Who doesn't love a good Spielberg movie? Problem is, not all are good and what you think is good or bad I don't.

I enjoyed Hook. To bring the characters back from Neverland and allowing them to grow up, forgetting their past and then rediscovering it was a good basis for the movie. I also enjoyed the inside jokes like the "lost marbles".

1941, most seem to dislike the movie. I enjoyed it. Maybe because I'm older and remember stories from my parents about those crazy days right after the attack at Pearl Harbor and how all of the west coast thought a land invasion was immenent and nothing was too good for our boys preparing to repel the invading "yellow menace". Sorry if that last is offensive to anyone. It was used as a venacular of the times. I am saddened that the fervor of the times lead to the interment camps for American Japanese. There is a location just south of where I am in Washington that used to be one such camp. It is now a county fairground. One of the notable persons that were intered there was George Takei.

Munich, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Amistad, The Color Purple. Saw them all in the theater. Didn't care for them for one reason or another. don't own the DVDs and don't have any plans to get them. Well, Munich I do own, but it was given to me by my sister. Once I have the shinny disc, I find it impossible to part with.

War of the Worlds, The Terminal, Catch Me If you Can, Minority Report (I'm a sucker for any film based on P.K. Dick's works), AI: Artificial Intelligence, The Jurrasic Park Trilogy, The Indiana Jones Trilogy, Twilight Zone, E.T. the Extra-Terestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Something Evil, Dual. All good films. Enjoyed watching them all, own most of them. Just don't feel that they are bench-mark films.

Empire of the Sun, The Sugarlan Express. Haven't seen, don't own, don't care to own. No comments on them.

Jaws, great film, great cast. Loved it, triple dipped on it. Too easy to "me too" on it. Going to pass on voting for it.

And there are a bunch of films where he was the producer or executive producer of. These fall outside of the rules.
These are entertaining to great but are excluded from this game.

Now, the one that gets my vote. "Always". Not a landmark film by any means, but very entertaining. It has a great storyline and a great cast that "sell" the movie to me.

Now, where to subtract points? Movies I don't own, I have to discount from the voting. They would probably get my vote because I don't own them. Based on this criteria, guess "Munich" will get my thumbs down.

Always +2
Munich -2

I did like Hook, too.

But around here "Peter Pan" is not a widely read children's story AFAIK. I never read it

Schindler's List +2
The Terminal -2

I think Schindler's List is his masterpiece, but that title could also be applied to E.T., Raiders, Close Encounters, Jaws ... in fact most of the list!

Catch Me If You Can is a personal favourite, because it comes across as light and fun, even though it is technically superb. It's his Ocean's 11 I think.

A.I. should not be on 6 points! You might not like it, but his WORST? What's wrong with you people? Flawed, it may be, but it is grand, ambitious and powerful. I think it has his best moments.

The Terminal I voted down, because it just is what it is. There's nothing really special there and that's not Spielberg.

The Terminal: -1  Useless movie, if it was supposed to mean something I missed it.
A.I: -1 Good idea but average results
I.J and the Last Crusade: +2 because it's my favorite of the 3, I love the way Spielberg exploited the severe while excentric character of Indy's father.  It's also the most important one because we finally learnt that Indiana was the name of the dog.

Wow, lots of interesting comments, good! That's the whole point. In response to these, I would say that from a very personal standpoint, I consider Spielberg to be a thoroughly consistent filmmaker and one which I've enjoyed since I was a kid. One which I remember very vividly, maybe because I was at the right age at that time [I was 8] was E.T., and was probably one of the reasons that pushed me forward to have something to do with the film industry. With the exception of his TV movie Something Evil, which I have not watched, I would say I've enjoyed them all, some more than others. The black sheeps for the lot, for me, have been 1941 and Hook.

Both of them I consider thoroughly exaggerated and artificial. To comment on Halo2's post, well sure Hook is a fantasy movie, and perhaps it's the cynic in me, but I can't find anything charming or magical about it; I have tried several times to appreciate it but it just loses me. I don't think it's a good sign when a filmmaker presents kids that you're supposed to care about one, but for me, I just wanted to give them a good kick and a 'shut up already!'.

As for 1941, I understand the feelings towards Pearl Harbor, but wow, that is one manic movie. A huge monster of screams and confusion. I get the comment on the craziness of the times, but that didn't make it for an enjoyable ride, IMO.

Alright, rant terminated.

To SailorRipley, not to worry that you don't care for Hook or 1941. I didn't even vote for them in my post. While I enjoyed watching them, I agree that they both are over the top. How do you contain Belushi/Aykroyd or Williams when they are on a roll? You let them go and you get some great stuff to some stuff that only their fans enjoy. 1941 off the list, so it goes. Hook nearing the bottom, ah well. The game continues.

To that point, I'm splitting my votes across 4 movies.

Munich -1 I'd rather watch Raid on Entebe
Catch Me If You Can -1 Really liked the Great Impostor better.

Always +1 What can I say, love this film.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind +1 Oh, what you can do with mashed potatoes....
