The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones from the book series
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare was a very good take on the first book. There were of course some bits not in the book .. or changed but the flavor was there (which is what I look for).
The actors:
- Lily Collins
- Jamie Campbell Bower
- Robert Sheehan
- Kevin Zegers
- Lena Headey
- Kevin Durand
- Aidan Turner
- Jemima West
- Godfrey Gao
- C. C. H. Pounder
- Jared Harris
- Jonathan Rhys Meyers
were mainly new to me (with the exception of C. C. H. Pounder, Kevin Durand and Jonathan Rhys Meyers) and all were very good in their roles.
The visuals are very very good (lots of cgi so take that into consideration). The story does take a bit to get into as there are some complexities. If there is a weak point it is the music. Not that the majority of the music isn't very good ... or taken separately the songs would be good ... but to my taste many of the songs gave the film a feeling of something developed for 'The CW' (tv network). It gave it a feeling of 'Roswell' or any other *teen angst* driven show.
Having said that I will be seeing it again and i really hope they do the other 2 books. It wont be a phenom like "Twilight" but to my taste the books and film are a little better.
