Looks like we Bastardized the case over here... as it says Season 1 

Wow! I would so hate that! (Such short seasons [series]) I am used to 22 to 24 episodes per season (aka series)  Even the Mid-Season Replacement shows get about 13 episodes.

But that sounds about right for a sitcom here too on length. Ours normally runs for about 22 min. each.

Wow! 40 yrs and running? That is a long run!... I don't know about the soaps here... since I never watch them. But I would imagine we have some going on for about that long. I know it seems like they run forever.... Thank God for Cable and DVDs!

From what I've seen of US soap, the quality isn't great. Admittedly, I've seen very little, but I never hear them talked about on any entertainment sites. In the UK, the quality is pretty high and consistent. They're on every other day and rule the prime-time slots. They get booted for football and that's it. They must easily command the highest budgets. And it shows in audience figures; if the Christmas episodes don't pull more than 14 million, the channel gets worried. In comparison, a standard series gets about 6 million and imports (24, Friends, etc) about 3 million.

I think other stuff only gets a short series because it's invariably written by only one or two people. Whereas Friends and The Simpsons have rooms full of writers? I think both methods end up with a distinctive style, so I've never minded my favourite shows only running for six weeks. At the same time, I couldn't imagine only getting a handful of Buffy. Actually I imagine that a lot... 

You'll probably like My Hero. It's alright. But if you do like it, and sitcoms in general, branch out a little. I feel that the UK used to be King of Sitcoms and the odd gem still comes through. Spaced, Father Ted, Black Books, Vicar of Dibley (an acquired taste, but genius silliness!). Go back a few years and you find Fawlty Towers and Only Fools and Horses (they must be the two most popular of all time), Dad's Army, Porridge, Open All Hours, The Good Life. My personal fave was always Red Dwarf. Bang a few of those titles in YouTube and you'll find some cracking clips I'm sure.

That is one of the best. I hate canned laughter on sitcoms and that proved the benefit of a live audience. Chris Barrie as Rimmer walked in and couldn't deliver his classic line for ages because the audience was laughing so hard! And then he couldn't keep a straight face. So the other two had to extend their sequence! Absolute riot, brilliant stuff.
