DVD Profiler - Network DB Sharing
« on: May 26, 2010, 12:08:08 AM »
I'm currently trying out the database sharing feature in DVD Profiler. I like it so far. It's a bit slow, but that's probably due to my slow upload access coupled with the overhead for Hamachi, but at least, I don't have to always remember to sync the databases at home and at work.

But, I have a quick question.. What's the point of having a separate password for profile editing... when you can't actually edit profiles when connected through the network to your database? Or am I just missing something?

Because if not allowing profile edits through the network is actually as intended, then the feature is, to me, completely useless since the only reason I'd need it is for those times when I order and/or receive a few DVD at work and want to enter them right away..

That is something I would like to know as well. Even if I give full access to the connected clients, I 'm not able to change or add profiles. All I can do is f.i. set a "watched by" flag. The performance of the db access could be improved IMHO!
My config: the profiler (server) is on a Vista Home Premium system and the connected clients on a XP Home and Win7 system (via WLAN). I have 2mbit upload and between 24 and 32 mbit download in the wireless network, depending on the active clients connected to the router. I don't think that this is the bottleneck.

I may be completely wrong about this but I'm sure I read a post by Ken saying that profile editing over the network would be introduced along with the iphone version, why is why that stuff is in the program now even though it can't be used. Is that what you mean?
