My mother had a Video 2000. She switched to VHS when I was about 6.
I myself owned three VHS players. My first two (JVC and Panasonic) were the old ones from my mother when she bought a newer model. My third one I bought myself and I had it until I switched to DVD (I don't remember the model just now). My first DVD player was integrated into my PC (Athlon 800). Later I bought a standalone player (Cyberhome) which I still have (and it still works). I also own a portable player (7" screen), also from Cyberhome.
A year ago I bought a Samsung Blu-ray player.

What different video machines have you owned?
None. Unless you count both Xbox and my PC. I've never owned a standalone video player.

Don't trust Antares, I own this film and find it great ;)
But is it that surprising that he doesn't like something I like

Actually, I didn't say it was a bad film. I said it was the worst of the films I've seen in a theater. For the genre it represented, the film worked in my opinion.

I can honestly say that I've never had a bad film experience at the theater.

1. What was the first movie you paid your own way into seeing?

Hmmm....maybe Turner and Hooch.

2. What movie have you seen the most times counting only viewings in theaters?

Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl I think.

3. What was the last movie you saw more than once in a theatre?

Probably Up

4. What was the last movie you saw in a theater?

Alice in Wonderland

5. What was the first movie you bought on DVD?

The Mummy

6. What was the most number of movies you saw in a theater in one calendar year?

Without going and counting ticket stubs - yes I keep them   - I have no idea.  I'm guessing 40 or 50.

7. What, in your opinion, is the worst movie you ever saw at a theater?

Probably The Marine.  Though Cloverfield and 2012 are pretty bad too.

I've always hated the so-called "theater experience" - all I can remember from theater is the volume being too loud on crappy speakers, the image being washed out and the film scratched from too many bad handled showings and kids/teens talking/yelling and throwing popcorn...

plus I suffer from agoraphobia - so the theater is far from my ideal place to be.
You would had like to be in the theatre when Demon Knight was released here. I was alone in the theatre to watch it, no idea what was the other movies showned but it was the greatest esperience I ever had in a movie theatre ;D

8$ to "rent" a movie theatre alone is sure a very good deal

What different video machines have you owned?

The one VHS machine I owned lasted me until it was time to move on. An AKAI, I believe.

I owned several Laserdic Players, may have been three in total. Also the last one I owned had broken down and actually got lost in the "insolvency" shuffle of the repair shop :weep: the Laserdiscs I had were later given(!) to a fellow member of the German DVD Profiler forum; although I think MadAcid is a member here too. Some real rarities were among that two. While I am sad to no longer own them, I don't see the point, given that I cannot watch them myself. Even if, would I have shipped them to Taiwan...?

I think I owned a total of 5 DVD players. The first two were the protable kind, since I was "temporarily" in Taiwan. I later switched to a player/receiver combo when in Shanghai for a year. Sold it to a colleague when I left and bought the same in Taiwan. When I upgraded to a HD TV I also bought an upconverting DVD Player to go with it.

I own my second PS3 to play Blu-ray. Thze first one died and needed replacement by a PS3 Slim.

When I was mentioning my video machines, I should have mentioned my first Beta machine was probably the first model Sony Betamax ever released.  I got in in 1977 as I recall...it cost $1300 and weighed about 60 pounds.  This reminds me of one of the last VCRs I bought...the package was so light, I had to peak inside it before I took it to the checkout section to make sure there was actually a machine in it!  That first machine only had tapes that lasted an hour, by the way.  They did eventually come out with a longer tape that lasted 90 minutes and later models included slower speeds that made the tapes last longer.

I had two old VHS players, still have one. Then one crappy DVD player in between the VHS and what I have now. I currently have two blu-ray players, one Panasonic and the PS3. I also had a PS2 which played DVDs.

No BetaMaxes or V2000's
VHS - numerous - First VHS was a rental National Panasonic - at some point during the mid 80's I made sure that my VHS's would also play native NTSC initailly with an Akai and currently with a Panasonic, Forbidden Planet used to sell US Anime VHS and a friend at work got copies of US TV broadcasts from someone in the US - first blank tapes I remember buying were 2 hours long and cost £7.50 each - first pre-recorded I remember buying was either Alien or Space Cruiser, aka Space Cruiser Yamato, both cost approx £45.00.
Laserdisc - two both Pioneer - current Pioneer CLD-D925 - in fact I still have some discs that I haven't got on any other format - not that I play them now as the player isn't plumbed into the system
DVD - First Sony DVP-7700, then Denon DVD 2900, currently Pioneer DV-696 - all set for multi-region
HD-DVD - Toshiba HD EP35
Blu-ray - Sony BDP-S300 and PlayStation 3 40GB - loading times were horrendous on the BDP-S300 so I upgraded to a games console

I can just about remember my mum and dad's first VHS in around 1981, when blank tapes cost about £11! :o But, still got some of them and they play ok, so they were built to last. Had various machines down the years and still have my last one in good condition.

First DVD player, I built myself! Spare PC running the Creative DXr2 kit. Just a drive with a decoder card. Worked well and so easy to hack to multi-region, my first DVD was R1 because it was cheaper.

Before that though, I had briefly joined the Video CD revolution with a Philips CDi player. Yeah, that worked out well!

Ok, so I personally have had two VHS Playes and tv with one built in, my parents (and I) have had a few... my brothers favourite Thomas the Tank VHS was once taken away by a VHS repair man and never returned.

As for DVDs I have a Xbox (DVD compatible) Xbox 360 and Xbox 360 HD DVD Drive and a PS2

I have had 4 DVD players (standalone) I am the only person in my house that has a DVD player... my parents have never bought one neither has my brother (he uses his consoles)

I have a portable DVD player (8inch) and a Portable DVD player that also plays games consoles (10 inch)

...7 or 8 laptops and computers which were all compatible :p

1. What was the first movie you paid your own way into seeing?  I THINK "Casino Royale".

2. What movie have you seen the most times counting only viewings in theaters? I don't actually think I've gone to see any film more than twice in theaters, and there's alot (especially recently) that have that distinction.

3. What was the last movie you saw more than once in a theatre?  An Education

4. What was the last movie you saw in a theater?  An Education

5. What was the first movie you bought on DVD?  Men In Black

6. What was the most number of movies you saw in a theater in one calendar year?  Probably last year. Towards the end I felt like I had to see a movie WEEKLY to keep up. I can't give an exact number though.

7. What, in your opinion, is the worst movie you ever saw at a theater?  X-men Origins: Wolverine
