I think I said it earlier this thread but any fans of UK comedy needs Early Doors. One of the best comedies ever and you can get both series seperately from Amazon for £6.48 (or together for £6.99 ???)

You did and it was a damn shame you were ignored, because this was a great show.

Matthias, I know you said earlier you don't like sitcoms as such, and to be fair I would have never pointed you towards Spaced, but it's worth your while looking up a couple of clips of things like Early Doors.

A lot of sitcoms are "gags first, characters second". Our TV can be very good at switching that around so stories concentrate on the people in more realistic, identifiable situations. The comedy comes from observational, real life stuff and can be tinged with melancholy.

Again, it isn't one you'd like, but Only Fools And Horses lasted as long as it did, because Del and Rodney became icons because viewers saw something of themselves there. It played for laughs, but it never had to try. I think a lot of sitcoms are weaker simple because they're trying too hard.

I see people I know in every character in Early Doors ad you're right, it is one that puts the characters first. It finishes beautifully aswell, quite possibly the best ending to any sitcom.

You can see the first part of episode 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFMGckleghw

I am shocked that i have not seen anyone post this UK show before, this is my favourite one and i would defiantly recommend it to anyone looking for a good UK comedy this show is "The Smoking Room" every episode is funnier than the last also one of the first major roles of Robert Webb star of another amazingly funny TV show that no one has mentioned (I think) "Peep Show" which the camera sees through the eyes of the characters and you can hear there thoughts.
