The synopsis reads like something I have seen before

A futuristic laboratory assigns different tasks to its various residents, who then have their memories erased upon the completion of their assignments.

Paycheck anyone...? Not something I'd expect from Whedon. Then again, the similarity may be on purpose.

As soon as you mention anything like this (memory or the lack of and... erm... thingy, er, I can't remember... ), it's bound to have links with Philip K. Dick's work in all sorts of ways. I would guess that Dollhouse will be much more substantial than Paycheck though...
