I'm going to Vegas in September.

Anyone been or got recommendations of things to see or do?

I went a couple of years ago as the last two nights on a tour of canyons, including the Grand Canyon, and was lucky to be on a tour, because each casino is doing something and they timed it so we got a taste of it all. Amazing place! Maddest I've ever seen. Anyway...

Bellagio Fountains and Treasure Island Pirate Show are essential and viewable from the street, along with the bonkers volcano at The Mirage. The Venetian is worth a visit inside because they have their own canal and it's always daylight! Screws you up a bit when you wander in late at night. Very clever lighting but utterly convincing. I stayed in the Stratosphere and they have a rollercoaster on their roof! I badly wanted to try it, but had a stinking cold.

I can also recommend the helicopter ride over the strip. It's pricey for how long it is, but strangely felt like the right amount of time and I was very glad I did it. Still, the helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon I'd had a few days earlier stands as one of the best things I've ever done, so if you have the opportunity to do a trip to the Canyon, I implore you to do so.

One thing our tour guide warned us about: don't be tempted to use your credit card in a slot machine. Yes, the Vegas slot machines take cards! And apparently, only authorise with your bank once, so they won't stop you spending past your limit. Waaaayyyy past... ???

I have been to Vegas multiple times, each time a very different experience as it changes so much so quickly.

So, just like Jon said, make sure you see everything on the strip, maybe catch a show in the evening; one of the magicians or a music show that tickles your fancy. Last time  went (10 years ago by now) I saw Siegfried & Roy (they are around no more, are they?) and David Lee Roth with a big band; "Jump" with a horn section sounded AWESOME!

Be reminded that the older strip section (with the famous arm-waving cowboy) is quite a bit away from today's popular section, but well worth a visit.

Grand Canyon: MUST. My jaw dropped at the sheer size of it.

Oh, yes! What's the name of the famous street? They've covered it now and run displays on the ceiling that look astonishing.

If you look on my Facebook, my profile picture is while at the Grand Canyon. Did you hear that they are seriously thinking of filling it in to create a dam for more power?  :( They've done it before with what is now Lake Powell. We went there too and it's an incredible place (they filmed Planet of the Apes there), but to think there's a canyon under there is just awful.

Yes, that covered street is what I was talking about. It's called Fremont Street. According the linked map it's somewhere between 1km and 1mi from the Strip.

Filling up the Grand Canyon opens up great possibilities, liek swimming across from the south to the north rim :training:

Being who I am it's sure that I would not loose my time or my money at the casino on a trip to Vegas. but a visit to the Club Paradise Gentlemen's Club, the Crazy Horse would be on my program and if you want to see another one with a cinema link you can go to the Cheetah's Gentlemen's Club where Showgirls was filmed. Probably a little detour to visit the Chicken Ranch or the Bunny Ranch would be on my program also.

Certainly not the idea of a trip to Vegas for most of the people :hmmmm:

My brother and his wife had made the helicopter tour to the Grand Canyon a couple years ago and they had liked it. Try to go watch "le Cirque du soleil" this is suppose to be great (if they do the Beatles inspired one go for it), not my kind of circus since no animals are involved but most people like it.

You see I can be usefull sometimes ;D

Hmmm, now that we're talking about it, I did take an airplane trip over the Grand Canyon one (no, not 30,000ft up in a 747). It was a plane where the wings were above the cabin, so we all could look down conveniently. The advantage is obviously, that more passengers can fit.

On a shopping note, which stores are good places to go for bargain priced DVDs and branded clothing?

TBH I didn't see too much, I arrived at 7pm but it had been a long day so I just wanted something to eat and to chill out. So the next day I played on the tables for a while and decided to go for a walk in the late afternoon, which I did.

I don't remember getting back to the hotel and for the next two days I was laid up with the effects of heat stroke and dehydration, the third day I was still feeling grotty so I went to the cinema that was attached to the casino and watched Gamer (). I did manage to go out a couple of times late at night(left the hotel after 9pm each time) went to The Stratosphere and did the three rides at the top of the tower also went to The Riviera and watched "The Crazy Girls" show, which was pretty darned entertaining.

I didn't get to The Grand Canyon or The Hoover Dam, but it gives me something to do next time.
