. We have see that with our city and that's why we try to balance our growth while addressing the other areas.

Sounds simple, but sometimes I'm not so certain about the logic used on there.

Earlier on the one I mention above that's in really bad shape, I added a resident and immediately another one moved out :laugh:

Two months later, on our way back up again. Now at 272.

Meanwhile, in Kippsville:  "06 January: Several inhabitants leave kippsville. They are searching for some unpolluted air!"  :laugh:

A feature that would have been cool if it had been added at the creation of the site (it wouldn't be the same if added now) is if people leave one city, they move into the next city up in ranking.

Something like, "A former inhabitant of [city name] has come to DVDCollectors in search of work."

We just lost a citizen to go look for a job, which really confuses me.

At the time I posted above, there were 4 new shops added (3 of them back to back) and the unemployment rate was at 0%. Since then a factory had been built. All provide jobs. So I wonder why the guy left even if the unemployment was showing as 0%.

He probably was looking for a different job  :-\

What bugged me even more was that the click that lead to the leave should have sent in the 4901 st inhabitant. Instead we went down to 4899.  :baffled:

Up to 270 now.

Pop:  5011
Rev:  1,260,700

On another note, I saw a new message. I started a new community that I am experimenting with. I added people until the industry tab was activated. Then I kept adding industries without adding any more people. Eventually I got: "3 factories have closed; there is not enough work force."

I have a collection.

Now at 265 (is it just me or have we been moving up a little faster lately?)

Pop:  5380
Rev:  1,360,000

Just for the fun of it in case some people haven't seen them all before, back in January, I searched sites trying to find all of the negative effects possible for a site. I'm almost certain that I found them all ("ThisPlace" is a fake town name I created to keep from using the sites where I found some of these):
