The Conjuring
Year of Release: 2013
Directed By: James Wan
Starring: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Lili Taylor, Ron Livingston
Genre: Horror

Overview:
Based on true events, The Conjuring tells the thrilling story of ghost hunters Lorraine and Ed Warren (Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson), who help a family terrorized by an evil spirit in their mysterious farmhouse.

My Thoughts:
This was a really, really well done horror film.  It has everything I like in a horror movie - atmosphere, mood, a wonderfully realized feeling of dread with well-fleshed out evil.  A Ravenloft DM could make a great set piece out of this film.  It has a strong script and good performances from all the actors involved, and some solid jump scare moments that aren't expected.  There's no gore, no nudity, and no foul language, but this still deserves its R rating - and recommended for any fans of old school horror films.  Great movie.

Bechdel Test:  Pass

Overall: 4/5
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.
