Does this drive you nuts?
« on: December 21, 2013, 12:54:13 PM »
This happens to me all the time. I'm watching something and suddenly I realize "I've seen him/her before - but where"?

I may even stop the DVD. Pick up my iPad. Check for other appearances in Profiler. If no luck, go to IMDb and check out the actor. Sometimes it ends with "Oh, of course!" and a headslap. Sometimes I find appearances in various movies and TV episodes, but nothing that stands out.

Most recently I had to stop Terror of the Zygons to check out Angus Lennie. "Oh yeah, he was in The Great Escape"! But the real problem is when I don't find anything obvious. I can go for days thinking "That face looks so familiar! Where the f*** have I seen that actor before?"

Does this ever happen to any of you?

All. The. Time.

I just watched the latest episode of Person of Interest and there was this actress playing the wife of Saul Rubinek's character (him I recognized at once).

But her? I knew I just saw her recently but it that moment I just could not place her. And then I, too, had my of course moment.

From Person of Interest:

From the James Spader / Alan Shore introducing episode of The Practice:

It also happens a lot to me. The last time with the Doctor Who episode "The Girl in the Fireplace". I knew I know the actress playing the adult version of the girl in the title. But I just couldn't remember from where, until I looked her up. She starred in the great but short-lived series "Moonlight" and she was in "Outlander".

Camryn Manheim played a great understated role in An Unfinished Life and good piece in a great episode of Criminal Minds.  I really like her performances .. strong, powerful women.
Thank you

Her episode of Criminal Minds was rather freaky.

That happens to me too...and it will drive me nuts until I figure out who the heck they are.

Happens quite frequently to me as well. Usually the iPad is nearby and, with the DVD in Pause, the problem solved in a few moments.

Yeah, I always keep my iPad close, but it's when the problem isn't solved that I go nuts. You know, when you go "Oh, she was in an episode of Bones. No, she's too familiar for it to be just a guest spot. It's either a recurring role in a show or an important role in a feature film" And you go through all her credits on IMDb and nothing stands out.

Or when you are at a movie theater...can't really whip out a tablet or computer to look it up then.  It will bug me until I get home and look it up...unless I manage to figure it out myself before then.

I just rewatched the Friends episode 7x04 The One With Rachel's Assistant because I was discussing Penny's lack of development on The Big Bang Theory on another site (german).

Anyway I came across this actor that looked familiar. He played Terry, a casting director for Days of Our Lives, a show where Joey used to play Dr. Drake Ramoray and now was supposed to audition for the role of his twin brother Stryker Ramoray.

So I looked the guy up. Nothing special stood out, he's just the kind of actor that appears just about everywhere for a guest role.

But what I did find ironic is that he had a guest stint of 4 episodes in 2012 - on the real Days of Our Lives. ;)
