Reunion Movies... A thing of the past?
« on: January 22, 2011, 07:45:23 PM »
After watching The Death of the Incredible Hulk today I got thinking about Reunion movies in general... and how I really don't see them occurring anymore. I don't include something like the X-Files movies since that one went to the theater instead of airing on TV. I just can't think of the last time I saw a reunion movie come onto TV. Maybe back in the '90s?

Looking at my DVD collection... here is some series I think would be fun to see a reunion movie for...

- Angel (would love to have seen how that battle ended)
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer
- Charmed
- Dark Angel
- Friends
- Ghost Whisperer (though this one could wait a year or two more)
- JAG
- Joan of Arcadia (Need an ending for the cliffhanger it ended on!)
- Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
- Veronica Mars

What do you all think... is the day of the Reunion Movie over?... and which shows would you like to see a reunion movie for?

They still try to pull off some of them. For example, Kristen Bell would totally be open for a VM movie. And a Friends movie was in the talk, too.

Maybe also the mentality has changed. Either it's going to be a big surprise or it seems to be impossible to convince Michael Rosenbaum to return to Smallville for one more episode.

I knew Kristin Bell wanted to do a Veronica Mars movie... but I haven't heard anything about it happening. So that unfortunately don't show anything.

I never heard anything about Friends... if it was to happen I would definitely see it.

There was a "Dead Like Me" reunion movie. And short Babylon 5 reunion movies.
Though these were all direct-to-DVD.

A 24 movie is coming. Kiefer Sutherland says filming should begin in December 2011/January 2012.

Yup... I have that one. I didn't include it because it was direct to DVD... so didn't air like they always used to.

On TV or theatrical? I heard it would be a theatrical release... though I could be wrong.

As TV only movie probably... They are probably just too costly to do with all the money always pay to the talents in redevance, something that wasn't really important before. Don't forget that most of the TV reunion movies were a way for a lot of "has-been" performers to get a job from their old stardom.

I remember hearing about the possibility of a Friends movie several years ago.  But theatrical movie..not for tv..so I guess not what you are thinking of.

There really haven't been any of those made for tv in ages.  I think the last one I saw was for Facts of Life.

I would have to check to be sure... but I believe the last one I have in my collection at least is the one I watched yesterday The Death of the Incredible Hulk. Which was made in 1990.

I saw Death of the Incredible Hulk when it aired...made me sad.  There was a Facts of Life one after that sometime...can't remember when...I'll have to look it up.  Maybe late 90s.  I saw it on tv maybe twice.  Jo wasn't in it.

From what I remember from it, some stuff was really changed from the end of the series and not addressed.  Like how Blair had bought Eastland..or at least sunk a bunch of money into it.  She was back to being kind of flighty and stuck up.  I think they had Jo being a cop off on some undercover assignment.  I thought she became a teacher.  Though it has been a while since I saw the last few seasons, maybe I've remembered wrong.
