Reboot this
« on: February 27, 2010, 10:07:31 AM »
I was bored at work and started thinking about how awesome Neil Patrick Harris is in How I Met Your Mother and the 2 Harold & Kumar films.
Which led me to think about what I'd like to see him in the future. Bizarrely, the first thing that came into my mind was that I'd like to see him in a live action version of the Gerry Anderson series - Stingray(wiki).

I picture him in the role as Phones. However unlike the original I don't see the character as the comic relief of the show, yes some humour would be there but I see him as a more experienced and seasoned character that is to an extent world weary and hardened.

This of course made me start thinking of who to cast in the other roles and TBH I struggled.

Captain Troy Tempest

Initial thought was for James Marsters, but he's too old to my mind for this part - needs to be someone mid-late 20's/early 30's.

Commander Sam Shore
Patrick Stewart? seemed a little too much of a cliche and cop out.
David Jason? but then I the thought of his voice made me start picturing Count Duckula.
James Morrison? too similar to his role in Space: Above & Beyond
R Lee Ermey? First alternate.

But the one that just struck me as the right choice was Anthony Stewart Head.

Lieutenant Atlanta Shore
Alexis Dziena - attractive and a decent actress.

Marina
Don't know who she is, but Gawd damn she's hot :drooling:
I'd go less like the Bridget Bardot inspired original and more for this type of concept(scroll down to the underwater bits).

King Titan
Didn't really give this any thought at all, so no suggestion
<edit>How about Jean Reno?

Stingray theme

Would like it if Apollo440 or Linkin Park to remix the theme tune like they did for LiS

Stylistically I see this as a meeting of Caprica and Sanctuary.
I love the 50/60's feel of the costumes and sets of Caprica. The CGi of Sanctuary would be the way to go as this would keep costs down a fair bit and less limiting.

 :stars:

I did think of Monica Bellucci( :drooling: :drooling: :drooling: :drooling:) as Atlanta, but I quickly dismissed her from that role but it did get me to thinking as to what I would like to see her in (apart from my company) which made me think of another 60's series that has got interesting possibilities if it was brought up to date:
The Champions

I've never heard of this series, sorry. When I think of Stingray I think of a guy who comes, helps and asks for a favour in return....

Karsten, are you saying you grew up without the wonderful shows of Gerry Anderson? I'm sure that would be considered cruelty!

I remember watching the Thunderbirds shows, although I don't remember any content. Bought the 2-movie collection once to refresh my memory. Stingray I cannot recalll whether we had that on TV or not.

I thought the live action remake of Thunderbirds was awesome.

That looks really bad, I don't think that it's aged well.

I grew up watching both Thunderbirds and the Lost in Space series. These two shows were a large part of what I watched between ages 9-12. I still have a toy of the Lost in Space robot sitting on my desk. I must say though, I turned on the TV early the other morning to see Thunderbirds and actually found the appearance of the puppets unnerving for some reason. I find this strange since as a kid I watched almost every episode and loved it.

It was a child of its time. You know, lone rider comes to town, helps against bad people and rides off into the sunset. This time he didn't have a Trans-Am or a Swiss Army knife but a '65 Stingray.
