From what I've heard, they will still deliver packages on Saturday, just not letters and catalogs. I'm also hearing some in Congress saying that they can't legally do that, that he is misinterpretting the law. We shall see what happens.

Yeah... it is supposed to be first class mail only. So even letters and such that are done by express mail will still come on Saturdays as well. At least that is the way I heard it on the news yesterday. And at least at that time it wasn't a sure thing yet. But even if it does happen... it's OK by me. :)

From what I've seen you pay only 0,46$ for a stamp... here it's 0,63 $. But I've no problem to pay for the service, the postal system is fast and reliable so you must adjust the price when everything else got up to keep a good standard.

Doesn't part of the money spent on stamps in Canada go toward health care?
I have a collection.
It can be found here.
No need to check it often.
I update it only twice a year!

No...

Healthcare is a provincial competence and the postal service is a federal one. The federal money the province got for their healthcare systems come from the federal taxes we pay.

I bought a couple of hundred first class forever stamps a while ago - I think they cost around 45 cents each. They never expire and can be used no matter how much the price goes up.

I believe you can still buy them at the post office.

I found out from a friend that sent me a package here recently that while rates went up a bit... they made tracking numbers standard with the price to send the package (no longer costing extra for tracking numbers). But when trying to track said package it seemed it was never scanned at any stop... it ended up arriving... never showing up on the tracking.  ::)

It depends on the weight of the package. I recently sent something and it did cost extra - only 90 cents - but you could track the package.

That might be because the parcel-sorting by US-Mail is still mostly man-powered. Automated sorting systems (like DHL has in Europe) do the scanning On-the-fly.

Thanks for the extra info Kathy... this package was just a small one.
