Here's a bit of film trivia for you...
Steve McQueen played the title character in
Bullitt, and apparently based him on
Dave Toschi, an SFPD Inspector.
Inspector Toschi was the chief investigator of the Zodiac murders.
Dirty Harry, possibly inspired somewhat by
Bullitt, presented a fictional case inspired by the Zodiac murders.
Dave Toschi was played by Mark Ruffalo in
Zodiac, from David Fincher.
How has poor Inspector Toschi stayed sane?
First he watches
Bullitt, featuring a guy based on him. Then he goes to the cinema and sees
Dirty Harry, who is based on the guy that was based on him, investigating a serial killer based on the serial killer he investigated. Now he sees
Zodiac... [deep breath] featuring a guy playing him, investigating the Zodiac murders and in one scene, sees the guy playing him go to the cinema to see another guy playing a guy based on a guy that was based on him investigating a serial killer based on the serial killer he's investigating in the film about the serial killer he investigated! And... breathe.
I haven't thought of this I should say. A friend at work saw it somewhere on the Internet, but I'm not sure where. In any case, it amused me!
Toschi must be absolutely crackers by now. Probably stays in his office whispering to himself about how
all films are basically about
him. He probably even thinks he's Spartacus...
