My Thoughts:
I've always enjoyed this film. The book has been a particular favorite of mine since childhood. It's a story of friendship, determination, loyalty and family devotion, and in that the film does not stint. If some great parts were left out (the Ojibwa sequence in the book comes to mind immediately), sacrifices must be made for film adaptation and the film is very faithful - only cutting, never changing. It is also purely an animal story, not a story of animals acting like humans. If it feels a little dated that's your short attention span talking. Like many older films, this one moves at a slower pace, so just sit back, relax and enjoy it. It's beautifully filmed, the animals are charming, and it's a perfect family film.

Bechdel Test: Fail

Overall: 4/5
