Tin Man (SciFi Channel mini series)
« on: December 31, 2007, 06:28:17 PM »
Has anyone seen that?

I'm usually less than thrilled by those SciFi channel mini series, and I don't pay much attention anymore what they are doing. Last year's notable exception of "The Lost Room" only appeared on my radar, because Peter Krause (Six Feet Under) starred as the lead. This year's "Tin Man" has Zooey Deschanel, an actress I greatly adore in her indie roles (All the Real Girls, Winter Passing), but not so much in movies like Elf or Hitchhiker's Guide.

So... is it any good?

Seen a couple of teaser trailers for it over here, was quite curious.

But after reading the below on IMDb. I'm not too keen on it now.

Quote
Dorothy Gale, a.k.a. DG, is all grown up and bored. She mopes around, works as a waitress, and goes to school part time. Before she knows it she's back in OZ (a.k.a. Outer Zone) and on the run from the evil sorceress Azkadellia and her storm troopers and clumsy bats. Along the way she falls in with some strange characters including the brainless Glitches, Raw, a cowardly and psychic lion-man hybrid, and, in the largest deviation, Wyatt Cain, a cowboy cop from Central City called a "tin man" because of his tin badge.

I already have bought and watched it, despite being warned by some not so friendly reviews.

I knew beforehand about the character changes, and it didn't bother me - in fact, I thought that they could be interesting. I hoped that the entire thing would at least qualify for the "mindless fun" category of entertainment.

It doesn't. There are a few interesting ideas, but they don't get any development. The mini series has neither heart nor brain, but one has to admire the courage of the creators for putting something so dull and lifeless on the screen. To be fair, there are some nice moments, but mostly it is the typical uninspired SciFi production that does drag on and on and goes nowhere.

On the upside: I finally have something to show if I get asked about the worst thing in my collection...

Almost off my wishlist now. My thought was, it stars Zooey Deschanel, how bad can it be? But I am also one of those people who enjoyed Eulogy.
Could be, that I will still buy it someday  :hmmmm:
