One Of My Cats Has Cancer
« on: July 01, 2009, 03:52:51 AM »
I don't know if anyone here ever discusses personal stuff but I thought I'd mention that I learned today that one of my cats has cancer  :(  It's not the cat in my profile photo...that black and white cat is Cindy.  Shadow is a long-haired silver & black Maine Coon.  I got both in 2001...Shadow just turned 9 last month.  At one point I had 3 pets...the third was a guinea pig named Cocoa that just showed up on my front lawn one morning.  Eventually, it will be down to just Cindy and me.  Obviously, I'm not up to reviewing anything today...

Never fun to loose an animal for some of us they are our child. Our familly cat who live at my father house (better for her since it's a relativelly isolated place) had lost a lot of her vitality (she don't hunt, play with us or really do much anymore). It was a surprise when I've seen the last time in april, sure she's old for a cat (certainly more than 15 years old), but the year before she was acting like a baby cat as she had always did. The inevitable day will certainly came soon for her :(

I hope that your cat doesn't suffer too much.

Thank you.  He seems to be doing okay for now.  I've no clue how much time he has left.

If you want to talk about it, then feel free to do so. We'll listen. And yes, we have discussed persoanl matters before.

Sad to hear about your sick cat. Hope things will go as pain-free and smoothly for the cat as possible.

We used to have a dog for 13-15 years (can't remember exactly right now) and she eventually died of some sort of cancer. At first the doctor could keep the tumor at bay by injecting something that hardened it up, but eventually it became too painful for her and we had the doctor relieve her form it. We buried her in the garden and my father had a rock with her name on it made.

I'm so sorry.  I know that is horrible to deal with. :(

When I was a kid, my mom had a cat that was older than me.  She got cancer when she was 18 or 19.  That was really hard on my mom.

My cat Smokey died about...4 years ago now I think it was.  I had her .....at least 10 years..maybe 12.  I can't remember for sure now.  She was 5 or 6 when I got her, so she was at least 15.  I think she had a stroke, but we don't know.  She started having trouble one night..too late to go to the vet.  During the night I think she had a few seizures and then she died before morning.  I still miss her...and I''ve just depressed myself.

I have 4 cats now...all of them spoiled.

We always had rabbits. The first lived to about 13 and just died of old age, but it's tough when they've been around so long and it's amazing the personalities they have. Poor old lad couldn't even get in and out of his hutch by himself as he got older...

I am sorry to hear this. I too will be losing a member of my family soon.

It is just a matter of days until I put the last of my 3 dogs down. My loveable Lucy (the swimless lab) will no longer be with us within the week. She can't hardly walk anymore. Get her off the carpet and her feet slide right out from under her. We've created a carpet trail throughout the house by borrowing every runner rug and bathroom rug we could find. It has progressed to the point where she falls when she tries to squat to go to the bathroom. It's time.

Right now we're looking at Friday or Saturday, I haven't called my vet to see when is better for her. Lucy is 14.

It is so sad when one's beloved pets gets sick or dies. I too have lost several of my family members and it does not get easier. We can only hope they live long and pain free lives but even then the end is so difficult. I have always wished that their life spans matched out owns so that we do not have to suffer the lose of our friends. I'm sorry to hear that you both are going through this.  :console:

Roger, I am sorry to hear that.

Our family also had two cats who both got cancer. One died at the age of 13. The other one at the age of 18. :weep:
I still miss them sometimes.

Thanks, everyone.  Shadow was my first cat...before that my last pet was a collie I owned in the 70s and 80s.  Of course, I will still have Cindy butr she's fat now...she could really pig out when there's no other cat to tussle with and work off some of that kitty poundage.  My collie Danny actually died in my arms one tough wintery day.
