What do you think of the new shows this year?
« on: September 29, 2012, 11:52:33 AM »
When the announcement came what shows would be starting this year, I was not very impressed with the outlook.

And now that the season has actually started, it hasn't gotten much better.

What do you think about the new series that have started this fall?

So far I've watched:

The New Normal: Since I'm totally immune to the "scandal" side of the show (i.e. two gays wanting to adopt a baby) I'm just looking at it from a comedic perspective. But it just fails. It's just not funny, only bad stereotypes running around.

Guys With Kids: Run-of-the-mill (or as we Germans call it: 08/15) sitcom with no markers that set it apart.

Go On: Matthew Perry's next try to establish a new show. I like it, but I also liked Mr Sunshine and that was cancelled rather quickly.

Revolution: Postman as TV show? The pilot was OK but I was not overly thrilled. I will give it two or three more episodes to see where it's going.

Ben and Kate: It is not laugh-out-loud funny, but I liked the characters immediately. I'll give it a chance.

Elementary: It has to endure the comparison to BBC's Sherlock at which it falls short. But I like both leads and I'm perfectly able to enjoy two shows of the same topic. I'll give it a chance.

Anything I missed?

Revolution - I kinda liked the everything-overgrown-with-green look of it, but otherwise there isn't much to it.

Elementary - Meh.

Things you missed:

Last Resort - Nuclear submarine conspiracy actioner. The pilot was fun, but I doubt they can keep this up.

Copper - CSI 1860, NY. Pilot was pretty good, but I'm already getting tired of it.

Parade's End -  5-part BBC miniseries (in co-production with HBO). British upperclass, love triangle, WWI may not sound very appealing, but at least for the first three (pre-war) episodes it's quite spectacular. With Benedict Cumberbatch.

I also like Go On.  I keep forgetting to watch it but luckily it's available via On Demand from my digital cable service.  I've watched one episode each of Guys With Kids which was average to me and The New Normal which I didn't like.  I usually just watch sitcoms but haven't seen all the new ones yet.

I haven't watched too many new ones yet.

I did watch Elementary and I liked it.  No it isn't the same as Sherlock...but it was still entertaining and it has a different take on some of the things.

Hmmm...that may be the only new show I watched last week.  I have watched new episodes of older shows..and liking some more than others.

How I Met Your Mother - I didn't even get through the episode.  I flipped over to Bones..and I'm a bit annoyed with it at the moment.

I really liked Castle and Big Bang Theory.

Criminal Minds and CSI were pretty good.  NCIS too..from what I saw.  I missed some of it because of a phone call.

A lot of the new shows I've seen clips of just don't appeal to me for whatever reason.
