Missing Cat
« on: May 29, 2011, 07:09:15 AM »
One of my cats is missing.  She didn't show up for treats this evening like she normally does.  She was here when I fed them, but I can't remember exactly what time that was.  We looked all over the house and can't find her.  I've looked around several times...I've looked under beds, couches, behind furniture, in closets, on top of things...even in drawers and cabinets.  I'm freaking out a bit here and getting more and more worried...and more and more convinced that she got outside somehow and we'll never see her again.  She comes when called, and she isn't coming.  She has gone out on the screened in porch in the past, but she hasn't tried to get off of it before.  I've looked around outside too..I'm just back in from walking around the house again, this time with a flashlight.  She's been off napping somewhere before where we couldn't really spot her, but she always showed up soon after we'd start looking.  It has been probably 3.5 hours since she didn't show up for treats.  She hasn't stayed hidden this long when we've been looking for her before.  I really don't know where she could be.

I'm really getting more convinced that went out on the screened in porch and then ran off it for some reason.  She's a spoiled house cat..she can't survive outside.

So...I'm rather freaked out right now..and worried.

I hope she'll be back soon.

I don't think being a house cat will take her ability to find her way back home, that is natural. Sure, she can't get her own food, but hunger should bring her back home, again, hopefully soon.

That's true...I'm just more worried about the wild animals around here...we've seen foxes not far from here before.  :(  So I'm freaking myself out a bit.  I just keep hoping she's going to come strolling out of some hidey hole in the house that we didn't find..but so far she hasn't.

I know first hand that you can search your house and not find a cat if they are hiding. Even if she did get out I'm sure she is close by and will be home soon. It's hard not to worry though.

That's true! It's unbelievable where cats can hide. I have been searching my cats very often and suddenly they stand right behind me.  ???

Marie, I hope your cat comes home very soon. Don't worry too much!

I just found her.   :yahoo:
She didn't get out after all.  She was under the dresser in my room...normally the bedroom door is open, back up against the one end of it...I have some other stuff in front of it right now, and there is another piece of furniture up against the other end, so none of them get in under there..they normally can't get under it.  Yesterday, a relative was over for a while, so I had the door almost closed, leaving that one end open as a way for her to get under it.  I wasn't sleeping that great anyway..a few hours ago I heard a meow and was sure it was her.  It was a different sort of meow..almost like the meow of a cat that is mad.  I looked around some, but couldn't see any cat, let alone her.  Just a little while ago, something woke me up and then I heard a noise.  It took me a minute to recognize that it was her beating on the bottom of the door, trying to get out.  She seemed very happy when I moved the door and she came out.  That was really the only place I hadn't looked..it didn't occur to me to look there because none of them have gotten under it before...because normally they can't.

I'm just glad she was in the house and that I found her.  Now I feel better. And maybe I can sleep better now.

I belong to several e-mail lists devoted to cats and it seems cats turn up missing fairly often.  One of my best online friends has told us her cat Tabitha disappeared and she's been gone something like 2-3 weeks now, so obviously I worry that she'll never see her again.  My own cat Cindy (the one in my photo) took off a few times as well but luckily always came back.  I'm glad yours was just playing with you...you are her pet, after all.  :P

I know cats will get in odd places to nap.  Jenna has just be better about coming out sooner in the past...which is why I started worrying so much.  And there had been a few times when the door on the screened in porch was held open while carrying some stuff out..so it could have been possible for her to run out.  I'm just glad she didn't.  I was able to sleep after I found her..hadn't been sleeping too well before that and was having weird dreams too.
