Topic: Movie trailer extraction

As you know I try most of the time to put a trailer in my review, sometimes I have it on the disc but I can't find it anywhere on the net. Since I'm sure that someone can help me with this it cost nothing to ask.

How can I transfer a trailer from my DVD to my hard disc? If it's possible I prefer a freeware to do it (since it will cost me already a little bit over 70 $CAN to buy the key for anyDVD), but if it's a shareware thats not the end of the world. If I need to change the format (for Youtube) could you suggest me something too.

Instead of AnyDVD you could go with the combination of DVD43 and DVDShrink.

I have no idea how DVDs are transformed into AVIs, though.

I just download and try DVDShrink and it extract the part I want from the DVD. For the conversion part I've found something where I got DVDShrink. I don't know yet if it will work, but I will try at the end of the download. I hope that it will permit to decrease the size of the files (96 meg just for a 2 minutes trailer), I will take me 10 hours just to upload that

I use the freeware tool HandBrake to convert DVDs for use on my iPod touch. It can convert to Mpeg 4, XVid and H.264. Maybe it is useful for you. It should be helpful to convert to YouTube compatible format. YouTube recommends the following settings:
"We recommend the following settings:

    * MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format
    * 640x480 resolution (* most updated recommendation)
    * MP3 audio
    * 30 frames per second"

Thanks to everyone for the help.

DVDShrink and HandBrake combinate do exactly what I want. The file to upload is normal (20 meg) and I upload my first one now (takes a long time, but I have only a 56k conection). If it works you will have the trailer for "Paradise" in my next review.
