It's funny. I'm playing Fallout: New Vegas very differently that what I did on Fallout 3. I still do exploring. A lot of it actually. But while I do discover places, I rarely enter them to explore further. Kind of like I don't want to spoil anything, and enter a place before I'm "supposed" to.

I ran into a bunch of Deathclaws the other. I was doing well. killed about 5 or 6 of them before they even noticed I was there (thank you sniper rifle!). Guess what happened? Of course! While I was focused on the ones that were far ahead of me, I got jumped by 4 of 'em from behind!  :hysterical:

And as usual, I keep getting sidetracked. Start doing a quest, find a new place. Talk to someone who gives you a new quest. Do that quest, which leads to another quest. And all that time, the ED-E MY LOVE quest has been my "active quest" since Primm, yet I still haven't completed it!
Not as extreme as you, but I also go along in similar ways. I have reached Vegas by now and begun the first quests there (Vegas is preceded by Freeside). I could be wrong, but it seems there is more quests than in Fallout 3...

I usually will explore new places I find, but occasionally wil make a note somewhere that I shall return to a certain place later on, as to not waste time at that moment.

Have you been to vault 34 (I think)? You get there for a mission, too, trying to fdind out something about water. (I am specifically vague so I don't spoil anything.

I haven't been to any of the vaults yet. I did find the location for a few of them. I found Vault 34 and even entered it. But I had to run away.

That's only the beginning of it

If I may suggest, go only back there when you are of decent level and ideally take one or two companions with you.

BTW, are you using any companions so far? I received the achievement/trophy for having used all "main" (apprently there are more) companions at least once.

Oh, so we get the XP from the companions but the kills don't count in the statistics...?

There is a few other interesting companions coming up, but I believe only three more will be permanent. I think all of them will/can come across will doing quests.

WARNING:
Tonight I will have to scrap my entiree gaming session from yesterday and start with Sunday's save :(, I found out too late about the following bug:

When you go into a casino on The Strip, your guns willbe taken from you until you leave. The same will happen to your companions. Your companions will not get their weapons back though! Apparently sometimes you end up with their weapon (which is cool, as they don't fall apart through use) but you cannot return them. Always leave comapnions waiting outside any casino.

We do get the XP for companion kills. Don't know about the stats. But it felt cheap to always have Boone spot and kill before I did ;)

Oh, I forgot to tell you. I found an almost infallible way to win at Caravan.

Wow! Mojave Express needs a new marketing team. I've been spending time in Freeside lately. Must've crossed the Mojave Express Box many many times, and I just noticed it this morning! hahaha

 I remember that one was the same for me.

BTW, I finished the first of three(?) ending Sunday, helping the Legion to victory at that round. That storyline seemed most removed from the other two. I am now exploring more, getting myself to level 30 before attempting the other two(?). The Legion-finale was quiote the experience with some kind of a boss-fight that took me quite some time tro get done (of course, all those freezes don't help either ::)).

Took the Jury Rigging perk as second to last and am loving it. Can now repair with similar guns rather than match exactly

Yeah, I'm currently building my repair to 90 just for that perk.

I'm still at Freeside. Still haven't met with the guy in a suit who shot me. I still haven't been to the strip. So many side quests to do, so little time, so much land to explore! ;)

Have you been kicked out of any casino yet? I got banned from the Atomic Wrangler. Seems like getting a jackpot in the first few pulls is frowned upon in these parts.

I have not done any gambling yet at all; except caravan, of course.

Not even seen The Strip yet? :o But yes, there is loads and loads to do. I am currently having a dry spell for non-story missions, need to find some more. So I am mainly exploring undicsovered locations...

Yesterday I got angry though. After the third death by Deathclaw and fourth or fifth freeze I shut down the game and played something else. Is XBOX just as easy to freeze? I was really mad at Bethesda/Obsidian at that moment for the mess. It's agreat expansion of the universe, but the amount of freezes is ridiculous. Not even talking about bugs... (I understand that such a game can bever be problem free, but this is really taking the cake. It is even worth than Fallout 3! :-\)

I must be lucky. I've had the game freeze only once. Well, multiple times to be honest, but all at the same place with the same save. (talking to the Doctor at McCarran Base) Reloaded an older save and it fixed it (lost about 30 minutes).

Only other odd problem I got was the right thumbstick stopped responding. I could only control walking. No way to turn around. (lost about 2 hours that time)
---
I went to Nellis base this morning. Quite a rush with all those rockets flying! Once you figure out what to do though, it's pretty easy. But until you do figure it out - my gosh! ;)
---
I have so many unfinished quests I'd like to do before going to the Strip. It's funny because, going to the Strip, to me, feels like the beginning of the end of the game, so I keep pushing it off.
---
It's incredible how much stuff I still haven't done, and yet, I'm 35+ hours into the game. I still haven't properly visited a single Vault. Still haven't gone to the Strip. And I'm near level 20. Think I may be side questing too much? Told you I didn't like the main story all that much.. Side quests are much more interesting!
---
I wish there were more Super Mutants. They were fun. Much better than geckos, coyotes or cazadors ever will be.
---
Man! Just got my ass handed to me by a pack of Feral Ghoul Reaver accompanied by 4 or 5 Glowing Ones... ouch!

I didn't quite figure it out :bag: On my second attempt I just ran like hell and arrived at the gate with all limbs crushed  Limped to the next available bed and recovered by an hour of sleep. :hysterical:

Actually, that is correct ;) The one quest that brings you to the Strip is the one that is usually mentioned as the one you should hold a save file from, as this is where all the endings branch off. I chose a later point and hope I can still finish all trophy related quests. Of course I still have earlier saves as well, so I may just have to go back a little more.

I agree, side quests are quite good in this one and the main quest is a bit stale compared to them. I have clocked in somewhere around 60 hours already, I think :bag:

I agree again.  It was great sneaking up on them and listen to their dialog. Geckos and coyotes are o.k. to kill, but cazadors and (*gasp*) night stalkers are a real annoying threat. :yucky:

I think I will play a little more tonight... Just can't hzelp myself
