Your top 5 television shows of all time?
« on: December 07, 2012, 06:22:35 PM »
As title...

For me, in reverse order:

5) Scrubs - 8 great seasons, 1 mediocre. Loved the rapore between the cast especially Turk and JD.

4) Roswell - Okay okay, guilty pleasure this one. I know it's not great but I loved every minute of Roswell and rewatch all three seasons as often as I can.

3) Tru Calling - Doomed before it's time. Cracking stuff from Eliza Dushku and when Jason Priestley got thrown into the mix i just got even better.

2) Early Doors - Best comedy ever made. All 12 episodes of this UK comedy made me cry with laughter and I can't recommend it enough because not many folks have heard of it.

1) The Shield - Without a doubt my favourite show ever. Not a duff episode, awesome roles for Forest Whitaker and Glenn Close and a very satisfying ending.

I'm not a big TV serie watcher and all the series I follow are or were in french (our TV industry is really a good one), so don't expect to recognize any of them

La petite vie,
4 et demi...,
Minuit, le soir,
Un gars, une fille
Lance et compte (original serie). A little bit dated but 26 years ago it was a major revolution for us.

and because I had to watched that one in reruns every summer for almost 20 years

Symphorien

PS : the titles aren't in a particular order

In no particular order

Babylon 5 - The first show I watched that had a continuous story arc. The special effects were already outdated back then. But the story still holds up and tells a fascinating tale from many perspectives.
"Let me pass on to you the one thing I've learned about this place: No one here is exactly what he appears. Not Mollari, not Delenn, not Sinclair .. and not me."

Friends - Many comedy shows age rapidly (I couldn't bring myself to watch more than a disc of Married ... with Children) but I can watch Friends episodes time and time again.
"We were on a break!"

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - This isn't actually a show about a young girl who slays vampires. This is about a show about a young woman and her friends growing up.
"My life happens to, on occasion, suck beyond the telling of it."

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - in my eyes the best and most realistic of all the Star Trek shows. There are general similarities to Babylon 5 but it holds up on his own.
"Rule of Acquisition Number 286: When Morn leaves, it's all over."

Smallville - It's teenage drama. It's often badly written. But I just love it. For the past months I got up at 6am every Saturday morning just so that I could participate in a re-watch marathon with other American watchers (for them it's 9pm - 12am on a Friday night). Last week we had 8x01 and 8x02, tomorrow (from my POV) we watch 8x03 and 8x04.
"The Lex Luthor that I knew disappeared years ago. It's been a long time since we were friends."

I haven't seen any of DJ's either except for Superman. I only watched a few episodes of that and couldn't get into it. I'll try again some day.

I know that we are only supposed to list 5...but this is a new list! And I've always been a troublemaker.  :tease:

Maude - a spin off from All in the Family - and one of my favorites. The problem is only season 1 is on DVD and I wish they would put out the whole series.

Another show I've been watching on Antenna TV is Father Knows Best. I've been very impressed with some of the story lines - way ahead of its time. I don't know if it belongs on this list because I've only seen a few dozen episodes.

Taxi - I haven't watched this since it first aired. I recently picked up the DVDs and I hope it stands up to my memories.

Seinfeld is good but I think I like Curb Your Enthusiasm even better.

The Dick Van Dyke Show - This show and The Jackie Gleason Show were must see TV in my family when I was young.

There's a bunch of medical shows I've always liked ER, Grey's Anatomy, St. Elsewhere, Chicago Hope and the like. But, I can't say they are my favorite of all time.

I would have had a slightly different list, but Antares post reminded me that Nature is a TV show too.

1.  Star Trek
2.  Nature
3.  Shin Seiki Evangelion
4.  Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon
5.  Star Trek:  Deep Space Nine

Super Runner Up:
The Twilight Zone (original)

Honorable Mentions:
Star Trek: The Next Generation, Monty Python's Flying Circus, G.I. Joe, Twin Peaks

This is a very hard choice. In no particular order, the following series had me really drawn in (meaning I could watch it again and again without getting tired of it) at one point or another:

- Star Trek TNG/DS9/VOY
- Buffy
- Lois & Clark
- The Office (US)
- Friends

Honorable mention:
- Cheers
- Babylon 5

Favorite anime series:
- Azumanga Daioh
- Full Metal Panic

As it pops into my head right now:

The Walking Dead
South Park
Soap (thanks for the reminder Kathy; Soap was absolutely hilarious, too bad they couldn't end it properly)
Third Rock from the Sun
Monty Python's Flying Circus

I generally prefer my TV to be easily consumable...

That means you enjoy the trend of flatscreen TVs? I imagine it's much easer to find a starting point for your nibbles than with the old cubic tube TVs.  :tease:

OK let's see..

Battlestar Galactica
Firefly
Doctor Who
Smallville
Lost

These are pretty much the series where whenver I finish watching them, I have the urge to start over right there on the spot because I have that it's over.
