FWIW: I have 2 different blu ray players (1x Samsung BD-P 1580, 1x LG BD 560). They are both connected via HDMI to my HD-ready TV and in parallel via RCA connector (red, white and yellow) to a standard tube TV (in another room). This works perfectly, but the benefits of high def is only available on the HD TV.

Since you have always too much new stuff and old stuff gets only rewatched occasionally, I'd say every additional dollar spent for Bu-ray over DVD is a wafted dollar. However, since Kathy, among others, keeps rporting sometimes that Blu is actually cheaper than DVD, it might be smart to have the option avaiable... :hmmmm:

So, I almost changed my mind and now would recommend a player purchase even without new TV. You'd at least have the option to get Blu whenever cheaper or when it's a movie you particularly like.

Well thanks to THIS... looks like my next DVD Player will have to be a Blu-Ray... despite not having an HDTV.

Look for special offers:
Amazon Germany for example is currently selling an LG player including 10 Blus for € 197,-. Offers like this can be found all the time.

Thanks... I just have to be sure that the back of the Blu-Ray player has the RCA component outputs... so it can hook to my old TV.
