Picket Fences: Season 1Eccentricity defines daily life in Rome, Wisconsin, where the Tin Man from The Wizard Of Oz is murdered, a student brings a severed hand to school for show-and-tell, and a woman runs over her husband with a steamroller pleading "not guilty by reason of menopause", Sheriff Jimmy Brock has seen it all. Indeed, behind the tidy picket fences of this quirky little town lie all the same problems and prejudices found in the big city, except in a small town everyone seems to know everyone else's business - or thinks they do!My Thoughts:I got this one as a complete Blind Buy. I never even heard of the show till it was announced. But when I found out that Holly Marie Combs was one of the co-stars of the series I knew I had to have it. Earlier this month I was able to get this in a Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale.... so how could I not grab it when I could get it for free!?!
This show is a weird situation for me. No show ever had such an effect on me. On one hand it is completely addictive... and I can not wait to watch the next episode. But on the other hand... This show seems too preachy for my taste... and how it handles some of the situations is completely beyond me... to the point of aggravation. But at the same time I am just loving every minute of it. It could be because this is a 15 year old series... but the way some of the situations was handled felt so... I don't know... over the top at the same time as being dated. But for some irrational reason I want more!
Unfortunately the only extra on this DVD is a featurette that lasts approx. 15 minutes where the series creator and the stars are interviewed and some clips shown. Pretty much a fluff piece... but was fun seeing what the characters looked like now. Especially the children from the show.
This series went on for four years. Needless to say I sit here hoping the second season gets released... and hopefully before too long. I don't know what more to say other then this is a series I love... but it is completely beyond me on why I love the show as much as I do!
